Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

No clue. Maybe Renault thought it worthwhile to have Marty drive one of theirs for publicity sake.
If RTE did pay Renault for the car what's the difference other than BIK tax?
Let's see. If he was claiming per KM then he will have a lot of explaining to do as it's linked to wear and tear on the vehicle. Was this the vehicle registered against his claims for example.
I think there is a lot more to this.
And you don't find it any way strange at all that somebody who clearly should have a company car never asked for one, never asked for expenses despite all the travel he does, but instead went off himself and arranged his own free car from one of RTE's big customers? A customer who has already been shown to be open to "off-book solutions".
That doesn't seem anyway strange to you? Not even a little bit?
At a minimum he's not paying tax - VAT on the purchase price of the car, it clearly wasn't disclosed to revenue when he felt the need to apologise and hand it back once it was clear RTE wasn't going to weasel its way out of this mess.
He also took advantage of his position with RTE which brings the organisation into disrepute. Now, we all know RTE did that themselves but there's a lot of issues throughout the organisation from the top down to the presenters at least.
It’ll need a deep clean givin Marty’s reputation with the laaaadies.
And so many folks are hoping you’re wrong here. They’d love it, Kevin Keegan love it to get to hang another!
If he declared the loan of the car as bik to revenue, no problem at all.
If RTE were paying Renault for the car, where is that accounted for? Because that BIK tax is not some minor little detail to be dismissed so lightly, and if they were paying for it then the employee should have been paying BIK for using it.
It's not about money it's about an undeclared conflict of interest. You might say well what conflict is there with a sports presenter, but as we've seen Marty does more work than just sport - didn't he drive around Ireland in a Renault for some show?
In any case, it's not for him to decide if there is a conflict - he needs to declare it to his employer, as the reason he got it is tied directly to his work with RTE.
It's just more evidence if it was needed that RTE was being run to serve the interests of number of insiders there and that the public interest and the "truth" that they harp on about didn't actually feature.
Hello NKM, how long will you keep creating new accounts to come on here and muddy the waters?
A car costs money, either you buy it and then pay for wear and tear etc but get a car allowance to cover business mileage but it certainly isn’t profitable
or you get a company car and pay BIK etc
if you get handed a free car which seems to be undeclared while claiming expenses you are making a profit and bumping up wages
This is rte hiding wages to presenters the same as tubs only a different method. Renault don’t hand out free cars for nothing and the car was returned to rte was it not so it’s an rte car?
Tubs was cash via a dodgy accout to hide from public
this is a car to hide from public which you can count as at least a 25k a car top up on wages if not more if BIK wasn’t been paid
There’s probably a lot more that merits getting worked up over than Marty’s free car. Let’s face it, nothing is “free” in this life- having Marty drive a Renault can’t do Renault car sales much harm - they’ve got their money back and more besides just having him drive around- he clearly knew the deal - but in the overall scheme of things it’s small fry and product placement and promotion is part and parcel of those in the media spotlight- that won’t change radically but it might become more transparent as a result of this enquiry.
Wheras you don't even have an opinion, it seems your only desire is to pop up every couple of hours and proclaim that its all a big witchhunt.
Other boards call that threadshitting.
Little Marty. But he returned it yesterday, so all is okay
Yes. My opinion is that it’s a ridiculously exaggerated hype job. An opinion in case you missed it!😛
Juste like Triggers brush in Only Fools and horses
Perhaps, but, I also think you're doing quite a bit of speculating there too.
Look, it could turn out that it's all as crooked as fuck - but I feel like a lot of these arrangements are common enough and not just in RTE.
Cheers, now nobody has missed it, we all know your opinion.
Lets see how often you repeat it.
Why would he need to pay VAT on it? He didn't buy the car.
VAT is not applicable here.
BIK is what you're after.
You are in the minority. People who work day in day out, earning a wage paying taxes etc this is really really annoying.
At a time when everyone is getting hit from every direction since before covid and some like myself since the crash many years ago, this is just another in a long list of people in the government or tax paid job ripping the system off
Hence why people are annoyed.
I feel as if the RTE Board supporters are out in joyous form on here. Creeping into the posts. In short you all have gone too much into party atmosphere and let the culprits off the hook. The supporters of the board have weened themselves into the debate here and cracked a few jokes as if to say no harm done. A more responsible less raucous tone would have the defendants on the back foot and running for cover. As it is, everyone’s partying and they have joined in as if to say, “Hey we were caught out but none of you are too mad, everyone’s happy”. A sharper rebuke is needed. Too many jokes, not enough disgust.
Well at least you’ve acknowledged my opinion now. Result.
But not Marty, they’d want someone who was pro-mask/vaccine during covid or someone who’s seen as WOKE(all caps).
No one wants to see Marty go down.
He gave the car back the day after Tubridy's payment scandal emerged. In his statement today, he talked about "upon reflection". So he reflected for 24 hours?
In the current context, where RTE are rightly having government reviews ordered into mismanagement and possible fraudulent practices, how can anybody hear the details of yet another non-standard business arrangement and yet still think there is nothing to it?
I'm confused by this car "scandal". Was it any cost to rte?
Based on this article Marty was travelling the country on his Marty Party tour. Now as an RTE employee does not have some complications?
Also during this tour of Ireland was he using his "loaned" car so it was been used to increase his profits on a project outside of his RTE role?
Poor old Marty is up to his neck as far as Tubs
https://www.thesun.ie/tv/10310858/rte-marty-morrissey-stars-salaries-ranks-top-earners/
If MM and others in RTE did no wrong why have they apologised?
The rte board through tubridy, its star player under the bus, and are paying his wages because they don't have a clue whether he is in contract or not. So, they are paying him and his substitute.
It's like Like saipan all over again. Tubridy needs to be on the pitch.
Well the car was supposed to be RTE so thats a new car, probably every year, so 30k a year before we start looking into BIK etc
