yeah, so although taking the 5,000km is by far the better value use of the referral credits, I'd only do it if I was going to be passing SuC's and using them on a daily basis, as in reality 5,000km will be about 8,000km real world km's, so any regular user would struggle to use that many in 6 months...

Australian website reporting on Tesla's quarterly earnings update to shareholders that Elon hasn't ruled out future price cuts to the M3 & MY.

He also doubled down on FSD, noting the Tesla fleet value increase at the point FSD is uploaded.

Sales are good. The Model Y is the best selling car in China 😮 as well as still the best selling car in the world this year (as some of you recall I predicted last year)

Brazen comment though from Musk that they might further cut prices of Model 3 and Model Y as the elephant in the room in the earnings update is that the margin is down to 9.6%. That's a huge drop in margin, but I suppose still very healthy compared to the competition.

I suspect TSLA will drop sharply when the Nasdaq opens today. The short term focussed market don't like that sort of stuff...

-5% on opening, yeah as I predicted. Interesting to see what's happening in the next few days. I got out a few weeks ago as it was getting a bit hot for me. Wouldn't be the first time I made that mistake just like Sir Isaac Newton 😂

Very true. He basically said if times go harder he'd consider more cuts to shift volume but then he also said that economic forecasts change daily and that we are in "turbulent times" (which I agree with).

So no one really knows what will happen.

One thing though is that if there is another cut, will the SEAI grant be gone by then (currently being phased out altogether I believe)? Because if it is it might just come back down to the same price it is now which makes sense.

Nobody outside cabinet knows about exact further cuts to the grant. It was €5000 until this month, now it is €3500. It will be abolished. My guess would be €2500 left in Jan, then €1500 July, then gone by 2025

Ioniq 5 is a great car. More of a competitor to the Model Y though, isn't it? You will lose a lot of space and practicality if you move to Model 3

Why don't you hang on to the Ioniq 5 for a while longer? Great looking car. Looks are objective but imho it's the nicest looking in class. And neither the Model 3 nor the Model Y are lookers.

would it not make sense and better marketing to have him in a commercial version of a model Y?

there would be just as much space in it.

They started with a single diesel van for the first ranger. The Tesla customers were not impressed - they could have seen that coming - so they switched over every new service vehicle to Model S (long range). Looks like they still have that single van then?

That guy did have an X for a while but the range wasn't good enough to reliably cover his day as he had a large catchment area so he threw it back and stuck with the diesel. Not a good look but it was necessary.

Maybe a long range Y would work now and his catchment area has been reduced too so they might get rid of it when the lease is up.

My neighbor works for Joe Duffy BMW. He has a parts delivery van. It’s a VW transporter.

I am getting a drivers seat replaced on my M3 this week, was supposed to be a mobile visit but they told me they don't have the vans anymore and all mobile techs are driving a Model S. Had to book a slot in Sandyford because they couldn't fit a new seat in the S to transport it.

I get they want to go away from using diesel service vehicles, but there are other electric van options out there. Silly when they can't fit the parts/tools for a job in the car!

Gotta agree, but I guess it is not often they have to bring a part as big as a seat. And I have to admit it looks awesome when there is a Model S "van" parked right beside my own Model S to service it. The kids in my estate go mental when they see that 😁

Went into town for dinner last night and spotted two different Model S within a few minutes. Now that is rare, wonder how many there are in the country, did anyone ever find out? Just a hunch that it is somewhere between 100 and 200. I'm still the only Model S in Lucan afaik (population between Adamstown and Lucan maybe up to about 60,000 or thereabouts)

Yeah, I guess its not that often! To be fair to the service team they did seem to try and think outside the box a bit and were considering removing the passenger seat from their Model S so that they could put in the new seat and then take it out when they got to my place. But they decided they didn't want to risk damaging the seat in the process, so mobile service wasnt an option. Ill be glad of my new seat, it started to develop a really annoying creak after a couple of 100kms that just wont go away!!

Looking at the SIMI Motorstats page, it seems there has been 142 Model S registered in the country between 2015 and 2023, was curious myself! Im not sure if that data includes imported cars though too, or just new registrations https://stats.beepbeep.ie/
