The committees are interesting but these, like tomorrow will likely descend into a showtrial.
While it's extremely entertaining to see RTE finally getting a well deserved comeuppance, I don't think it's an entirely fair way to get to the truth either.
In any case RTE is completely fucked now. A complete reorg was on the cards but looks like it's nailed on now.
Doireann Garrihy, the 2FM DJ, TV presenter and comedian, was the RTÉ presenter with the most external corporate work over the last two years.
Barter accounts and the ESB are the least of our worries....the wages in it are genuinely insane.

Catherine Martin very very soft on RTE, how were those review panels chosen? also an attempt by the cabinet to push this controversy out into the long grass and close the book on it to an extent, Michael D very quite too given that he loves to weigh into other things. Basically the establishment is trying to tone down any measures they are going to deal with RTE.
The Dail committees though sense blood and are going after RTE, the new revelations that there were other barter accounts is going to keep this controversy alive

Perjury has to be done on purpose so essentially (e) means that he had to give false evidence on purpose. Genuine mistakes wouldn't be false evidence. It'll be up to the State to prove the told lies on purpose. He will claim he was mistaken or didn't know about the other accounts.
And on second thoughts, was the CFO asked if there were any more Barter accounts? I don't think he was.
If they want to save some money they should cancel that too!

What's coming out is nothing short of fraudulent use of tax payers money.
Whatever about resigning there needs to be repercussions for the players involved. Sailing off into the sunset with full Defined Benefit pension entitlements will leave an extremely sour taste.
Whilst corporate governance reviews can take place (and should so) it's obvious what the outcome will be - poor culture, insufficient controls etc...
People should be held accountable where appropriate for the situation the organisation is currently in.

Alan AK-47 Kelly will be gobsmacked at these new revelations. He only asked for details for the one barter account for 20 years. I'll have to tune in Thursday. I can see a bunch of resignations before the next round of Dail committees so they don't have to attend.

It's disgusting that this is being drip fed from the RTE board. It's now hard to have any trust whatsoever in any information they provide.
I recall Sharon Ni Bhealan was annoyed a few years ago she wasn't being paid as much as Bryan Dobson. She wanted more money.
Those arrangements suit RTE too. No holiday pay etc.

It's probably a typically insignificant committee that is packed full of the political duds of the Dail. Mattie McGrath, Marie Sherlock, Niamh Smyth and many more.
I'd imagine it is a crime to lie to an Oireachtas committee but it's difficult to prove someone told a lie. The CFO could say that he was mistaken or that someone gave him the wrong number of Barter Accounts.
I'm not trying to cover for the CFO by the way, just stating that just because someone says something that isn't true, that doesn't mean that they are lying.
No. The actors came up with this self employed via a company for tax reasons. It's got nothing to do with RTE letting them go or making them redundant.
In fact the "stars" RTE are paying are not working for any other channels or any other shows. They are RTE employees just using multiple loop holes to screw the tax payers etc.
You are aware that at the moment Tubs has no contract and is still getting paid by RTE? they have crazy rights with RTE anyway. The loop holes been used is benefitting the actors and nobody else. RTE are just stupid enough they have let them away with it for years
Maybe he thought funds would come out of his barter account for it.
