What should people not be entitled to legal representation? It's a basic right of anyone. Ireland is a democratic country.
For the TDs next week it's as much about getting their name in the news as anything. Remember that most TDs will have no/minimal legal training ie training that helps solicitors/gardai etc stay within the law when questioning people. Both of them would be crazy not to have legal representation. The only real question for NK has to answer is the use of consulting on his invoices(even on this RTE could/should have rejected these invoices). The fact he got a great deal for RT was him doing his job as an employee representative. RT went and got the best deal he could, nothing illegal about that. The problem is that RTE agreed and paid out on the deal. I accept with Tubridy there is a moral question but thats it.
Any person going into PAC, or anything like that(Garda questioning etc) would be stupid not to have legal advisors with them.
Drop it back in 5 years.
It is 100% prudent to have legal counsel present as nothing illegal happened and it is very difficult to prove a negative.

I'd argue RTE have been a loyal servant of his for neigh on 30 years, giving him a platform to build his public image, giving him opportunity after opportunity and making him the best paid broadcaster in the land for over a decade.
RTE haven't actually said anything of negative note about RT from what I can seen and I am not sure how they could be expected to speak for him in any event. He is only a contractor after all.....
