Nice haul by the Authorities yesterday in Rosslare harbour . Whilst many here glorify Drug Taking & Drug dealing its causing huge issues all over the country as Scumm Bags destroy towns, villages & Familys resulting in a wave of suicides in our locality over drug debts .
you found it easy to walk away from?
many have said that was a positive development.
And many have said the opposite.
Yes, they decriminalised it which is the first step before legalising it. After 2 years, they say it is still too early to see if this drug approach is working. It is not a comment from a random person but the title of the audit published by Oregon Health Authority:
Yes I do complain when Gardai use so much resources on the War on Drugs, instead of crimes which involve a non-consenting victim such as robbery, assault etc.
If you legalise it then organise crime can't make a profit out of it?
Then the state can tax it and redeploy its security forces to more pressing matters?
We can also inform our citizens against the dangers of it , a bit like we do with alcohol.
where will the state get the drugs from?
From the drug suppliers?
who will they be?
Give me a minute there , i will just check my little black book.
He used to live in Colombia and now lives on a ranch in Sinaloa, the last time he was seen anyways.
We already inform our citizens of the dangers of it and they still take it. Making it legal will just increase the use because people will think it is safe, more addictions and more social issues once people burn wages etc and have to start robbing to feed habit
We would end up ruining the lives of millions of people just to keep a few drug users happy. Why not stop the drug users and the illegal drug trade? if the drug dealers dont have customers they wont sell it. So education of users doesn't seem to work does it? reading this thread will confirm that
As I posted already no country has made the buying and selling of cocaine legal.
Can you supply the name of the legal cocaine suppliers we can hook up with? the Kinahans?
...exactly!
legislation more than likely means the state encouraging/facilitating and getting into bed with very questionable folks, this would also need to be debated prior to any legalisation bill!
Crime is crime. You complain about the Garda yet you are using illegal drugs and funding organised crime.
Maybe if everyone stopped using illegal drugs the Garda could worry about the other crimes instead of spending all their time on drugs?
has alcohol become safer due to legalisation? do people already burn wages consuming it, have thefts occurred, in order to consume it?
how many people and households has alcohol already ruined?
how do you propose the stoppage of the consumption and distribution of such substances, and can you give examples of such successes?
Lets take you scenario. The State legalises it and tax it. Does 20% sound right to you (below current VAT)?
Are you saying the black market wouldn’t continue to work when consumers can get the same product 20% cheaper? It is not like the criminals would need to build the logistics of it, it is already in place.
Are you also saying that with the tax collected, there would be enough money to fund the consequences of legalising drugs (HSE would need money to deal with the fallout) AND there would be enough money in the kitty to also fund more pressing matters?
I see more holes in your approach than in a gruyère.
In reality the majority of people use alcohol as it should be. Yes it ruins lives but so does gambling etc
Im not really sure what the point of the post is to be honest. Are you saying that we should compare alcohol and cocaine?
To be honest I don't see we need to compare the both. Why can't we just discuss cocaine for what it is and the merits of making it legal or not. To me it's whataboutery when we start pointing at alcohol. Will you make alcohol illegal if you make cocaine legal? no I wouldn't think so.
So the discussion should be a standalone. To me it's a none runner from the start because of the addictive nature of cocaine. That before we get into production and supply
We need major investment in technology, the authorities are paid too little and there's not enough staff. The penalty for importing class A drugs into Ireland needs to be enormous.
We are better trying to educate the user. The user now thinks it is cool because they seen it on TV. Years ago it was the opposite so it was reduced to a lot smaller pockets. We have a user on here that seems to have no idea about the drugs and that should be a concern.
So maybe we educate people on what actually happens. If you don't have any users you don't have a criminal organisation to supply them. Some people are silly enough to think the couple of lines doesn't hurt anyone but in reality it is the big problem. That is what is funding this whole criminal organisation.
Like Love/hate, was it supposed to glorify Dublin gangs because that is what it ended up doing. Now I know people die at the end but in reality we had loads of kids thinking it was cool to be a drug dealer than been the Garda catching them.
im afraid we re in a little bit of a limbo land in regards the dangers of alcohol, the jury really is still out there on how dangerous it truly is, and then we have all the lobbyists throwing their 2 cents(probably a lot of lies) into the pot!
yup, most, if not all addictive substances and activities are dangerous for humans, from alcohol, drugs(both legal and illegal), gambling, risky sexual behaviors. just general risky human behaviors, we re a pretty fcuked up lot really, we kinna like getting fcuked up, and doing fcuked up things, and thats probably never gonna change....
yes, those mentioned above can and are compared amongst professionals, as they are common outcomes from all sorts of human dysfunctions and disorders etc etc. highly distressed humans have a tendency to turn to such behaviors the world over, and theres also plenty of evidence from our ancestral past to, of such outcomes....we have actually legalised all sorts of highly addictive substances, from alcohol and many different foods, and food additives, many known to cause all sorts of physical and psychological hard to humans, many of foods legally allowed are in fact dangerous for human consumption, but yet....for example aspartame has been legal for a long time now, but yet.....
More technology means more taxes. Which people are unwilling to pay but some are more than willing to plough their money into illegal drugs.
Then complain about the Garda. Like its baffling that people can't link the two
This is the friendly local drug dealer, firing shots in middle of day at people: https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/derek-bottler-devoy-most-hunted-22412863
At this stage if you look long and hard enough at everything you will find something bad with it. But then again you don't need to look hard at some items to know they are bad.
Again I am not sure what relevance this has to cocaine? are we saying that at some stage we will find sniffing cocaine mixed with talc, baking soda and god knows what else is actually safe?
In terms of food, its a bigger discussion.
...of course cocaine is not good for us, it never has been, and it probably never will be, but the reasons why humans consume things that are known to be bad for them is in fact highly complex, again, we do this in our abundance with 'bad foods', i even do this myself, as i know i have a sugar addiction, ive known about this for maybe decades now, ive even discussed this with medical professionals, some of them even having their own similar addictions, yet.....
all harmful consumables are a part of the same debate, why the hell do we do it??? if you can find the real answer to this, and prevent them from happening, period, you d be doing well!
That's why we need a discussion on each drug/product/whatever you want to call them.
Not start a discussion and the first thing is "oh look at XYZ"
again, totally disagree, the broader question of why we engage in known harmful acts must be asked, along side these issues, as the answers tend to be highly complex in nature....
You are not going to be able to stop people taking every single substance in the World that might or might not be harmful to them. As I said if you look long enough at every product you will find it can be harmful in some way.
So you ban the really bad ones, cocaine, and then for the other ones you provide warnings etc and then people make the choice.
...can you show us definitive proof that doing such truly work(s)ed?
noting, cocaine is currently illegal in ireland, yet.....
Everytime the crime that cocaine users contribute to is brought up we always have these mad comparisons.
How does filling your car with petrol support crime? Especially at the level that we see with cocaine use?
I don't wish to go off-topic, but the NI Peace Process was very complicated but they got there, GFA. 25 years later, life there is still not perfect, but most would say it's an improvement. I believe legalisation would be too.
...probably wouldnt be as peaceful unfortunately...
Yes. Ecstasy was my favourite illegal drug, I did it many times, enjoyed it, then got bored with it and gave it up, like all of my E-taking friends, many years ago. Anyway I have to leave this fascinating debate and satisfy my real addiction, Dublin GAA and enjoy our big game today, hopefully. Adios.
...you maybe very lucky, i could see myself becoming very addicted to a substance such as cocaine very quickly, which would simply terrify me, im truly grateful that i never tried anything, i had enough problems with alcohol, so, fcuk that....
