Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Same vibe as the forensic accountant id say...
He is coining it but he has a staff to pay as well. Its not all into his back pocket.
Historically, these type of agents would have to sweeten up important people within organisations to get their people onto the gravy train. Not suggesting at all that this was happening within rte.
Its a complete mess. Weak governance and also a succession of weak governments who turned a blind eye.
The whole company is just a gravy train for a small clique, many of them NKM clients, with us mostly picking up the tab.
There's no need for her at all. If there is actually a demand for celebrity/social media content surely the researchers could have the information to the very-highly paid presenters of the shows Lottie is shoehorned into?
So we are overpaying for "talent" so NK can get their cut...68k off tubs alone a year...53k off joe duffy...39k off claie byrne....jesus wept
Years ago as a young marketeer/promoter I organised plenty of such events and benefitted from positive publicity by both local journos and RTE personalities, so am very familar with how successful such efforts are. However, as someone now in employment within the public sector, who regularly gets reminder emails about declaration and propriety about receiving gifts or endorsements and all the restrictions around same, there is a case for a very thorough investigation into endorsements and freebies enjoyed by public service broadcasters and their requirement to make a full disclosure/declaration of same on an annual basis.
It was mentioned here previously, as one example, about RT's frequently expressed on air wish to visit Iceland and after a while, lo and behold, he's away on an undoubtedly fully funded junket, masquerading as work. And on a lesser level, just the week before he went off air he was broadcasting from Connemara listing out all the places he had to go after the show, including a, no doubt, free fishing trip. All this stuff should be declared with a monetary value attached in the interests of full transparency.
I once was presented with a considerable value voucher for my on air endorsement of a certain restaurant, but I was too embarrased to use it, or milk the benefits that I could potentially have wrought out of my endorsement had I the neck to do so. Seems that makes me a very different creature to lots of these folk (or maybe just a fool!).
Would she fall under the top 100 paid with 95k so we might not see it, which if true is scandalous, her job could be done by a transition year student on work placement, and thats with the greatest of respect to transition year students on work placement
Small money when you consider that 'Paul' from Fair City is on €4,500 per week and is currently suing RTE claiming that he's entitled to a contract of indefinite duration. Two other Fair City actors are chasing RTE for the same thing.
Call off the search! We've found the biggest p*ss take of all!!
95k base
It was mentioned alright, not sure if it was confirmed.
15% of the salary of all the presenters he represents is a significant sum.
Did I see 15% mentioned somewhere?
I don't know the rate but yep, that's how it works.
Anyone know what NK charge, probably a % of any rate agreed which automatically pushes up the price as they want their cut..like football agents
You’re always going to have press launches & free tickets to events. That’s just the cheapest way of promoting awareness of anything and for many events (and particularly small and low budget ones) it’s effectively done at no cost. They often have tons of surplus capacity. So you’ll get batches of free tickets going out. That’s hardly unusual. Often press passes are just open to any legitimate journalist who wants to cover it. It shouldn’t mean the journalist feels they can’t slate the event or be very critical though. They’re being invited to see it. That should be all. The most obnoxious theatre critics often have free seats!
The issues that stand out to me are where RTE was allegedly purchasing lavish corporate entertainment and using their (our public) resources to do that.
Also particularly for news and current affairs, you should have a very robust policy in place to prevent bias caused by accepting freebies. I think in RTE’s case that needs to extend to a lot of their output beyond current affairs though. Gifts over a nominal value beyond maybe a tenner can be refused or transparently donated to charity.
Transparency and freedom from commercially induced bias is extremely important, especially for a PSB.
I think most light entertainment, freelance type of broadcasters wouldn't have a clue about finance or how to conduct negotiations on their own behalf. That's why Kelly became such a successful agent. He saw a niche and is obviously good at the wheeling and dealing. I presume there are others doing the same job but are far lesser known than NK.
I'd be concerned about the influence that gambling companies could bring to bear on sporting remit of a public service broadcasting organisation. This is another can of worms yet to be fully opened and exposed, especially when one considers the amount of online gambling advertising (Not to mention in program references) that RTE carries (so much of it portrayed as glamorous and social and fun e.g The really creepy one featuring the Green man) and the almost fanatical focus on odds and supposed tips over above all else by "sporting broadcasters" when it comes to the likes of Cheltenham and the Galway races (no doubt complimented by the amount of junkets enjoyed to such events!)
I imagine online secretive gambling by all classes is wreaking nearly as much, if not more, havoc in Irish homes at the moment than alcohol, yet RTE conveniently and consistently sweeps this issue under the carpet, such is the revenue it generates.
totally. Journalists afraid of not getting the invite to the next social occassion where all the local blow hards gather
Local journalism is gone too. None of them question anyone. Too close to the people being interviewed, know them socially
The local journos want free tickets to the next event - that’s how ireland works
I can well imagine it. The ones I am talking about are so full of themselves and no so called journalist would question them. They lick up to them on local radio
News, current affairs and sport should be separate and come from licence fee.
The rest goes into a commercial division that has to at a minimum break even, no licence fee towards it.
That's the only way forward.
I have no interest in paying towards operation transformation or dancing with the z Listers. No point trying to spend money appealing to a younger audience on this muck, the younger people are never going to watch rte.
This is the rapper from the virgin shoe. He is far more likeable than RT. That wouldn't be hard
The media are obsessed with chatgpt because they see it as direct competition for their jobs. They talk about it endlessly. Robotics has been around for a long time but it still hasn't made big inroads into manufacturing due to the difficulty and expense in getting robots to successfully replace humans. Only for repetitive ,predicable high end manufacturing have robots replaced humans.
Yet with chatgpt media output can easily be replicated by technology and this is scary
Re the arts festivals etc looking for volunteers -
I’ve seen with my own eyes these “arts administrators” on big money treating the volunteers like absolute slaves - roaring and shouting at often young idealistic ppl giving them dogs abuse
In most sectors you have to pay good money to get good people. Now paying good money doesn't mean you'll always get good staff but capping the salaries for most senior management at a low rate will rule out an awful lot of skilled people who are good at their job. Go trawl most of the top Companies in Ireland and you'll find not many CFO's are on €100k a year. The average is €183k and ranges from about €130k to €275k. Some sites have the top range about €300k.
By the way, it might surprise you that the top people in the Civil Service can earn €250k or more. The article below is a year old so maybe now they are on even more money by now.
Secondly, you say agents aren't needed. Many people in the showbiz/entertainment/sporting world would disagree.
I think you might be misunderstanding what agents do? Agents don't really advise their clients regarding questions that they ask the people they interview. They are there to find work for and to negotiate the best deal for their clients. If I was in the showbiz game, I'd hire an agent.
How do agents advertise products? They don't. They get their clients (famous people) to do it, i.e. they find work for their clients.
Review will examine agent fees and a forensic accountant to be in place in August.
A lot of arts organisations where the top people have big salaries from local authorities funding look for volunteers too. You'd want to be some eejit to volunteer to make them rich. Some cannot see past the pr smile they get or their photo in local paper.
A smaller, leaner, more focused RTE would make a lot of sense.
Ireland needs a strong and independent PSB, but that does not mean the expensive, bloated and totally directionless mid-20th century circus we have at the moment.
Money needs to be getting to a wide array of programme makers and the measure of success should be quality of output.
Pr bs is all it is in my opinion
