Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

I guess the difference is that it looks like Marty has done something wrong. As “unpalatable” as that may be, for someone so universally liked.
Really highlights the importance of letting your agent broker your deals, although we have seen that however the parent company “handles” the payments can wind you up in a mess entirely of their own making.
Can someone not have a second job. Why does it have to be something connected to RTE. Of course it may have been
I'm with you, pal. Lock em' up....a threat to our democracy they are!
Think it was the Secret RTE producer. It may have been mentioned upthread.
Regards...jmcc
Social media is social media. Boards is a discussion forum and part of social media. It's primary function is to discuss topics. You can always log off if you don't like it,
You are actually posting on a thread to complain about people posting on a thread.
Of course it has something to do with RTE. It is standard practice in state bodies, other state broadcasters such as the BBC, private companies that side gigs on this scale need to be declared. A register of interests. It needs to be approved by RTE to ensure there is no conflict of interest. This is not something employees can be determining for themselves.
Lots of questions for Marty Morissey today. I have a feeling there is more to come out.
Naive or a troll. Difficult to know with your posts.
There ya go - not quite as damning and nothing about agents, a good insight all the same
Catherine Martin says she has no advice on paying the licence fee.
Does this mean we can avoid paying it?
Don't think about it too much.
Main issue with the thread is that if you are not fully one way hammering RT and RTE here, you're a troll who is defending RTE and RT. If you present any in between balance or middle-ground, you're a troll, and god forbid if you proclaim this a way OTT witch-hunt, you are in serious trouble here with some folks.
Now folks who aren't ready to hammer Marty into the ground are defenders of corruption and greed etc. Thread is crazy! Some folks are ready to haul poor Marty to the slammer already, before full facts emerge.
Best to just let it flow, and relax.
If an employee gets a free car and has nothing to do with their work, once they declare it to revenue, then it shouldn't have anything to do with RTE. That would be my understanding. Lottie crossed the line as she used RTE building and the RTE name
If they are doing promotional work they should have no reference to RTE, so you couldn't have Renault promoting and event saying "RTE Marty" etc
Of course could be wrong, the code of conduct for RTE staff seems to be irrelevant based on the carry on so hard to point to that on what they should do
I don't think that will stand up in a non jury court alas...
The thing that struck me about the statement that Marty published was how he is trying to put distance between the car loan and his MC work at the event. I would speculate that if the car 'loan' was provided as payment for his MC work, then there would be tax implications.
Instead Marty is categorically stating that he did the MC work for free, and subsequently Renault offered him the use of the car on the back of this. He's clearly trying to distance the two.
Personally, I don't buy it for a second.
This was a commercial event, which Renault was hosting to try and increase brand awareness/sell cars. It was not charity. I can't imagine any reasonable person offering to work at such an event free gratis.
Ring the Gardai and ask them which laws they recommend you can break and which ones you can't
Best place to start
Maybe Catherine Martin has to clarify if we still have to pay the licence fee or not. She didn't seem clear yesterday.
That's not how it works in properly run organisations with rigorous codes of conduct and declarations of interest.
My point was that it should be a concern of RTE's. Now maybe their current code of conduct is a joke.
We don't know if he was introduced as from the Sunday Game or just vague "GAA legend" ... Marty Morrissey.
So we really don't know if, even under their current code of conduct, whether it was violated.
But clearly it should be a concern of RTE. They should have oversight of promotional work on this scale and there should be clear rules and consequences. That doesn't mean such events can't happen, but there needs to be clearance from RTE \ guidelines the likes of Marty are clear they have to follow.
Ian Dempsey has the morning slot and is doing a great job, so why take a 3rd rate radio broadcaster in his place?
If RTÉ have Morrissey present Tubridy’s show it really is a giant middle finger to the Licence payer, which I do pay btw.
It really would be an outrageous display of arrogance and outward contempt if that happens.
100% attention seeking troll.
Some posters on here were very correct with their assumption that it wasn't Marty that Senator Dooley was referring too
Now that you mention it they’ll need succession planning for Dempsey- not at all saying Tubridy could be his replacement- absolutely not by a country mile.
Somebody in RTE without a drivers licence got a car allowance.
The problem is people don't know, and Marty hasn't clarified it. All he said was it was ad hoc. Not sure if you provide an MC service, and receive significant payment, that you can just say it was ad hoc. And if the tax due is BIK, VAT, Gift, etc.
Any time you receive significant payment for a service, a tax is due.
You seem livid, you should go for a walk and clear the head.
The Irish Sun saying a source saying Marty is checking the tax implications. Something to that effect.
So that means he hasn't paid any tax on it from what I can see.
We are looking at you Dustin....
Do folks think Marty should be sacked? Off tv and off radio now?
I’ve repeatedly said that’s not the name I have been given.
It hasn't gone away, you know.
Catherine Martin, even as Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, doesn't have the power to unilaterally revoke legislation. So no, there's no clarification needed.
One of the end results of all of this will likely be the introduction of the compulsory Household Media Charge, possibly at a higher rate than the current €160. RTE (or what's left of it), might get a smaller proportion, but maybe more will be distributed to the BAI's Broadcasting Fund, and TV4 will should get direct funding from it instead of it being funneled though RTE. Currently An Post get 7% for collecting the licence (which amounted to €9.9 million in 2021). I know Revenue previously said they wanted no part of collecting the proposed Household Media Charge, but things have changed dramatically since then.
