Because RTE are lawyered up to the hilt and have an in house legal team every step of the way so far. RTE management have completely shafted Ryan, Dee, and NK and made them the convenient scapegoats. Now RTE are not in control anymore, Tubridy is before the dail commitee, anything could happen at that. I think he dismissed some who came along with their TV licence all paid up-but he did at the end say (I was listening to RTÉ radio this evening) that “the law is still the law”- in other words. what’s happening right now doesn’t mean it allows you not to pay your TV licence.
Saying all of that, a few hundred thousand new people delaying paying their TV licence by a few months would certainly send out a clear message to RTÉ to get its fcking house in order.

Just gather the TV licence via electricity bills. It stops scabs from not paying it, removes the need to bring people to court for non payment, and would be split over 6 payments. Commercial properties would pay more. Seems like a very fair and reasonable solution that could be implemented relatively quickly.
The committee, not PAC, needs to meet and do their homework and get their questions sorted. Mattie and Fitz should be advised to step back or not turn up. They need to be told in no uncertain terms that if they are there they must have structured questions and give the interviewee time to respond. I expect this is beyond them.
The other members will really have to perform. I'm on hols next week and will watch it probably.

I'm not saying NK or RT were not aware of the payments. What I'm saying is that RT was contractually entitled to those payments because Dee Forbes letter stated he wouldn't be getting a pay cut. It certainly looks like there was shennanigans in making it look like Tubs got a pay cut, I'm not arguing that part.
I also don't blame RT or NK for a 'strong pushback' either. None of us would want to take a pay cut. That's just business. It's the alleged hiding of the payments that throws shade on the dealings.

How would that work if someone is on a PAYG meter, or pays the bill at the post office/pay point? Maybe they will add a cent to the rate or something, but that's not fair either. Just wondered.
I would just pay for the energy part of the bill and ignore the license element if I didn't want to pay for the license.

It would just be part of the standing charge that’s applicable to all electricity accounts. Gathered by ESBN and distributed to RTE and other recipients. Would ensure everyone pays their fair share for public service broadcasting.
To get legal advice from them. And probably to keep those who are asking the questions in line.

If they can fine and/or jail us for not paying the licence fee for flip flops and balloons what can we the tax payer do?
Can the public or a public body fine or jail them for mis appropriation/theft of funds?
