I would not agree with your way of expressing it, but these kind of hearing are not in the public's best interest. On the one hand you have a bunch of politicians who's objective it is to look good and score political points and on the other side you have a bunch of people striving to be as economical with the truth as possible. And no it is not the role of the Comptroller & Auditor General either to detect or investigate fraud. There is no one in the room looking out for the interests of the tax payer.
The reality is that we fully expect fraud to occur, it's why we put all the checks and balances into the system in the first place. And we should be thankful with it is detected, it's when we are not hearing about it we should be concerned, because that does not mean it is not happening, it just means we are not catching it. This seems to have been going on for some while, so we need to know what happened and what needs to be done to prevent it happening again. Kicking some people out, will no doubt make some of the public feel good, but it will do nothing to ensure it will not happen again because the same weaknesses will remain.
Really some of tge dopes so far like Fintan shoukd gave volunteered they’d time to the likes of this Carigy guy.

Unfortunately agree since this is Ireland. People get annoyed at corruption for a while and then move on with no meaningful change occurring. See: Coveney & Zapponegate, Varadkar leaking confidential documents, Golfgate, Niall Collins. Even Bertie can still show up on the airwaves as a trusted political commentator whenever he feels like it.
Fully expect Tubridy to be back at RTE whenever this investigation is concluded.
