Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

I pointed out the 100k was not realistic earlier in the thread. Not sure who or why that number was picked but it seemed it was pulled out and it ran from their
My point was to have a similar wage structure to what other channels are offering. Also if presenters want more money they tie it to advertisements or something like that. A performance bonus based on what advertisements they can bring into RTE.
They shouldn't be buying Ray D'arcy out of a Today FM on stupid money and then he sits on his ass on a huge wage no matter what happens. Forbes told everyone it was for advertisement money on a tv show which they had to cancel very quickly
Give us names and proof please
I can't argue with that but it does go to show that sometimes the presenter makes a difference. And sometimes you have to pay decent money to keep them. I'm not saying that you need to pay mad money for presenters, but talk in this thread of having a pay cap of €100k etc. is just stupid and commercially unrealistic.
All good information but none of it has the underlying numbers to determine if the deal with Renault was good for RTE or good for Renault. Based on what I have seen I suspect that Renault got a very good deal for themselves compared to what they paid.
So as I expected, the 1.6b sounds like a big number but in reality it's not.
RTE should not be loss making is the point, its a combination of poor return on advertisement, low advertisement costs if you as Virgin which is set by RTE, over paid staff and some dodgy transactions.
In defence of Duffy and Darcy, they at least have a bit of persona about them, a bit of character. Not worth what they're paid but put them on the payroll and pay appropriate salary. Give them more hours and there'd be value in them.
Tubridy, no - never convinced.
Joe did that's why he wrote a book about them 😉
Renault were spending high six figures to sponsor the Late Late ( €500,000-€750,000) a year.
since 2014 when they started the late late sponsorship Renault sales in ireland have decreased approx 30%. Renault is 12th most popular car brand in ireland but only has one in top 40 cars sold.
Renault sold 2,656 cars in ireland in 2020. Works out to be €300 per car sold to sponsor the late late.
Toyota as number 1 sold over 13,000 for comparison. Renault sold approx 3600 back in 2014 when it restarted the late late sponsorship.
The 1.6b was over last decade I think. Rte brought in about €160m in commercial revenue in 2021.
rte is loss making so no profit.
the barter account only account for less than 1% of airtime sold in a given year.
What time do we kick off tomorrow and on what channel?
Is this the same piece of land he tried to steal off his neighbour by adverse possesion 15 years ago?
Knowing Pat it's a ruse to stop further developement IMBY;
That's more of an example about how bad Tubs is and how bad 2FM is
When Gerry died they should have closed 2FM at the same time. It was already a dead rubber without the Gerry Ryan show
2FM stuck Tubs into Gerry Ryan's radio slot after his death and listenership dropped by almost 1/3. Sometimes people like certain presenters.
I did think it was interesting to hear Pat Kenny state today he had been nominated to the board of RTE previously by a minister. Isn't the whole point of a ministers nomination so that he can appoint someone external with no conflicts of interest to represent the best interest of the licence/tax payer who is contributing funding to RTE
What benefit is it to the tax payer to have an RTE presenter nominated to the board?
Childer? 3 twins. 😊
Hard to take a lecture from Pompous Pat.
Excellent example of whataboutery.
But how much did it actually cost Renault, for instance, across all of these years to get advertisements, MC at gig etc from RTE.
Like how much did RTE give to Renault to get the advertisement money and at the end of the day who ended up with the better deal? somehow I expect Renault are laughing at the inept RTE management as they walk away with plenty of advertisement, probably preferential advertisement and plenty of free events for higher up to go to.
Like that woman saying 1.6b on advertisement, how the f**k then are RTE constantly running millions at a loss? so what makes up the 1.6b and over what period? how much was profit and how much came in one door and went out a barter account door.
Another entity that needs a powerful spotlight to be shone onto it.
We’re a bit busy at the moment, though
I don’t have to physically count thanks btw, there’s a total displayed on the bottom right hand corner of each post. A cursory glance will show you how many thanks your post has garnered.
Who was I criticizing on the Newstalk Thread? Oh that’s right, NKM clients.
And I never said my radio posts were limited to RTÉ. Nice attempt to deliberately misrepresent though.
Of course all the praise I heaped on Pat Kenny (himself and NKM client btw) as being the best and most professional radio presenter was ignored. Funny that, intriguing even,
Point of correction - I’m still on the radio forum. I’m not by any means the “most banned poster”. I know facts aren’t used often by NKM supporters but please try.
if you’re going to talk about bullying there have been concerted efforts by certain cohorts on radio and lately here to have me silenced. But bullying is ok when it’s directed at me, is that right?
The way RTE is run, the rodents have probably been offered their own 8-part series.
And someone has commissioned "Canteen Rats : The Musical" at a cost of €12m
Noel Kelly represents them.
An Bord Pleanala not following their own rules.
It’s alright, they’re leaving.
There are rats in RTEs canteen!
https://www.irishtimes.com/media/2023/07/10/rte-staff-canteen-closed-over-suspected-rat-infestation/
I didn’t know Pat was such an ardent naturalist.
If Ryan was still doing the late late his first guests when he’d come back would be the canteen rats.
The sway of junkets etc seem unfounded in the current era. Advertisers are concerned with viewership and listenership figures and value for money on advertising spend. A marketing manager is not going to be able to justify spending their budget on national tv and radio without evidence of campaign effectiveness and good value per airtime.
and even then the decision makers in these organisations are not the ones who need freebies of RTE, probably have half a dozen people offering them amazing seats for any rugby or stadium gig
Older people listen to shows. Like the Late Late. Do they care if Tubs is kicked off it? no. They will watch it anyway.
RTE push the message they need to keep these high earners when in reality they don't. It's easier just to pay Tubs what he wants because they don't have to find new people etc. Plus who cares? it seems to be an open book policy in terms of budget. Sh*t hits the fans and go crying to government to bail it out
..
This reminds me of a time long long ago when Mike Murphy had ambitions to get into RTE as a young lad of 19. My uncle was creating road safety adverts on behalf of RTE and one of them featured 19 year old Mike Murphy with my 42 year old mother acting husband and wife. My Dad acted as an angry driver when Mike nearly drive into him in his white Anglia. On the set Mike told my Mum to keep fingers crossed he got into RTE as it was a very good job.
