Awesome, then if we do win it also won’t be because of selection beyond the 23. If selection literally doesn’t matter beyond that, then for all we know Farrell is a terrible selector at the back end of the squad. It doesn’t matter anyway so it is impossible to judge.
The same people on here who talk about the sanctity of irish caps are now saying … eh actually it doesn’t matter who we pick anyway. Makes sense.
Provide 3 examples.
Provide three examples of what?
The most likely reason for Ireland not winning the upcoming World Cup will be because we held on to too many of the golden boys after the disgraceful 2019 campaign.
Nostalgia will be our most likely reason.
Which 3 great players from 2019 will Ireland hold onto for this world cup that should not have been?
3 different posters who have said Irish caps are sacred who then said it doesn't matter who Irish caps are given to.
Lol, do your own research.
I hate the internet
Conor Murray should be nowhere near the squad.
The notion that we knew ages ago that an ageing (3rd oldest ever RWC player) and injury-prone player, in the most important position on the pitch, would be calling his own retirement around this World Cup is a shambles.
S.A are blessed with absurd dept and talent. Especially in the front row. They horsed Oz. If anything, our weakness is behing Porter.
I didn't say selection doesn't matter and I sure as hell didn't say anything about sanctity of caps. Let's keep it to what I said and what you said.
I'm the one saying the selection or non-selection of Kleyn over Treadwell doesn't matter.
You're the one taking digs at your own national team coach two months before the tournament over a very peripheral selection.
I'm happy with the side of the argument I'm on, tbh.
Hard to gauge the quality of SA from that match, given how **** Aus were. Thought they looked vulnerable out wide at time, although it took some excellent passing to get around the outside rush. Arendse looked electric on the day.
How can you make that prediction? Let's say Ryan gets suspended or injured. If we lose a game you can be certain plenty of people will be on here saying it was at least partially because we were missing his impact in the 2nd row
FFF, you posted not so long ago that if Kleyn makes the RWC squad for SA you'll admit you know nothing about rugby and leave the forum.
Do you still stand by that statement?
Do you watch much rugby? Conor Murray is easily one of the 3 best scrum halves in Ireland at the moment
He had an excellent 2nd half of the season
Absolutely. I'm a man of my word.
But tbh, the place will be absolutely unbearable with people sticking the knife into Farrell and wishing Ireland to fail so I'd probably bail anyway.
If Kleyn doesn't make it, will anyone on the other side admit that maybe Farrell was right in the first place?
Read what you just sent me.
Now read what I wrote.
Murray was excellent in the 6 nations.
I guess the second you are talking about is Sexton? who is still the best 10 in Ireland and based on performance in last 6 nations the best 10 in Europe.
Ireland have managed to stay at number 1 in the World longer than any NH team in history. That is some achievement and done with this squad. The players are in that squad based on merit.
You shouldn't throw out good players to replay with inferior players because of age.
I edited it now. Maybe you shouldn't be afraid to use the name of our lord saviour. Would make your post more clear.
It's not a stoning offense to say Jehova anymore
To be fair you premised it with "unless an injury list of biblical proportions"
Kleyn wasn't "let go", he just wasn't selected, same as many other players who didn't make the 42 man squad. Jack Carty, Jordan Larmour, James Hume etc.
The players you mentioned all had time in Ireland camp under Farrell. Kleyn didn’t.
I think the point most are making is that Kleyn seemed to do enough, especially this season, to at least deserve a look.
Gotta love the overreaction to posters having a view that Kleyn should have made an Irish training camp.
For those that need it spelt out to them, I want my team to be the best in the world, I want them to win the RWC, I want Farrell to be the best coach in the world.
After clarifying that, I still think Kleyn did enough to have made a few Irish camps this season.
Hopefully posters that accept my view in good faith
Completely agree. Kleyn definitely did enough this season to put himself in the mix. Especially as both Ryan and Henderson do not have great injury profiles.
Which is all fine and well, but you also have to accept that Andy Farrell and Paul o Connell deemed him surplus to requirements and are sticking with the players who have brought us a grand slam and longevity as the number one team in the world.
If we do not win the RWC it will not be because we don't have Jean Kleyn in the team, as you are alluding to above
I love your cairvoyant powers.
It's especially Impressive given your use of vague conditions and double negatives.
What you've basically said is James Ryan and Tadgh Beirne are replaceable with any other 2nd rows and it makes no difference to our chance of winning
You certainly can't mean that Joe McCarthy or Treadwell or Baird are already playing at the same level as Jean Kleyn is and are good enough to step in and hold the line in a RWC knockout game.
Whatever about potential, Kleyn today is a much better player than McCarthy and Treadwell are today, and is much bigger and more powerful than Baird is.
There's truth in what you say. Kleyn had a better season than Treadwell. McCarthy was injured! So there can't be a comparison and besides, he's very highly rated. Baird has improved and is a better athlete.
Kleyn is a good player. I rate him better than Orie, who was very good yesterday. Whatever Kleyn brings, Farrell prefers other options.
On another topic, Oz have a crap front row! Utter shyte. Kitchoff had a field day. Slipper has not ever stood out for me either.
VanStadon looks a tidy player. The boks will be a difficult match for us. Libbock isn't a high quality out half, imo. A great athlete but he's not a typical out half.
I thought Aus did decently in defending the maul against SA. I think Ireland needs to stay aggressive at putting up jumpers to contest on throws.
The South African line out was a little dodgy and Marx usually isn't an improvement in that regard
Talking of second rows, I think Niall Murray is unlucky not to have worked his way into the training squad. Best performing Irish second row across the URC this season backed up by making the URC team of the season (only Irish 2nd row to get in). Only 23 years old so plenty of time to come into his prime.
With McCarthy, Baird, Edogbo and Ahern not to mention some of the U20s coming through, the future looks bright there. Who knows; maybe Dillane will be back in the next few years too.
