I worked for a couple of years in the UK for a large multinational pharmaceutical company. I was on the social committee and for or our Christmas party one year we considered getting Gary Barlow from Take That to perform at it. This was approx 20* years ago and Barlow was in the middle of his solo career, I’m not sure if he was on X Factor at the time but he was a big star nonetheless. Not my cup of tea but our majority female committee were mad to have him perform for them.
His fee (from memory) was about £10,000 sterling for 90mins - 2 hours. This was considerably cheaper btw than many of the other acts considered, incl. our own Ronan Keating, and acts like X Factor rejects like Chico and The Cheeky Girls. I think Ronan’s fee was £50,000 btw. So what was the catch?
Well, Barlow would only perform if we used a certain lighting company, certain stage company, certain back up band, certain transport company…..and so on. Guess who owned all those companies? Gary Barlow. Tubs and NKM missed out on these other lucrative sidelines. If they’re reading this I’ve probably given them ideas now……
We ended up with Vernon Kay for (again from memory) £25,000 to do some sort of I would call cabaret act involving some of my colleagues (basically ripping the piss out of them on stage), tell a few jokes. and him doing a dj set of chart music. A load of toss really but the ladies loved it. Talk about easy money.

Why am I not surprised. It just reinforces that you can get tossers in all sectors and going full hog privitisation doesn't cure all ills. Hadnt considered the process but christ there is some serious potential for the private sector to screw money out of a weak and incredibly easily led RTE Senior mgt, who seem to exist to feather their nest in every possible way. It's no bloody surprise that the 'talent' have ended up in such a lucrative position, given that it seems that this is the template used by all asundry when interacting with RTE.
Its also incredible that Minister Martin hasn't been held more accountable for the fiasco that is RTE. Is it reasonable to accept that the Minister can shrug her shoulders about the shite show that has been going on there and avoid all accountability for this mess by promising multiple reviews by consultants that have been handsomely paid for ensuring everything is ship shape in RTE over the years? Just an excuse for these entrepreneurs to suck up even more taxpayer funds and achieve absolutely fcuk all.
To be honest the RT affair is just a microcosm of what is wrong with RTE. Kicking the shite out of him will not fix the ills within RTE but will serve as a convenient distraction and ensure the general public hunger for blood is sated allowing RTE to maintain the status quo for all the reat accustomed to swilling from the trough

I really think the vast majority of the RTE audience weren’t happy with RTs activities. I can see government intervention if he’d brought back. People will be pissed off and it’ll be another ship amongst the many to beat the governments back with. There’s an election coming in less than 2 years now. It just doesn’t make for a good look. I think KB will perish on this rock as well unless he grows a pair.
If the new DG is taking holidays already, he is worse than all that have gone before him. An absolute piss take.

He apologised for not correcting the figures for his salary that RTE produced. Which he knew were wrong.

RT is technically not guilty but that’s not the point. He set out to retain his salary despite others taking pay cuts. He accepted the contracts that allowed that despite knowing there was more than met the eye. He didn’t make any public comment on what RTE published. He knew (or had to know) his true salary. Nobody believes him when he says he didn’t. I don’t think many are fooled.
I see Cadbury are sponsoring the RTÉ coverage of The Womens World Cup, at least everyone will now be clear they sell chocolate 😂

another thing I don't get is, why did RTE exec's feel that they had to meet RT's salary demands? like, where was he gonna go instead?! why would they risk their jobs/reps etc ??? (I am sure that they knew there was a possibility of this all coming to light - which it has done)
yes its pretty obvious what will happen. Bakhurst is just the 'yes man' with the big speeches and promises but it will be back to the future as soon as this dies down. He was obviously put in place to make sure no 'new news' gets out of RTE and to keep everything In-house and secret so that the chosen few can continue to plunder.
They are probably going together.
