The king is dead, long live the king.
Only 102 days to lights out for 2023..
I just had to use a VPN to sign-up and pay. After this no VPN necessary if the account is from EU, thanks to EU regulations. Working right now as intended.
Does it let you watch all sessions live? I'd have no probably paying to watch them live on an app or web browser (not via Sky ofc).
Yes live, via phone, mibox or chromecast. Like I understand that SKY wants to crap down on that, 80 Euros annual vs. 1000 Euro Sky.
Exactly. I don't mind paying Sky for the broadband but the TV is robbery esp if you're only interested in the F1 from them.
That will be a right pain if it goes. Getting the Pro version was a pain to begin with. I had tried signing through a vpn in Spain and possibly France and revolut but ended up being in Netherlands signing up through the app on the phone using google pay so it just comes out monthly. It works fine. I have to pretend I'm away on holidays to watch live but €8.50 is a lot better than €50 a month for Sky tv (that I don't need with the Saorview and FreeSat) and Sky Sports.
Just had a look on the phone and the vpn I use and the F1TV app are still letting me see the full highlights rather than just the extended and I can see the pre weekend warmup show live which I couldn't on the browser without a vpn so maybe it'll be alright for a bit.
Fwiw it's very easy to pick up a Sky Sports sub on NowTV for about 20 quid a month. Obviously a lot more expensive than F1TV, bun you get PL games and everything else that goes with Sky Sports (nfl/golf/etc).
Does now tv have play/pause and catch up? Or is it live only?
Only live unfortunately.
I have other sources. I'd take a legit source if i did have catch up and play/pause.
It does have after event replays available but they are woeful in actually putting them up. You might be waiting until Tuesday to see the full race again.
My folks have Skyf1 so I’m able to watch at reasonable times while im home visiting. F1TV works so well for me in Canada though, I’d be lost without it.
Having to listen to David Croft would be devastating. I really enjoy the F1TV coverage and it will be a real shame if this is permanent.
I used to watch it on "other sources" myself but can't go without the HD. When I was younger I didn't mind..
Oh my other sources has decent HD, but the lack of catch up is the one clincher that would make me consider a change.
"Other sources" do UHD these days thankfully, or so I heard, allegedly. 😂
My compromise is although I'm forking for the now TV package, I use VPN to access BBC Radio coverage, sync it up and listen to their coverage over the Sky pictures.
I'm going to need a PM Andrew 😂 I've had 2 different "devices" and have seen plenty of mates sources too - never seen a decent, consistent HD stream. If there is it would be a game changer.
Edit: my current device has SD, HD and UHD and i'd say the best one is 480p at a push.. 😖
I also know of someone who has seen fantastic HD on a source which may or may not be described as “other” #justsayin
Big news.
Massive news indeed, all change at Alpine again.
Otmar was just on Beyond the Grid this week and Tom had to disclaim that the interview was conducted before Rossi left.
Things move fast. Wonder if Fred Vassuer needs to watch his back.
EDIT Andrew Benson adding that Pat Fry is also departing.
And moving to Williams
Not sad to see Otmar gone tbh, never came across as a likeable chap. Alpine seem in a bit of a mess the last while too. I'd say Vassuer is safe enough this year and next.
In other news - tyre blanket ban that was supposed to be coming into force next year has been postponed pending further testing.
I don't really get they tyre blanket ban. I'd love to see them skid around on cold tyres for a few laps, but realistically, it just adds to the time loss for a pitstop and would mean more teams would try to save tyres to avoid a stop.
Good idea in principle but I doubt it would really make things better
It is. I never expected Otmar to be given the axe. I wasn't surprised at Rossi's departure though.
If results don't improve from now on, I wouldn't be surprised if the team will be put up for sale, and with Michael Andretti wanting into F1, will buy it.
Binotto to Alpine......
Permane was there for 34 years...
That's a long time at Enstone.
A Permane-nt fixture by all accounts
Alpine are not making the gains expected.
I never can work out whether Otmar is great at what he does or is a buffer.
