Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

so why are you here instead of fixing the big issues? are you going to fix them by lecturing everyone?
Hardly surprising very few people paid to go see the musical, if the producers allow such "talent" make it on to the TV show
some of them should be dragged in front of the media committee 😋
Be interesting to see what kind of yarn Tubridy and Kelly have concocted.
I know they're only kids and trying their best but the standard of talent on the toy show is woeful.
I didn’t say they sponsored the show. I said they sponsored toys for it
Her linkedin says she studied psychology in UCC from 1975-1979 so she's probably 65-66 now.
Well you have to say that the brand of the Toy Show clearly wasn't as big as people in RTE thinks as the musical flopped.
My view is that this is because if there is a charge for RTE shows in general, people wouldn't pay for them because the attitude is that RTE is rubbish.
Moya Doherty looks like a Batman villan.
Who's paying for all the glasses?
Did they say they were going off air or it just cut out?
They should do it on the set of the Toy Show Musical, get some use out of it.
From what I know she can now "retire" from RTE but probably pop up in the private sector.
Or more common you might find these people rock up into the local "charity" to do some fundraising while flying around the World to event s
No idea as I didn't see but has good "whataboutary"
I work in the public sector, and the scale of waste and free-for-all spending I have seen throughout my career on the likes of buildings and services would make you weep. In the case of my particular job, it's happening right now on a fairly epic scale - I won't go into detail, but in the last 10 years there must have been millions poured down the drain.
All the while, we (staff) have to account for every single minute/claim/hour of overtime (not that I'm complaining, that's how it should be).
It reminds me of buying a cake - you go to buy a fancy cake, it's €50 please. You go to buy the same cake, but say it's a wedding cake - suddenly it's €100.
They must see the OPW coming, and just triple the figures.
It's so depressing, I've just stopped thinking about it mostly.
Have to concede SF members are always excellent performers on committees and Munster is no exception. They are especially brilliant at invoking outrage and dramatising revealations to full effect (and have a well oiled publicity machine poised to immediately promote their effectiveness) . I fully concede all that with genuine admiration and would hold out hope that a SF government would go a long way towards rooting out corruption in many facets of Irish society and governance.
BUT, I would equally have concerns about SF's long proven ability to slot their own people into all sorts of areas of influence and power and I wonder would it have the effect of just changing the people feeding at the trough? There is a lot of payback due for people who have dedicated their entire lives to the "struggle" and minor paybacks like free printer cartridges or paid community activist positions for ex prisoners mightn't be sufficient to cut the mustard for a lot of party faithful whenever SF get into power.
Corporate hospitality is all well and good for private entities with private money but what the likes of GoL and fellow travellers need to be reminded is that when a euro lands in RTE accounts - Commercial side or otherwise, it ceases to be private money. RTE is a State company, all its money is the publics money.
Given all the RTE largesse, I'm wondering what other gifts aside from cars RTE people have been receiving. Were ad agencies throwing parties and holidays at executives too in order to get better rates for clients?
Is brendan griffins outrage fake as well?
did they change the format of the show to singing and dancing so that they could then try a create a musical out of it?
This is a very good point. Under Tubbers the Toy show became less about the toys, and more about the performances..... so with the benefit of hindsight it totally looks like they wanted to shoehorn it down the musical/variety show route
Radio one is off air .
She's retiring from the RTE gig, will more than likely resurface somewhere else, people at that level always move around
They do pay. The TV license
The musical has nothing to do with the actual TV Show apart from the name
The tv rating for the toy show tells us all we need to know.
I think one of the problems is that RTE provided a lot of the requested information and documents very late and the TDs didn't have enough time to agree their lines of questioning. Brendan Griffin did a great job when first up but he probably stole questions from others. The PAC will have more time to digest the financial info and utterances yesterday and agree a strategy.
Is O'Leary going to pull the plug on her appearances I wonder? And how is she retiring so young? Maybe I have her age wrong.
It was a toy show once upon a time, kids and parents watched it to get ideas re gifts and a bit of craic.
Then it morphed into the ToyMan show and all the palaver with it. Now the ToyMan has become RTE's Icarus, crashing to earth in a ball of flames.
Got our TV licence renewal notice recently. Will I pay it? Like bloody hell will I until clarity is brought to this disgraceful wanton waste of public monies. We need to see sensible spending and value in RTE before stumping up.
It's not that GOL brought her husband as a +1 to these events that's the issue, it's why these events were attended in the first place.
I would argue the opposite.
I've never been involved in marketing/selling/commercial, but I can absolutely see how the schmoozing/treating/perks are part of the whole set up.
And a +1 for the person you're schmoozing may or may not be part of that.
A +1 for the person doing the schmoozing - feck right off! That's just perks for the boys (girl in this case) because they can, and they think no-one will notice.
I'd agree with a few other posters who said this is the type of thing that starts small, and then you kinda get used to it, and then it's just normal.
The Toy Show has been ruined, not that it was ever great but it was more about Tubridy getting to live out some fantasy of being the star in a musical or something and less about the toys. My own daughter, who is 8, sat down to watch it last Christmas and during the show she says why all the singing and dancing. Looking at what has come out in the Oireacthas did they change the format of the show to singing and dancing so that they could then try a create a musical out of it?
The failure of the musical makes my point - people wouldn't pay for the Toy Show.
If his name was on it he would be entitled to image rights when it was going to become the World Wide success it was always going to be....making tubs a billionaire and a household name across the World
That would be the deluded thoughts from RTE and Tubs
NK and Tubs to appear before the PAC in public session next Tuesday afternoon.
Oireachtas TV goes box office!
It's called a discussion forum?
I bet tubridy pushed hard for the musical but Noel wouldn’t let him be put his name on it
