Would you have any concern regarding battery degradation?
I was watching a youtube video this morning and it was concerning to see one german guy was experiencing 10% decline after 2 years and I think it was little over 40,000km . I think he had used DC fast charger 35% of all charging up to that point.
I'm in two minds between sticking to my 06 diesel golf I have after selling the nissan xtrail and buying id3.
Can anybody confirm if I see 2020 ID3 model first edition at low mileage is there anything I should be weary about?
I'd like the ID3 to be reliable for next 8 to 10 years. My 06 diesel has given me that, cani expect the same from ID3?
Aye, thanks electricus, i might just try that tomorrow if it goes strange again- it’s in for the update next month and will flag it there- it’s a great machine but this software stuff is a pain- would I swap it for anything ? …the answer is still no which says a lot, but going from the id3 to the MY makes the Tesla look like a very slick machine.
There isn't much really other than ensuring that they have got it upgraded to v3.2 of the software which requires a dealer visit to complete and will ensure you have none of the software issues that you will see mentioned on the internet. Its a free update, but its one less thing for you to have to deal with.
There are some one-off things that various people have had issues with, but by and large the car has been rock solid for owners. No major issues.
The one off's are things like the rear seat latch rattling, charge port door getting stuck, some sensor gremlins (they'd show up on the dash) but I think other than driving the car and ensuring it drives alright not much for you to actually check... tyres, buttons etc!
Battery degradation is relatively high in the first year and then it slows down after that. 5-10% wouldn't be anything to worry about in the ID.3. Mine is coming up on 3yrs and its been hovering at 53-54kWh's (58kWh new) for the last 2yrs now. Its very stable and still getting the same range from it.
I'd like the ID3 to be reliable for next 8 to 10 years. My 06 diesel has given me that, can i expect the same from ID3?
The EV drivetrain (battery, motor, inverter etc) are covered under warranty for 8yrs/160k km's so that's all the reliability you need to know. Everything else is under a 3yr/90k km warranty and after that you're on your own, like an ICE, just that there is very little else to go wrong in an EV so you should be fine.
The ID.3 is a very good car and is VW's Golf so reliability should be very good but it is still a new platform (<3yrs) so there is some element of risk but that goes with any car (ICE or EV).
Yes it does have the travel assist as part of the assistance plus pack . More advanced version of ACC. It does not do auto lane change.

Great that it worked, it’s (another) strange one! I thought it was related to the 3.2 update but you’re on 2.4 so not that.
I generally always use either Google Maps or Waze (sometimes Apple Maps) but was using the internal Navigation because I've got a loaner car with the heads-up display and wanted to see the pretty augmented reality arrows (!).
The heads-up display is cool but loses a lot of its potential value by only working fully with the VW navigation system, which is awkward to use, not well laid-out, and requires client-side updates (rather than the server-side ones all the other navigation apps use).
Incidentally, the loaner also has travel assist, lane assist, park assist, and the panoramic roof, none of which my car has. Of those, the only one I really wish I had are the little lane assist lights on the wing mirrors. That's handy enough. Is there anything else that travel assist adds to ACC other than: 1) car taking control of the steering; 2) car setting off from a stop automatically even if more than 10 seconds have elapsed? The steering thing is a bit of a swizz. If my hands are on the wheel, it's not like it requires great effort or thought to move them the tiny amounts generally required to stay in the lane on a motorway.
Panoramic roof seems to only really have a function for people sitting in the rear seat. I'd only notice it from the driver's seat when the sun is burning my bald head!
Got my ID3 back yesterday with 3.2 update.Took 2.5 days .Originally went in for 5 days but battery was ok. Everythimg went smoothly. Got we connect and plus from shop. We charge was there this morning. Everything working smoothly and happy to see timed charging as i have night rate.
So finally pulled the trigger and ordered a ID 3, I was looking at bigger cars but decided to start small and get a ID 3 for the wife for her short runs to work and around town. It was in stock so arrives in 2 weeks! They kind of gave me a great deal I couldn't say no so just snaped it up.
It was already in silver which I like.
In a true way, I just ordered without even a test drive, Never even driven an electric car so could be interesting for the wife..... Sorry I mean I will get it in the ear all the time from the Mrs if it doesn't work out.
Now to sort out a charger in a couple of weeks :D

I'm surprised the head up display doesn't support navigation with Google Maps as the driver display supports it, I would have thought the head up display could just mirror the directions used from that. It's cool to see but not entirely practical enough to warrant a €900 option.
Driver display supports Google Maps if you're on Android Auto. It supports Apple Maps if you're on CarPlay. It's obviously a thing that both mobile software companies are doing (not supporting the other's app on their devices).
And, actually, the Apple Maps indications on the driver display do also show up in the heads-up display alongside the speed and such. But they don't show in the full augmented reality way that they do with the internal satnav. There you get these groovy arrows that move and look like they are pointing you where you need to turn. It's very flashy but I agree not worth €900 if that's what they're charging and especially not worth it if it doesn't work with my preferred navigation platform.
I saw an ad for a Facelift id3 mentioning a "launch pack" added to the car. Can't find anything one what that is, does anyone have an idea?
Dunno for sure but had a reversing camera,don't think it's official just dealer spesk

Big improvement in brake feel on ID3 with 3.2 software.

One way trip, Fully charged it will do it no problem, I did Dublin cork return last week in cupra born with a 20 min charge at ionity Cashel on way there and way back, think I covered 500kms in the day. Had enough battery to do me for another day or 2 tipping around afterwards too.
I spent a good bit of time at 120+
The question is if it can be done comfortably without stopping to charge- keep us posted soarer and enjoy the pick-up, always a special day getting a new car 👌
What issue did you have before?
I didn't notice any change to brakes with 3.2 update.
Maybe they did a service on yours at the same time and fixed a brake issue or something? Brake fluid change etc.
How do you check software version?
I asked the dealer to have 3.2 installed in the car before collection, and I’d like to check that they did.
If the car is on v3.2 there will be an "ID. Software" tile appear when you click the home button (you might have to swipe to the second screen to see it). You click that and it will display the version you are running.
If you dont see the "ID. Software" tile it means you are on 3.0 or earlier as that tile didn't exist in earlier versions.
Has anyone got the HV battery check done in or around Dublin? Frank Keane sandyford (nee deansgrange) tell me they can't do it.
No service or brake fluid change during 3.2 update. The brake feel when moving from regen to hydraulic was not for the faint hearted in some situation. Definately solved with 3.2. Loads of complaints on many forums about this. VWhad flaged this as been improved with 3.2.
My car is currently getting it done at Joe Duffy on the M50.
I bought ID3 this time last year and it came with 3.0. The dealer told me there would be updates every 3 or 4 months but I am still on 3.0.
Is 3.2 getting rolled out over the air or what is the story with the updates?
The original plan was an OTA 3.2 update, but there were problems for some cars.
There’s also a recall for battery module checks, they update to 3.2 at the same time. You will need to book it with your VW service dept. It usually takes 2 days but they’ll give you a loan car.
