Another guy on those ads also says "...because they never play the same songs repeatedly "
i had a chuckle recently, they played some vox pop style ad for themselves - you know, joe soap saying 'i love nova because..'
and one of the people in the ad said 'i love nova because i never don't know the songs that they play'.
I noticed some less common Nova songs being played over the weekend, still fairly safe stuff but was nice to hear a break from the norm
It's strange because they DO seem to play other music on the Guestlist show, so they clearly have licensed other music... just not bothering to play it in the mornings for example.
It's the way that pretty much all commercial radio operates nowadays. DJs (or should I say "presenters"?) have little or no control over their playlists anymore and are tied to the same couple of hundred tracks. It's supposedly what people want to hear; I've never understood that but I'm not your average person either. Add to that the restrictions imposed on commercial radio in Ireland and it all gets very bland.
I think I'm done.. been listening for 2 years or so, but it seems they have a total of 300 songs they continually cycle through and hardly ever hear any different tunes.
e.g. If they play Nirvana, it's "The Man Who Sold the World".. but what about all the other great tunes that were on Nirvana Unplugged?
Is it just purely a licensing thing or just laziness?
The Guestlist show in the evenings is the only show where they seem to take chances and play some different tunes from both new and old artists
I’ve also heard Lar on Christmas FM and if I remember rightly, he had a very distinctive voice. I must listen out for him as I enjoyed his shows
The guy who filled in for a night or two I can only assume is Peter Redmond?
When you mentioned Lar, I did a quick check and I see that it is Lar Flynn of Dublin City FM, Christmas FM and The Sound of Ireland. I have heard him on the latter two and I like his style.
Anyone know what's the story with The Friday Night Rock Show? Is Tony gone from Nova? Lar is ok (and a million times better than the eejit who filled in for a night or two.....couldn't even remember the name of the show!) but Tony is FNRS!
I know that Radio Nova played Sinead O'Connor's first album The Lion and the Cobra on Thursday night. I am just listening to Pat James now marking the passing of Sinead on Nova's digital station Classic Rock. Was there any other special tributes to Sinead in the last few days on Nova?
This is what it says on their website Homepage:
Broadcasting from our studios in Waterford City we are currently available all over Dublin and Cork on DAB, and worldwide with continual streaming since 2007. Zenith Classic Rock has also enjoyed broadcasting on both 1584 AM Stereo and 103.8 FM Stereo across the South East of Ireland.......................The long-term aim for the promoters of Zenith Classic Rock is to strive towards securing a fulltime transmission license from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to serve the South East of Ireland on a permanent basis.
It is actually a bit out of date. That DAB reference was related to the pirate operation FreeDAB. The point is that it has not secured a permanent license.
Absolute shyte - almost as bad as Bruce and Patti's syndicated show a few years back. Don't give up the day job.
Firstly, Kim Wilde 80s is not on Radio Nova. It is on sister station Classic Hits. Secondly, I am guessing that the show "exclusive" to Radio Nova is the one I referred to involving Duff McKagen.
It's unlikely ever to happen.
Have they abandoned the idea of going on national FM?
What's with the syndicated programming like the Kim Wilde 80s show and now they have another that are 'exclusive' to radio Nova. Everyone knows they are pre recorded, are they super cheap?
I see on one evening they now have something about the environment, is that to try and boost their talk content which they have to have a set amount of as part of their license?
I see that a thread about the 1980s on Radio Nova has strayed into general Nova territory, which I contributed to! So, I am bringing the last post into this general thread. Kieran McGuinness has been presenting that program for a while. Before him, another musician turned presenter had a similar show. His name was Gavin Glass.
Has anyone heard the new show presented by Guns 'n' Roses bassist Duff McKagen on Saturday evenings and repeated on Sunday nights?
I heard Mark Noble yesterday evening. He is standing in for Greg Gaughren all week. Greg's absence is what probably presented the opportunity for Paul McLoone last weekend, with the Saturday evening slot normally presented by Greg. I thought Mark did a good job in terms of presentation, having not really been familiar with him when he was on FM104.
I think Nova would get away with throwing a few more album tracks into their playlist during the day. It could be done subtly.
It must have been his 7-10pm show. But its a few years ago now so can't remember for sure.
Initially, Paul McLoone was on Monday to Thursday from 7pm-10pm, the slot previously occupied by Tom Dunne with his Pet Sounds show. Then Paul was moved to the 10pm to midnight slot. I think people knew then that it was only a matter of time before his show was ditched altogether, which is what happened.
I used to love his evening show on Today fm, but then I think they changed the time or ditched it, but bar Dec Pearse, don't listen to Today fm anymore.
I heard a good bit of Paul McLoone's show last night and a bit of it tonight. All of the above is true. I like his style.
Just listening to his show on Nova now, such good music selection. Knowledgeable and professional, need more people like him on the airwaves.
Interesting.
Thanks a million folks. Can confirm "Radio Nova 100" works.
Yup "Radio Nova 100' works for me.
I think there might be conflict on google voice commands between themselves and a different radio nova (in Australia?)
Say "Radio Nova 100" and it will work
Hey folks
Is there some reason why we can't stream Nova on our Google smart speaker?
Thanks
Mr Edge
