Let's have a thread about Ireland rather than America for a change. Founded in November 2016, the National Party was founded by Justin Barrett and his old friend James Reynolds. The two men had been involved in pro-life activism as teenagers and Barrett got a taste of the media spotlight during his No campaign to the Nice Treaty referendum in the early 2000s.

The National Party revolves around 9 core principles which makes it unique among Irish political parties in that it is ideologically based rather than following the populist trend of the day. The main points of NP ideology are: support for a 32 county Ireland, against mass immigration and against abortion.

The NP tested the waters by running candidates in the 2020 general election but none of their candidates were elected with only a few hundred votes each. The party blamed the media's determination to ignore them for their poor performance with most voters claiming to have never heard of the NP. Newspapers had incorrectly listed NP candidates as Independents if they even listed them at all. It seemed like there was a concerted effort by the mainstream media to pretend the NP did not exist and hope that they would fade away.

That all changed last night with RTE's hatchet job on Justin Barrett and the Nationalist movement in Ireland. RTE have realised that the NP are not going away so have decided they must take Barrett down. The public discovered the NP after the last general election and now the cat is out of the bag. They will build upon their name recognition for a more successful election run next time around. How do the esteemed posters of Boards feel about the NP?

I don't think its the kind of the attention that they would want given that so many people on twitter including the NP's own members were shocked that the party had 400k in assets.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gold was off the books given that the ordinary members of the party knew nothing about it.

I'd be interested to see this too, most of the tweets by apparent NP supporters/sympathisers that I can locate are along the lines of "Not surprising for a political party to have 400K in reserve, smart move to invest in gold with coming WEF-induced banking crisis (reverts to preferred conspiratorial mode)"...would love to hear from some sap who donated to NP 'in good faith" and is now wondering what they are doing with his hard-earned cash...

If this 400K had been amassed through a whole pile of smallish donations from said 'ordinary members', one of the few legitimate routes to its accumulation that I can think of, and as appears its conversion to gold 'reserves' was only known to a handful of party top brass, surely there'd be a few of these ordinary members asking questions in some corner of the Internet about what exactly Justin & co were doing with their money, as I can't imagine many envisaged it would help to form "the main part of the party’s reserves in case of a mishap in general or more particularly a collapse in the value of fiat currency."

It depends what the actual goals of the party are it could be a front for something else.

The NP leader has probably shot himself in the foot.

If you have a load of gold of questionable legality the last thing you should do is call the cops to report it stolen if gets robbed.

It makes about as much sense as a bank robber going to the cops and telling them some of the money he robbed from banks was stolen from him by other criminals.

To me the important question is whether the National Party is wise to favour gold over the Euro. Time will tell but I think they are correct in opting for gold. I also think they are correct about a lot of other things. The National Party is very small so it does seem likely to me at least that it`s gold holdings were acquired by the party member`s contributions, after all, those who are in the National Party are probably smarter than those who ascribe to conventional wisdom (mainstream thinking). That might sound facetious to a mainstream thinker but to those of us on the right it is just common sense.

So, do I agree with the National Party on everything? Probably not because I do not know where they stand on every single issue but on those issues I know they do stand for, I agree with them.

Final point, some people speculate the National Party`s gold might be from undeclared political donations. That is an area I always believed is no one else`s business to be honest. People vote for who they want, not necessarily those with the biggest posters or the smartest use of social media. If you want to donate, that is also your business, not anyone else`s. A leftist party may have a lot of small donations, an intelligent party may have a few large donations, at least that is how it should be allowed to work in my opinion. Perhaps freedom of choice is a concept conventional thinkers struggle with.

The party leader is so unaware of reality that he thinks he's only been married once, not twice.

The party has declared donations over its entire life of 10k. If they have 400k of gold, it isn't speculation that there have been undeclared donations - it is blatantly obvious to anyone who resides in the actual reality we live in, not whatever the hell distorted nonsense one you think you're "keeping".

THe 400K in gold is fully accounted for. It is from party members and therefore not from outside donations.

I do think it is interesting that the National Party choose gold. To me that means they are right. The FF, FG and SF are like three peas in a pod.

Party member contributions need to be accounted for, but they aren't; as the party breaches the law and does not submit SIPO returns in time.

You would make a great Jack of all trades. Well three trades anyway, Judge, Jurer and executioner. The sooner the National Party comes to power and drains the swamp, the better. In a free society, no rules apply to political donations. Mind you, back in the day, some left wing party (I think it was the Workers Party) got a donation from the USSR and they tried to keep it secret because the Soviet Union was on the brink of collapse at the time and the donation was embarrasing to them in a world where everyone knew socialism doesn`t work. Today`s left wing parties exist due to goldfish memory syndrome.
