To those of you who think Marty did no wrong you are the same as those saying RT did no wrong.

Nobody should be let off the hook.

What organisation in Ireland isn't awash with corruption or deceit?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,616 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

So they still publish the Guide? There's a seven day EPG on Saorview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,727 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

You can't get the latest NKM stable puff piece on EPG.

€38 to attend that shoyte? FOCK ME.

How much is Marty making on these Marty Party events?

How many of these happen throughout the year?

Does he have "permission" to do these?

There ain't no party like a Marty party.

Who thinks that's the first and only free car Marty M ever had?

Do ya think he had an arrangement with another car company prior to 2017?

Is there any point in finding out such things?

I'm leaving myself open to suggestions of being naive or not having a clue - and that might be fair enough, but I don't really understand what's so terrible about what MM did in this instance.

He took a car from Renault after doing engagements for them for a few years in lieu of payment, so he says anyway. He's a GAA commentator, so I don't see the obvious conflict of interest here.

Like, I said, maybe I'm looking at it from too simplistic an angle - but I don't see a whole lot "wrong" as such with what he did?

I apologise if I insulted or shocked anyone with my vulgar dialogue scene of the PAC last night.

This apology does not extend to all involved at the PAC of course.

Ridicule is part of the price of public life and the cost of doing business as dirtbirds and known sh*tehawks.

Especially so as all involved are our servants who we pay handsomely for incompetence.

If there was a spoiler tags option here on Boards.ie like Disqus I would have used that to give you more control.

I, like you all, look forward to a seminal day in Leo’s modern Ireland - Tuesday the 11th July 2023.

(Leo if you are reading this Tuesday would be a very good day to release very bad news or push through a **** bill you ****.)

Renault have been giving cars to Irish celebrities for decades. It's nothing new, whether they're paying BIK is another matter.

TBH apart from the car I never really liked Marty. Something strange about a man fawning over camogie players and ladies gaelic players half his age at post match All Ireland banquets.

Do we need a "Marty Morrissey Pointing Thread" now to go with Tubs' one?

On a quick search, he's equally at home with the "Thumbs Up" pose:

Is there no beginning to his talents?

I work for a body that comes under the DSP. Our manager was retiring after 22 years.

She submitted her expenses to payroll for the last time.

In reply she got an email telling her that as she had not supplied a receipt for one item (€4.99) that she couldn’t be reimbursed for that.

I’m reading all of this and I’m honestly thrilled that our little corner of the public service is run like this and not like RTÉ. I can’t imagine what it must be like wondering if there’s going to be a knock on your door next.

On the take is the same regardless of whether it's €345k in hidden payments or an "open-ended loan" of a car.

That scenario would definitely fit their "I know its not what I said, but I meant was etc etc" narrative.

If they start been honest it will fall to piece

I seen someone using the video from "Wolf of wall street" when the Dad comes in going nuts about all the money spent of food etc as a description of RTE

They are not far wrong. Somehow I think this is another FAS and a lot more government agencies etc are the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

It's been shown in this thread alone that car was featured in RTE programming. There's your conflict right there.

And that's BEFORE we talk about POTENTIAL tax evasion by non-declaration of BIK on this vehicle.

There's a lot wrong with this, sorry.

That’s more the thumbs up than pointing.

    It’s the small things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Expunge

The problem is that as well as being a commentator, he's the Gaelic Games Correspondent in RTE News.

We're hearing how distressed NUJ members are at the moment at how these revelations are making their jobs as impartial journalists harder.

Surely you can see that one of their colleagues taking a bung in the form of a free car, however harmless the circumstances, is a credibility issue for RTEs "flagship" service?

Could she not have put it as "Consultancy"?

    🤣

This 'error of judgement' bullsh1t is getting really annoying. It screams nothing to see here, please dont hate me. Pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,443 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Surely there's a degree of difference though. If everything is "on the take" then one thing is as bad as another and it's hard to objectively view the true nature of things.

I think MM getting a loan of a car from Renault after doing speaking engagements from Renault is pretty small beans stuff, if it's even anything at all, next to hundreds and thousands of public money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭ZookeeperDub

Is it f**k mild. It's the same. Underhanded dodgy deals to bump up wages so they keep wages up. Who gets a free car for 5 years on a loan? I bet it was on a loan so he didn't pay BIK. He was probably get his car allowance of 25k plus all the mileage over that time

If he offering to pay any of it back or just drop the car, release a few words in a statement and carry on as usual?

"it didn't cost the license payer a cent overall" well we probably paid his car allowance. Plus the tax he would of had to pay to buy his own car etc.

    So yes it certainly did.

i have to ask...is there anyone in rte actually NOT on the take of some kind?

yo! donnie vonredactedpants, vlad putin, benji netanyahu, vic orban..you sirs are the skidmarks on the jocks of humanity!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭claregal1

I used to work for a section which came under CHO 3 umbrella.

All managers used to travel to different offices in the same car and each one claimed mileage. One of those managers is now head of the HSE.

So Anto steals something worth a €50 from on Brown Thomas but it’s ok because Dee stole a handbag worth €4,0000? Nope, that’s not how it works.

I think people are letting their fondness for MM colour their judgement here in a big way,

Make no mistake about it, what MM did was wrong. Just because “it’s not as wrong as what Tubs did” doesn’t excuse it.
