I was surprised at the thrive allright, it must be three weeks since they weren't eating stemmy grass, I couldn't keep it right this year. the weaned ewes have a lot of stemmy paddocks now to clean out, I was afraid to top during the drought.. Our weaning weight usually averages 30 - 32 so was well pleased yesterday.. There's 12 to go tomorrow over 43kgs
How do you find lambs do after taking them off the meal when they have only been getting it for a few weeks?
Were they on meal at all?
I gave them .25kg /day for 3 weeks from 24th april to mid may through the Advantage feeder, They were very scoury during the wet weather,
They hadn't worms so went with meal and it dried them up. It wasn't a straight forward year for lambs, we had to dose for coccidiosis which we never had before.
I'm going to give them .5kg/day now after weaning, grass is very sttemmy, it'd be a pity to check them now
They did very well dispite the setbacks...
When u have the advantage feeder. Why wouldn’t you give them a grain all the way along. .25 kg b worth more a month ago than .5 now ?
I wouldn't be feeding them now only the grass quality is so poor, I'd usually just let them grow now and get a good response to meal in a months time.
We'll be weighing every two weeks now so we'll see what the response to the .5kg is like
Are garlic buckets any way effective at keeping flies off ewes?
I will be weaning the lambs this week at average age of 13 weeks and was wondering if it is worthwhile putting garlic buckets with the ewes to help reduce risk of spreading mastitis with flies.
Do the garlic buckets contain much energy as I don’t want the ewes getting too much while on restricted diet while being weaned?

handled a few lambs today. Happy with how they look as a bunch in general. Weighed a few of the heavier ones. They were weighing well but handling a bit poor
What are lads paying for clik this year? Is it gone up like everything else? Got mine shorn the 1st of June so better do something with them soon I suppose

Can a ewe suffer from orf twice in her life time? Have ewes and lambs with it here now. Not suffering bad at all really. It’s not the worst time of year for them to have it. Didn’t have a ewe suffer with it on the farm now for a good number of years. But wondering will all those affected now be ok going forward?
Anyone on here know anything about baltinglass mart? Just an hour ish away from me and Saturday suits..I've never sold there before so was wondering can I just appear with lambs and be ok to sell..I tried ringing and e mail but no response . Any insight appreciated
I think they develop an immunity once they get it once..couldn't swear to it though
Yea you can. Not the best run mart or maybe most efficient is a better word but it is fine. Just make yourself known to manager if your intend buying . If you’re selling they will just set you up on their system when you come in with your papers.

How much do people charge for mobile sheep dipping. I've 250 ewes and 350 lambs a half hour drive from our yard and wondering would a mobile dipper be worth getting
Not to buy, just to get someone in to dip ewes and lambs, I'd have help with me
I used to charge a euro a head this time of year. Dip was a good bit cheaper then so I'd imagine if could be up to 1.50 a head now.
