Good news for Tralee

I don't know if it was mentioned before - but I called over to McDonalds area and the dingle fish/seafood shop is closed. It's been a long time since I was over there so it could be gone a long time.
That is gone ages at this stage, can't even remember when, it was mentioned here at the time I'd say.
Argos is now gone
Saw some work going on there today.
T.
Perhaps they'll do a repeat of last year, and feck off at Christmas again? 😛
Dealz in Abbeycourt/Central Plaza being renamed as Pepco and opening a much larger store with a new clothing department on July 16th. It's closed for the next few weeks to allow the internal upgrade to be completed.
Was delighted to see an event management company has been contracted for the Rose of Tralee ……. Shannon Star Entertainments.
A quick google to find out it’s actually Bryan Carr.
Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire!!!!!
I agree with you fully. That Brian Carr doesn't know when to get off.All we are going to see are muppets walking around town, traders from out of town coming in taking over the town centre with exorbitant prices. And the town council employees so few cleaning the rubbish in the mornings. And the worst part is they will get a grant for it.Some fiddle cause can't see that company doing it without profit.I would like to hear what other boarders think.
He used to come around collecting money from businesses for the Rose of Tralee, so he must have been employed by the company at some stage! I would have preferred to see Oliver Hurley getting this gig as he did a lovely job during Christmas!
The Kerryman have said he used to be the Event Manager for them and also Business Development Manager. He is still down as being employed by the Rose of Tralee on LinkedIn.
Some joke if that’s the case there a whiff of RTE/Ryan Tubridy off that arrangement.
I think he was top dog when the square was shut down to the public for ticketed events years ago and there was nearly a riot from businesses and locals.
It wouldn’t exactly be a great start in my opinion
Told ya !
I heard there looking for a few grand off the pubs to run this years festival.
Dont think there’s any harm in that.
Its now not privately owned and it’s in the best interests of the publicans to keep it going.
Apparently that shop Safura that closed down in Abbey court is reopening, not sure when but they have confirmed they will be. Coincidently the unit they were in was being worked on when I passed a few days ago!
There's a to let sign in the window of the Subway unit. There was some sort of pop-up fashion clothing shop next to that in the square which seems to be closed for ages. It never seems to be open. I think they are part of a fashion shop in Castleisland. Don't know what is the story with it.
There is work going on in the old Counihans shop too
I think that's Dan Counihin extending his orthodontics business from next door. He owns the building anyway.
There's a new womens fashion shop opening in Abbey court. Vila is opening where Safura were (opp Vero Moda). Sign is up, but they are still working on the shop fitout.
I noticed on Instagram that the new hotel that was built next to Sean Ogs is going to be called 'The James'. I saw some work going on in there in the last week or so.
There's also a new Barbers after opening just opposite it, next to Norma Foley's office.
I was chatting to the barber last week. He's looking for staff if you know anyone who can weild a scissors
Thats great to hear about the hotel actually happening. I feared when it looked like nothing happened for months, that somehow it might have lain empty indefinitely.
On another note, Quinlans bar should not have specified an overly ambitious opening date on their window of Spring 2023. Hopefully it'll be open soon. The front facade and woodwork was deteriorating badly when I passed by it recently.
There's serious building work going on around the back of Quinlan's but I would hazard a guess that it won't be finished before the end of this year.
As for the hotel, construction has been continuing on it all the time but at an unbelievably glacial pace. Really don't understand what they're at there at all.
they may want to update their sign in the window...probably to Spring 2024!
Dealz is reopening under the new name of Pepco this Saturday

You beat my to it😁
There seems to be work going in inside the old Vals bar. I passed it today and the side door was open and a van parked along side it. Would be great to see something finally done with the place.
The to let sign seems to also be gone from the New Yorkers unit and the old sign painted over!
Great to hear! Seems to be a pick up in activity around town.
Your man from teach Beag, and the fiddler bar taken over val,s
What's the shortest Mass in Tralee?
Small restless kids etc etc
Incidentally, as posters mention Horans, where was the niteclub? Am I right in thinking it was in the block now fronted by Iceland and the other units, but behind them?
Yes it was behind these. It's now a gym, like Fabric and the Brandon nightclubs!
