May not be heavy enough to set off anti-tank mines, I'd guess it's a case of needs must.
It looks like an old BMP or something. Might be in absolute disrepair and capable of nothing else. I doubt they'd be sending in a brand new Leopard or Bradley.
Was just thinking it could be a simple way to bypass the anti-tank ditches: get a load of old bangers or even dumper trucks full of sand and cement, drop bricks on the accelerators and use them to fill in the ditch enough for tanks to be able to cross it...
they will have to do something to get across those ditches. they look wide and deep.
At least they now have a route to the ditch that they know is not mined.
Seriously?
could be a captured russian tank
Would such an action be as bad as russian soldiers actions in the Ukraine ? I would argue no. It would be fitting that the people that are covering this land in mines then have to walk it. See the consequences of their actions.
What would russia ? Say ? “That’s not fair, those mines are meant to kill Ukrainians not russians”
Wasn't there a Danish movie about using Nazi POWs to do the same after the war.
I get what you are saying but I think it would be a war crime, best to leave those to the Russians.
Think it was German teenage boys, horrific it was
there was a scene in this recent movie where Nazis force Nazis to walk across a minefield… great movie
If they break through the lines of defense what do they do, try to encircle the Russians or just keep going?
Yeap western support would be immediately cut off….
The purpose of minefields, anti-tank ditches and obstacles is not to stop tanks, it's to slow them enough to mount a response.
So if Ukraine were to try "sending bangers" across to fill in ditches, that action in itself lets Russia know that an attack is coming. It gives them time to get men, anti-tank weapons, attack helicopters etc to that location.
Russia's defensive line is not evenly and continously manned. It's too long for that, they don't have enough men. It's partially manned and they rely on spotters and drones etc to put where men are needed most.

The vehicle in the video above which trundled into the ditch was reported to have 3 dead inside. The crew were killed some time prior and it just kept going in a straight line.
It's actually pretty sad to see a once respected journalist slip so far. Hersh's "anonymous source" for his Bin Laden conspiracy was likely a Pakistani ISI agent spinning him yarns and now his "anonymous US official" appears to be a Russian agent feeding him similar nonsense.
You proposed it, and now see it would politically be a bad idea. It’s pretty bad morally, too.
To guard against that, the Ukrainians could just do similar to what the Allies did in WW2 before D-Day - send bangers to test several sectors, including plenty where they have no intention of attacking.
Exactly the kind of propaganda the Russians would love. Also a clear and obvious war crime.
If your argument for a course of action is it is "not as bad as russian soldier actions" then you have lost.
If the best thing you can say is that it isn't as bad as what Russia does you know it is horrifically immoral.
They're full of propaganda and lies already, make no difference at all.
The moral imperative of a defensive force trying to retake its country from a villainous invader is somewhat eradicated the moment you start using PoWs as canaries across mine fields.
It shouldn't even need saying.
Unfortunately Russia have surveillance satellites. Not great ones and not a lot of them. But they have a capability nonetheless. They've launched a few new ones recently too.
So it's harder to pull off ruses like this compared to WWII.
I would love nothing more to see these murdering rapist who are covering the land in mines have to then walk it accompanied to curb your in enthusiasm music, i think karma wise it would put things in balance.
I’m curious about this too, could become a bottleneck quickly.
Well no the moral imperative would be doing something "bad" to achieve something "greater".
It would be the literal definition of it.
I'm not advocating they should march POWs across minefields, but Ukraine's moral obligations were well watered down when the first stories of mass rape and executions surfaced.
As far as I am concerned Purge rules until the last Russian leaves.
Why not . Give them a shovel and a metal doctor and they will be fine
Are you able to pick out the murdering rapists from the others, or are they all equally guilty by association?
You can’t beat a bit of genocide.
Well it’s either the UKr remove them or the Ru remove them as long as they are supplied with. A helmets, shovels and metal detectors. The Ru have a much better chance of surviving. Completely intact because they know where the mines are
Sorry then your going down slippery slope. What then you have Ukrainians captured that Russians doing exactly same thing. Then feck it after a while both sides be like sure what's the point taking prisoners, let's just shot them.
