Irish hoteliers and others are back blaming the bad weather for their fall in custom, and not their own prices or charges.
What are your own experiences of excessive prices being charged in Ireland relative to the rest of the EU?
It's senseless debating the value of an Irish vacation vs abroad, it costs an absolute fortune to vacation in Ireland and the weather is **** vs abroad where for the same price you can stay twice as long, enjoy nice food and drink and the beach/pool.
Havnt vacationed in Ireland since 2015 and it pissed for 2 weeks, cost a fortune, everyone stressed sitting indoors for 2 weeks. Never again.
Would vacation here if a friend had a free gaff but other than that....
I wish the thread title could be changed to include ........HOSTELS.
I see a hostel bed in a 12 bed dorm in Dublin on a random Saturday in OCTOBER is E139!
Who would be mental enough to come to Ireland?
Oh you mean you can stay in Parknasilla but it's not Parknasilla it's Woodland Villas which are near Parknasilla.
Rightly so in fairness though, a fiver is nothing these days.
I live in a small town in Leinster and there's no way you'd get a sandwich for a fiver here.
You went a step too far now. Spain has some lovely food, I love the meats etc. But the beer is f**king awful stuff.
If I am out and want to enjoy a beer in what you describe is a nice setting, pay the fecking 3 euro extra and get something nice 😂
I was paying €2 for a 500ml bottle of Heineken there in May.
Yes, in the Woodland Villas you can book now. You get full access to the hotel spa etc
That's fine - maybe I'm old fashioned. If you'll excuse the cliche, patriotism is what you do for your country, not what your country can do for you.
Spend your money here, support Irish businesses and products - that contributes both in terms of local employment and taxes to the state. We have a big and growing public service wage bill, we have major infrastructural developments to fund, housing to beat the band and lots of commitments to those arriving here. Who is going to fund all these, if not Irish citizens?
But of course, people are free to leave and spend their dosh in other states. It's just not patriotic though in my book.
Both will spam you as well, I’m booking now and most hotels of direct offer discount to join their news letter etc.
As I said with pigs back you can opt out or even if they email you at the bottom of mail you click and unsubscribe . Done
same with hotel and airline you booked direct with
It did the job just perfectly in 36 degree heat.
Terrible beer.
Look at Berlin or Florence.
No. You put up a link to pigsback. A discount site. That spam your emails all day
I book direct with airlines and usually find it cheaper to book direct with hotels.
It was local Spanish beer, Mahou and Cruzcampo mainly and infinitely better than the likes of Heineken and Coors.
No, in a cafe.
unless you are drinking the local Spainish beer its more than 2 euro based on last time I was in Spain. Look for anything decent and you are closer to the 5 euro.
I would go into a "sh*t hole pub" anyway. Normally I go into the nice ones in Ireland or overseas.
With all due respect, **** that! I will spend my money in places where i don't get ripped off. I was drinking beautiful pints beside a beach last week for €2, why in gods name would I go and sit in a **** hole pub and pay over €5 for a worse pint?
no
Most have option to opt in/out of mailing
Plus the website you bought the Spain holiday or travel agent will have the same
F**k them, and I honestly mean that.
Price of hotels is atrocious, and it's not like they're not getting a pretty penny from the government for homeless and asylum seekers.
Im looking for a hotel for a night in Meath next week. Cheapest is 160 euro.
So now we have to sign up to discount websites that spam our inboxes a few times a day to find decent prices?
FFS.
Parknasilla for 81 per person per night in August?
Maybe back in the 70's.
Rude to spit. Especially tea.
I have no idea how anyone can't find a hotel in Ireland for a midweek break for less than 500 euro.
We have loads of websites offering deals for midweek and weekend. Just one below. But you can find plenty others offerings deals all year round.
https://www.pigsback.com/en-ie/browse/short-breaks/ireland
I spend more then enough in Ireland thanks.
But that course of action is not very patriotic? Most of the taxes and spend went into the Spanish economy. When we need people to spend in Ireland in order to contribute to the Irish economy and taxes. We need this spend to help pay for public services & wages and of course, to help support all our other new committments.
Genuinely spat my tea out when I read that comment.
Into Mr Chips for the fine dining. Activities include an afternoon at the local handball alley. You never know - you might meet Eddie Durkan or Buzz.
Ireland had the highest prices in the EU 27 in 2021 at 143.8 per cent of the EU average, with Denmark and Luxembourg our closest competitors for that unwanted title.
In case there was any doubt
Are you talking about a takeaway sandwich from a Spar shop?
The hotel and Vintners industry are greedy shiteawks trying to recoup money from Covid times and more.
We would normally have a holiday here in the summer but have elected to forgo it.
Can't justify the stupid gouging going on. And then they are constantly in the media with the poor me stories.
And don't worry, I've plenty of money but I'm smart enough to know when I'm getting screwed. The same as many others so be careful not to bite the hands that feed you. People are wising up and turning away from supporting hospitality in their droves.
