Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Comedy might be subjective.
Impressionism is not. You either sound like someone or you don't
Callan cannot do impressions. He doesn't sound like anyone he's trying to impersonate to the point he'll often announce who he's about to impersonate.
He also seems to put it at the wrong times. I mean comedy itself is about timing. He can't even get that part right.
All I wouldn't mind if he didn't attempt them on the show. You can be upbeat, lighthearted friendly etc without cracking bad jokes and doing awful impressions
I’ve no issue with people finding Callan’s Kicks funny. They are obviously wrong, but they are entitled to think it.
Like there’s a team of writers freelancing to come up with the material for Kicks and that’s the best they can come up with? They should consider any other career apart from comedy writing. Aldi are hiring.
Now is the time to overhaul that slot. Personally I fincd OC as funny as watching paint dry. As for RT his smugness and I would also say ego has really shone through during both enquires. I don't know RT personally and maybe he is genuinely a nice guy but at the end of the day he accepted money that he should not accepted. And to make matters worse tried to take both committees, the ordinary worker who is keeping RTE afloat and the Irish public for fools. Having said that there are a certain cohort of his audience who are avid fans and would welcome him back tomorrow. Is there enough listeners out there persuade the DG and advitisers to make it possible for RT to return. I guess we will know at the end of this week.
Tubridy alone doesn't bring in the advertising. The station and the time slot do.
No-one suggested a complete novice or an unknown person could replace him. But the advertising doesn't dry up completely when Brendan Courtney, Oliver Callan or any of the other people who've sat in for him when he's away on his many, many holidays and breaks are in the chair.
You have repeatedly said Tubs doesn't bother with boards, he's not on Twitter so where is he seeing all of this abuse?
And as for "probably get badgered in the pub" - any evidence of this? One documented piece of evidence we have of Tubs being abused shows a very different version of events that NKM went to the papers about. NKM/Tubs claimed he was verbally abused and called a homosexual slang term by a muscle bound tattoo'ed 20 something year old. However said 20 year old man turned out to be a scrawny boy likely aged between 10-12 years of age. Tubs and NKM hadn't banked on the youngster recording it and posting it on Tik Tok and expose the cynical exaggeration designed to garner sympathy for The Toyman......rather like some of his and Kelly's testimony before the Oireachtas Committee.
They are not "obviously" wrong. That's your opinion, on a subjective matter.
There are many comedies or sketch shows I'm sure you like that many won't find funny. That doesn't mean they're wrong.
If Callan replaced Tubs he would be on less than €250K a year and as well was being a better host he would be much better value.
Things that just aren’t funny - Callan’s Kicks; Liveline Funny Friday, Joe Brolly, The Big Bang Theory, Blindboy Boatclub, Darren Conway, all Twitter “satire” accounts.
Edit: Tubs cousin David McSavage as well.
Everybody, apart from RTE management , seems to agree that that post is on the nail?
unbelievable Jeff.
There are many on RTE radio/tv who should just be terminated. Duffy, Tubs, Miriam O'Callaghan, Darcy and Fanning off the top of my head. RTE should give younger people a chance but they side with the 'talent' that isn't really talent and our youngest and brightest have to go elsewhere.
Any examples of the youngest and brightest who have gone elsewhere?
FunnyFryday is a hate crime against comedy. If there's one good thing to come from this RT/RTE scandal it's hopefully the end of the Joe Duffy & Pals Junket Gravy Train - worth an investigation in itself for the costs and fees involved.
I've never heard of Darren Conway.
Apart from Callan's Kicks; I can agree with the rest, with some exceptions on parody accounts.
You left out Killinaskully, Mrs. Brown's Boys, The Doireann Project, The Roaring Twenties, Bridget & Eamonn, The Walshs, The Cassidys, Upwardly Mobile, The Young Offenders, Leave It To Mrs. O'Brien, Ryantown and many other homegrown shows I see? Are you a fan?
I understand it can be a difficult figure to quantify.
The market been small should be a help rather than hindrance though no?
e.g. there's very few positions to be filled. There's a huge amount of people who would bite your hand off for the position.
This should put all the cards in the hand of the employer to drive down to more "reasonable" salaries.
Ones where they're high enough you get the person you want but they won't jump ship at the first opportunity
Stephen nolan at least used to do a radio phone in show on 5 live. Probably unfair to have him in there, while he's based in NI the show is broadcasted all over the UK.
Didn't Lucy Kennedy leave and Ian Dempsey years ago.
A quote from Dempsey -- Almost 20 years after he stunned the nation by leaving RTE, DJ Ian Dempsey said it is scary to see the same people still doing the same job at the national broadcaster.
Is Nolan’s show broadcast all over the UK? Listening to angry Nordies complaining about flags, parades and the colour of passports could be considered torture under UN Conventions. Don’t know why the Beeb would make anyone apart from Nordies listen to it, even accidentally
I’d rather untangle a large box of cables than listen to that misery.
Ah now...he said the youngest and brightest .....😁😁😁
The late evening show he used to /does on 5 live would have been yep.
Don't remember too many nordies on it though :)
I typed it out and then chose not to :)
I find it great craic.
Its BBC Radio Ulster at 9am.
They also let that young upstart Eamonn Andrews go.
He also used to do a late night show on 5 live each night.
Not sure if he still does.
There's plenty of upstarts still there though.
From the newspapers and the media in general it seems that the outrage over RTE's mismanagement is reducing and everything is set to go back to normal in RTE. I guess only a mass TV licence strike will make any difference.
We can do Lottie?
Sorry I mean RTE can do Lottie.
In reality the strongest radio presenters are on local radio but don't have the right name to get into RTE. If Tubs wasn't related to who he was he would have never got near a national broadcaster, neither would Lottie or Doireann etc etc
That’s why it is vital that the Government pull the finger out and ensure public service broadcasting is properly funded through either income tax or collected as a standing charge by the ESB.
Thats a Bingo and I read you 5 by 5.
Stephen Nolan has Show on BBC 5 Live as well as his BBC Northern Ireland show. So he doesn't really work as a comparison.
If you stick Tubridy in one of those later time slots he won't remain as the second most listened to radio presenter. His replacement would though.
Again BBC are running at a profit so hardly a good comparison. If RTE want to compare themselves to BBC then run at a profit.
As confirmed in the PAC meeting nobody was outbidding RTE for Tubs. So why are they increasing his wages and giving him backhanders? If I went into my boss and told him nobody else wants me, I have no other rivals but I want more money or money hidden to me I would be told to f off and rightly so
Have to agree with you about Callan is piss poor and no a patch on Conor Moore who is able to sit beside people and take them off to a tee. Callan is a Rte star in his head and a canteen member to be rolled out.
He is also on BBC Radio 5.
