Is that not one of the reason that RTE uses the services of self-employed people so they don't have to make people redundant and then re-hire them for more programmes? RTE would be crazy to employ every actor or presenter as a full time staffer with all the rights and costs that goes with that.
I am no fan of any of the 'talent' and can take them or leave them but our media reports and public representatives need to stop talking about the salaries / pay / wages of the 'talent'. All those people are self employed, are free to work on other projects outside of RTE just the same as any other self-employed person can pick and choose the work they want and set the price they want to charge. If the customer agrees to the price and T's & C's, there is a contract for those services. If one party wants to vary the contract, the other party must agree.
Not saying for a minute that I agree with the amount that the 'talent' charge RTE for their services, but if RTE wanted to change Tub's contract back in 2012 and he didn't agree, they should have come up with a different solution to bridge the money gap instead of telling Tub's agent to raise false invoices to the UK barter company. Whoever came up with that mad scheme needs to hold their hand up.
