The issue with tubridys radio figures is that they include the 9am news bulletin at the beginning. His numbers could be remarkably resilient as a result.
If he is so talent push him back to 2FM, or even better to Lyric FM, same time and for 1 hour.
When he took over G Ryan’s slot post Ryan’s demise, he lost 40% of the listeners, and they’ve never recovered those.
Yet Kelly used this exact reasoning to suggest any of his stars could be let go with 3 successive JNLR drops. The reality of course is that never happens in RTÉ.
Honestly I think having hugely overpaid presenters is something RTE are proud of and love boasting about the "talent"
Kind of like "look at us and how much we pay all these people, we must be great"

I think you are right there. Being the one that paid the highest fees when such fees were not warranted was all about making RTE feel that it was the top of the tree, the place to be.

Now now now, as Bakhurst said the other day... he was their when they move Tubridy to Radio 1 from 2fm ... and it was a very good decision ...
Whether he has or hasn’t a “bug to bear” with RTÉ doesn’t invalidate the points he makes.
He’s a practicing barrister; when he examines the cases presented by Tubs & NKM and RTÉ with that hat on so to speak his analysis is sharp. He calls it bluntly, calling out for example Tubs’ pleas to think of the children and his “I love your county” crap for well, being the crap it is.
No-one can force you to listen, but sometimes it’s good to listen to views outside your own circle.
Get an elderly relative to send them in on your behalf. They get free tv licence, don’t they?

It's a good point and it's a question I have been asking since Tubridy's position at RTE Radio became questionable. For the 53 minutes that Tubridy is on air, would the advertising revenue generated for that time be significantly less in the long term if another presenter were to replace him? I feel I'm asking a dumb question as I'm sure others on this thread are more knowledgeable about this. And that brings me again as to why does it feel to me that Backhurst is dancing to Tubridy's tune when the ball should really be in RTE's court? Tubridy has referred to his radio job and has quoted if I'm not mistaken as saying "It's all I've got"
Is Backhurst more concerned about anti Tubridy backlash and maybe possible legal proceedings especially if RTE were to dispense with his services as opposed to any possible drop in advertising revenue? From what I know he is not in contract, so in other words what's the deal here: advertising revenue, just keeping Tubridy or is it way more complicated than that?

Speaking from experience, if you pay to advertise on a specific show the costs don't change because that host is on holidays......so for example when Ryan is on one of his many, many days off/holidays/rest breaks 🙄 etc. you don't get a discount as an advertiser because say for example Marty Morrissey is sitting in for him.
This of course is another example of RTE having their cake and eating it too as surely if the star name commands so much advertising revenue when he's not on air there would be a drop in listenership and a drop in advertising rates? But no, there's not. It's the slot that's important, not the host.

I guess RTE will take Tubs back as they are the cause of the whole issue by issuing false figures and using some 'creative' payment methods.
The longer RTE's dirty laundry is not aired in public, the longer this will go on. Resulting in major distrust of RTE continuing.
