Maybe “The Producers” would be apt in view of the failure of TSTM, with Ryan performing “Springtime for Hitler and Germany”
i see absolutely nothing wrong in employing family members whatsoever.
did you know in the Arigna Coalmines only family members of existing employees were employed in the event of a vacancy.
the reason being that these family members could be trusted blindly.
i know in my place of work if a vacancy arises I would rather my new colleague to be related to someone I knew already.
otherwise you will have blow-ins coming into the company with new high fallutin ideas.
whenever a new employee starts and they have notions we put them in their place by saying :
”that’s not the way things are done around here”
But we wanted to hear a full breakdown of expenditure on Toy Show Musical and how he justified the wanton waste to the Public Accounts Committee.
I worked in a section of Dublin City Council where there were quite a few inter-staff marriages (having subsequently met at work) but they were always set working in different sub-sections so they very rarely crossed paths in work-time.
You don't really get it do you? The problem is not so much employing family members if they are fit for the job spec.
The problem is when same family members start lining their pockets and conveniently ignoring other family members excesses.
And it really becomes a problem when family members are throwing about and wasting public funding.
Off with them. We can't tolerate abuse like that.
I’ll tell your Aunty Anne you said that.
Reeling In the Years 2020 & 2021 can build to Reeling in the Years 2023 by using clips of Mr Tubridy saying were are all in this together etc before giving the big 2023 reveal that Mr Tubriby was in this for himself at the cost of the rest of us.
Does anyone know if the union will be having a lunchtime demonstration on Tuesday
Philip “check your privilege” Boucher-Hayes’ sister is a regular guest contributor on RTÉ radio.
She’s not, as far as I know, represented by NKM though.
I wonder did PBH check his RTE colleagues privilidge and chastise them when they travelled business class to Japan? I bet he did in his Range Rover.
I thought you were talking about the expert analysts but ya those 2 I would have guessed
Come on lads.....very harsh with the musicals, I have to say...
More suitable would be ...Oliver Twist...
Sure weren't they barely surviving on what they had and just want a "bit" more!!! (Poor guys)
And I'd say there are plenty more twists to come in this one.....😁
Chumbawumba 'Tubthumping' (pardon the pun)
In all fairness politics is rife with nepotism, ever hear of political dynasties. Do political parties select family members for election on the basis of merit them being the best person to represent the electorate? Also ever hear of politicians appointing family members to their constituency offices and as their drivers etc. Obviously a 'nothing burger' as these people are without question always the best person for the job.
As usual politicians consider themselves exceptional characters above reproach and therefore have no moral qualms about operating a 'do as I say and not as I do' principle. Public sector standards must be led from the top or else we end up with what we have in RTE and elsewhere.
And reason why our political and public services are rife with cronyism and not run properly. It reminds of those royal families that kept it in the family because they didn't want to taint the royal bloodline.
man - your wan Geraldine O'Leary has had a great time of it though eh.. and retiring in a few weeks.. grrr.. she'll have the last laugh
No it's not unfair. It comes with the territory I'm afraid. People will also suspect that family members will be subject to favoritism from other family members. People will also suspect family members are less likely to discipline other family members or call them out on corruption. The reason people suspect this is because they're right. Family members will generally treat other family members better than unrelated employees. Do what you want in a farm or some other private enterprise but I want accountability from my tax money.
The EU published a guide on the how to fight nepotism from local authorities. https://rm.coe.int/168097a4e3
Nepotism makes people less likely to work as hard, leads to lower work place satisfaction and is related to workplace corruption. People who complain that "we can't do anything about it" are the reason why we get sub-standard freeloaders like those in RTE.
Who says anything about not giving you an interview? I've worked in 6 other countries and have been in hiring panels where people discussed the negative effects of bringing in someone's wife or husband to the team. You just don't have to hire them. It's not discrimination not hiring someone.
I've worked in family run firms with less nepotism.
She pulled out the auld mental health card the other day at the orieacthas meeting. Probably gutted she didn't do it sooner when she thought like the rest of them they could bluff their way out of the mess.
Will ye be investigating Marty, Tubridy or rte in general?
I wouldn’t bank on that just yet……watch this space.
Another thing that is bugging me.
How can a Chief Financial Officer get a severance package and is replaced by a CFO? On 200k (at least)
Money for nothing !
Edit:
seeing that all RTE expenditure seems to be on the table.
can we get details of how much she got?
On RTE website
Unions at RTÉ today raised questions with management at the broadcaster after the former chief financial officer Breda O'Keeffe told an Oireachtas Committee this week she had received a voluntary exit package from her employer.
Irish Secretary of the National Union of Journalists Seamus Dooley said workers at RTÉ were "demanding clarification" regarding Ms O'Keeffe's exit package as a new chief financial officer had been appointed and there had been "no change to the executive board".
He said there seemed to be an inconsistency to the situation for ordinary staff, some of whom were turned down for packages.
Ms O'Keeffe left RTÉ in March 2020 after 17 years with the organisation and was replaced by the current Chief Financial Officer Richard Collins.
They are not father and son or even related in any way.
Is Ciaran Mullooly related to the Mullooly person on RTE's legal team?
No
That's a remarkably quick definitive answer, less than 60 seconds!!
She can read out showbiz reports like a teenager while people order their chips
She would be about an annoying as she is now
I hear Coveney has a few new musical scripts in development - West Cork Story - La La land - Fiddler On The Board
Will she survive the reshuffle of the board?
If you're going down that road, you may include An Post, ESB, HSE...etc for that family ties check.
