They’re expensive but I think the advantage feeders are the only job.
The crows are an awful bother eating out the green square type ones.
i find the calf creep feeder you hang on a gate is a good job. It was plastic flaps on the front. It would hold 1.5 25kg bags
True statement, does old Joe still try to sell now, one old fella said of Baltinglass it was like getting into bed with two snakes, that him and the son were that slippery.
Using stock line with copper and iodine for the first time this year and see ewes improving with it, on the third round of dosing since lambing.
Fleeces are a bit dry on mine. I’d prefer them a bit softer/oilier. They have at least 3 rounds of Grovite got but I’d like them better.
Cobalt ?
Probably need bit more Cobalt alright. Historically we wouldn’t have had a deficiency in that. I have your mix from above made up and am going to give it to them at the weekend.
First year using stockline due to a friend using it last year and very happy with it, we haven’t used copper in a few years and that’s why we changed over from bolus for the moment, we found the ewes fleece we’re not as dry looking and we’re easy sheared. The replacement hoggets also have got 3 runs of it as only 7ml and found a great bloom off them and stretching out after shearing. Will use ovitone at sponging time and after.
anyone use turbo sheep ? need to give my ladies a dose of it before sponging
Ya I used it the last few years and felt it was a good mineral drench, and ewes scanned well
I use it but I reckon it’s the least important thing to have right for them
might throw in a few pointers please ,new to the sponging game ,my ewes are in good condition ,ram is young and good feet .
Never sponged ewes here so I’m no good really to you. Have you many ewes going to the one ram? Ram power would be important
Can you use Clik the same day the sheep are shorn or is it better to wait a week or three?
Why would you want to use it so soon?
They don’t be long making a few maggots if they lie in shite
Under a lot of time pressure, one gathering be better
usually wait about 3 weeks after shearing before i would use clik
too soon, need a re growth of wool for clik to get long term protection
minimum 3 weeks, longer the better after that to get to the end of fly strike season with 1 application
Sorting through ewes here this morning picking out culls, notice some mule ewes that were born in 2016 2017 and are in great condition and good mouths and elders. Question is would you chance these ewes for another year or are they likely to become the problem ewes at next lambing due to age?
Prob more likely to have problems due to age but they’re your best genetics to have lasted that long. Good ewes for replacements
Id chance them especially if they are in the condition you say
I have waited 6 weeks.. no issues
Hi all, looking for a bit of help to shift some wool.
who buys wool in Tipperary, I have a friend near thurles who is new to sheep and doesn’t know where to go with it…..so I said I would ask on here.
is there anyone in that area that would collect wool from the yard …:approx 220 fleeces in all
TIA
Dooleys outside roscrea not sure about collecting it. Would probably only cover diesel to drop it off.
Hi all
Iv purchased cydectin 2% injection for lambs but they say to inject behind he ear
Iv never done this before it's a strange place to do it or could I just give it in the neck. Would any have pics or a vidio of it being done thanks
I use the same on weanlings and I asked the vet and he said it was grand into the neck as usual. I’ve been using it the last few years and it works grand.
I did use it in the fat part of the ear on weanlings and the needle is so fine that it was no problem at all ,sorry no experience on sheep
Give the ram some feed for 2 weeks before tipping.
Another sponging question for those in the know please..if I sponge a grand total of 10 ewes consisting of 5 hoggets and 5 2/3 year olds..do I still need to introduce the ram to the hoggets 12 hours ahead of the rest or would it be ok to let him at them all when number is small? Thanks
