Translation: "This is the picture I am selling"
Russia still has a vast military, they spent the winter digging in, they have a minefield the size of Florida. What they lack in quality, they make up for in quantity. Ukraine has to break-through defenses that are miles thick, defense-in-depth. They are making some progress, but it's slow going.
On top of that, Ukraine doesn't have a Navy, they don't have much of an air-force, they don't have ballistic and cruise missiles, they have to cope with a multitude of foreign systems and equipment, they can't go into Russia to go around defenses, they can't attack logistic bases in Russia, they don't have all the equipment they want, but they are making do, they have both arms and both legs tied behind their back. Not bad going.
We all need the reality check sometimes of where Ukraine are coming from. You don't go from expected to being squashed within 3 days to completely lording it over a much larger military in the space of two years.
They're still the plucky underdog who have exceeded expectations. Expectations have now inflated somewhat since then. It's worth repeating they are fighting with one hand behind their back. Have limited range, can't hit Russia officially, no navy and miniscule airpower.
Concerns are justified I feel though, at the rate of support for them, as we see born out by how a winter of digging in has helped the Russians. Another year of finding ways around sanctions also helps Russia shore things up. They're not going home without being turfed out.
Background noise, becomes a part of the daily routine after awhile.
The size of Florida... What nonsense. Russian doesn't even control an area that large and they obviously haven't mined all of the territory that they control.
Maybe, but more than likely it will only reinforce Putin's claims that Russian is under attack, and only he can save them. Still, under the propaganda fog, there has to be a growing proportion of Russians who see the war and Putin for what they are.. Remember the support that was shown for Prigozhin in Rostov? V the very unwelcome message the returning policemen got. We will have to wait and see how far the next crack in the system will travel.
The ramping up of attacks on Odese really worries me, Russia slowly but surely destroying everything that Ukraine needs to operate currently and post war. Its similar to how they've done in Mauripol and every other city they've tried to invade.
Meanwhile they use little attacks on the bridge and drones in Moscow as reason to bombard the Ukrainians. I'm still unsure if any of the Moscow drone attacks are even Ukrainians or false flag operations.
They need some big losses of their attack capabilities to reduce the continuous attacks or there will be nothing worth saving in Ukraine.
That's the approach I would take if I had the resources...resist just enough to draw them in and then surround, cut off and take another chunk off the board.
They all make noise when they explode ( and in some cases, incoming rounds can be heard, depends on what it is) and the louder the explosion, the closer they are. When they explode one or two hundred metre's away or even closer, time to take cover.

With an immense arsenal of mines at their disposal, the Russians have landmined Ukrainian territory at an unprecedented rate, making it one of the largest minefields in the world. It's estimated that approximately 170,000 square kilometers are now covered with anti-tank or anti-personnel landmines
When Ukraine take an area held by the Russian's, they demine that area, but beyond it, the mines remain. These mines were laid by the Russians, who would have mapped the minefield for cases just like this. They know where and the pattern the mines are laid in. So the Minefield does not bother them. That's how it should be anyway , but with Russia????
Nice selective quoting. You missed the part that said many of the mine fields are Ukrainian mine fields.
It’s not far off letting off a nuclear device to so Ukraine can’t have the land either
Calm down there. The point was that Ukrainians have to contend with a lot of mines, spread across an immense surface area and front-line. It's highly challenging in the best of circumstances. Some individuals are delightedly leaping to declare a Ukrainian failure because they haven't pushed the Russians back to the sea yet. As mentioned, it's not going to be like Kharkiv, it's going to be slow progress.
Not a fan of her politics in general, but Meloni really lays the smack down when it comes to Ukraine
I heard about the Russian drone attacks this morning on grain facilities on the Danube. I had to double check it wasn't Romania attacked.
Margarita when asked for a comment.
Not just using food as a weapon, but literally blowing up the food (and/or food infrastructure. This time within visual sight of a NATO member country. The level of sheer spite among Russia's leadership is genuinely unlimited.
If one of those landed in Romania I'd get the impression Romania would be forced by other Nato members to say it was a Ukrainian drone gone astray.
Looks like apathy has crept into Nato members and money trumps all decisions over humanity.
Grain traders, investors and farmers worldwide are quietly or even not so quietly thanking Putin for attacking Ukraine.
Soddom and Gomorrah. Soddom and Gomorrah. Russian ideals accepted by the world. Oul Mick Wallace will be our ambassador for change and advisory on such ways.
Obviously a totally normal society
Four out of four
Russia really are playing with fire now. That attack looked a few hundred metres away from a NATO border.
Lol.
Hand grenade skills for year 10 students.
Ahh shure, what could go wrong....
Pretty much. It took us about three weeks in Iraq, as I recall before we stopped running for cover at every reasonably nearby boom
I am reminded of Rule 1 on Page 1 of the Book of War.
Surprised Russian cinemas are even still getting western releases. Could it be a case of them banning something they weren’t even going to get at their cinemas?
Russia's done some dumb sh it during this war but banning people from seeing Margot Robbie has to be the dumbest sh it they've done yet.
They're still getting them, albeit through less legitimate means. I guess it's a case that the cops have been given an extra avenue for shakedowns.
Jojo Rabbit?
Progress.
But an eye needs to be kept on the Kharkiv direction.
