Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

The story literally would not have broken on its own, it only broke because a question was asked in committee as a result of the Tubridy grubby strokes.
But that doesn't change anything, either he was doing things right or he wasn't.
Sorry, but this has already been done to death on the thread and I've been through it too many times to go through it again.
It still seems a relatively minor issue. If this story had broken on its own without the Tubridy scandal, it would hardly even make the papers.
As per Revenue legislation:
Third party payments, payments in kind and mutual debts
Payments in kind, e.g. goods or services bartered in exchange are also considered to be payments for supplies, valued at their open market prices.
Are u serious? He knew exactly what he was doing and he has thrown multiple colleagues under the bus
How do you get private car insurance without your name on the log buke?
Bit off topic but I like the look of that grass/plants around the RTÉ sign, anyone know what it is or where to get it?
Tbf, and I am not an RT supporter, it was up to Rte to impose the pay cut and they didn't. So while people may rightly claim he's overpaid, it's Rte that paid his current salary
There are far too many red flags for anybody to confidently say it didn't cost RTE anything.
For example, not one person has even tried to answer the question of who has been paying fuel, maintenance, tax and insurance on the car for 5 years? A "free" car used for work purposes by an employee who travels all over the country, the running costs have to be substantial so who was paying for them?
Also, the committee hearings are not about barter accounts, they are about the management of RTE. Any dodgy practices are fair game for investigation.
He used his name to get free use of a car for 6 years and RTE didn't know about it. That's worth 20k to him, unethical to me.
Actual Tears and the mental health card
I guarantee you that
Maybe it has something to do with Marty apologising to everybody as he handed it back?...
“I have apologised to RTÉ, my managers and colleagues for any embarrassment or difficulty I have caused them because of this matter.
“I also apologise to any of our viewers and listeners who may feel let down by my actions.
“It was never my intention to let anyone down, least of all myself.”
The Ballad of Ryan Tubridy
‘In RTE one Wednesday morning
High upon the gallows tree
Ryan Tubridy gave his young life
For the cause of liberty
Just a lad of 50 summers
Yet there's no one can deny
As he walked with Noel Kelly that morning
He proudly held his head on high
Just before he faced the Pac Men
In his plush RTE holding cell
Matty McGrath tortured Tubridy
Just because he would not tell
The names of his brave comrades
About cars and stuff they wished to know
'Turn informer or we'll kill you!'
Ryan Tubridy answered, 'No!'
Another martyr for old Ireland
Another murder for the mob
Who won’t pay their tv licence
A proletariat who should shut their gob
Lads like Ryan are no cowards
From the foe they will not fly
Lads like Tubs will free Ireland
For her sake they'll live and die’
Job done so 😂
I did have a chuckle at your post, sincere chuckle...so well done.
If he hasn't paid tax on the car then yes it does affect the tax payer
No I would prefer the RTE presenters got paid what is released and they pay tax like everyone else.
😂 I was only buzzing. It's the only forum I can remember you posting,
But seriously you need to get your scorecards in order. Some very iffy points awarded on your behalf
Never mind unethical, what he did was illegal. Its called tax evasion.
He MC'd an event "for free", and got paid for it to the tune of a free car for 5 years.
Hence he is now examining his tax affairs.
Can't help but laugh, bravo!
Give us a shout when that breaking news, breaks!
You know as much about current affairs as you do boxing. Going by the way you score rounds you haven't a **** clue.
But Morrissey doesn't appear to have done anything unethical. The loan of a car didn't cost RTE or the licence payer a cent.....I'm not entirely sure how this was even brought up at the committee hearing the other day - it had nothing to do with secret barter accounts or dodgy financial records.
Ban all agents, if you ban NK someone will take his place. No more contracting, you are either RTE staff or you move on.
You're going to be disappointed then.
Sure. Or, he knew he shouldn't have received the car in lieu of payment for services he provided and he thought if he gave it back now nobody would notice.
Unfortunately somebody tipped off Timmy Dooley, who dropped the question in very purposely last minute before his allocated time was up at this week's committee heading.
Dooley then realised he dropped his fellow county man in a heap of bother and is now backtracking trying to say its not a big deal, when he certainly wanted to make a big deal of it and go viral (which happened).
And then Marty's GAA colleague Joe Brolly weighs in to say this isn't a big deal, after making a song and dance about the Tubridy issue.
It all stinks. Marty has been caught. He will get his comeuppance.
So he’s now guilty of tax evasion? Did I miss breaking news? You really really want it to be true, don’t you!
He will be a great asset to all the other TV companies who are chasing his signature. RTE owe him nothing at this stage and should let him off into the great wide World so he can share his excellent skills with the rest of the World
Why have all the other TV presenters with car deal kept their and only Marty, after prompting, went running back with his after 5 years.
Get rid of RT, ban NK from dealing with RTE, and clean house of the executive board - move on with long talks with the workers and the rural Rte workers who were cut from any meaning ful engagement. Put in place rigorous financial regulations/protocols- make laws clear. Salary cap. No more contractors. Employees only
there must be repercussions- there must be standards set
Move on as a national broadcaster
Tax evasion is not "optics"
