The king is dead, long live the king.
Only 102 days to lights out for 2023..
I repeat, it's greed of the existing teams. They prefer 1/10 share over 1/11 of the revenue. I hope for the sake of the sport that at least 1 team is added to the grid though.
It is greed, but teams need to be making money or they go bust. Aston Martin would not exist only for Stroll baling out Force India. With the budget cap, things should now be more sustainable and there should be room for 2 more teams.
When Stefano Domilicani was asked about this on Beyond the Grid recently, this is what he had to say.
TC: How many teams do you think should be on a Formula 1 grid?
SD: This is a very interesting question, Tom, because there are legal implications of what we can say. I think that ten teams are more than enough to create the show and the attention that we want to see on the track. There is an evaluation going on today that involves the FIA and us to make the right call for the future. This is something that is also connected to the future discussion that will happen with the renewal of the Concorde Agreement that is expiring by the end of 2025. In the past, there were teams that were coming in, getting out with a zero value. Now the teams are stable, very profitable and capable of being competitive on the track. In the next months it will be a very important point of discussion that we need to tackle. Do we stick with 10, do we need to have more teams?
TC: But with your promoters’ hat on, would you like to see more than 20 cars?
SD: No, I don't think so. You see, if you have two cars or two drivers fighting, the level of attention is mega. So if you already have two teams fighting, it's just incredible. Can you imagine 20 cars, ten teams, at the level where there is a competition on the track? It would be impressive. I would say let's wait and see. My ‘no’ is not against someone who wants to come in. I need to clarify that, because otherwise it seems that I want to be protectionist. That is not the case. I want to see the right one and I need to also respect the ones that have invested in the last period because we forget too quickly, the respect, and now everyone wants to jump in the coach that is very fast. But we need to be prudent, we need to take the right decisions.
Looks like AlphaTauri is getting rebranded again next year with new sponsors. They will also use more Red Bull parts where the rules allow.
Oh yeah? Any word on who will sponsor it? Os it within the red bull family like toro Rosso and Alpha Tauri or external?
I read the same article, seems like it is all a work in progress, but there could be a new title sponsor. I remember hearing there was one rumoured before but I can't find that article, will look around to try find it.
If its a non-red bull title sponsorship, surely that's the end of red bull owning the team, right?
No. In the same way Red Bull have been "Oracle Red Bull Racing" and even "Aston Martin Red Bull Racing", Alpha Tauri can be "Rolex Scuderia Alpha Tauri" or something similar without changing owners.
Nah Force India went totally bust.
Stroll just bought up the remnants of the team same as Brawn buying the remains of Honda.
Bit of a spoiled brat about this, Verstappen called him on it as well, he is bang on.
“A lot of things are unfair in life so we just have to deal with it.”
He also told Sky: “We weren’t talking about that when he was winning his championships, right? So I don’t think we should now.
“It’s normal of course [that] people behind us say these kinds of things, but they should also not forget when they were winning how it was looking.”
You'd never have heard this from him when he was winning of course.
I wonder will Perez be one of those parts 😐️
Hopefully Ricciardo can grab a seat following a good Silverstone test. Hope he gets a good run in the dry.
I would be happy if Ricciardo could pull himself together and earn a seat. On the other hand, he's 33 now. He might just be past his best.
He never really lived up to the hype. He beat Vettel early in his career which was probably the high point. But vettel had far more bad days than good from that point on anyway. He was beaten by a young and inexperienced Verstappen and he never really performed well at Renault or McLaren again either.
He might just be a driver who showed promise, was really good for a couple of years and went off the boil, end of story. Could-have-beens are very romantic characters. Kubica is a classic example.
I think that's a slightly harsh assessment.
Verstappen gained the upper hand towards the end, but they were quite evenly matched. No small feat given how good Max has turned out to be. He didn't have any problem beating his team mates at Renault so I don't see how you could say he didn't perform there. McLaren was the first place where he was objectively poor.
Sad news, used to hear him on the BBC a lot. RIP.
Fair play Lance Stroll...
15:20 into this video. He basically made the comment to dodge out of answering for his race.
Rubbish
A victory in Silverstone for Red Bull and they will equal McLarens record for consecutive victories of 11. They could also beat Mercedes record of 19 victories in a season the way they are going.
just seen footage of Van T’Hoffs crash. Not going to link it for obvious reasons but holy f**k!!
From what I've seen it was fairly similar to Huberts crash.
Any of you heading to Silverstone for next weekends race?
Aston Martin not making any friends on the grid today 😂
I saw reporters say that the investigation into the penalties and associated change to final order was already underway when Aston appealed, so it was going to happen anyway.
With all the whinging Norris, Hamilton and the other drivers done during the race about track limits you wouldn't blame Aston Martin for doing the same
McLaren have changed their profile picture on twitter to a shiny looking version of the logo, and then tweeted this:
Looks like they might be doing a retro 00's livery for Silverstone, the chrome looking one...
Oh wait, they've actually tweeted the livery in full. It's very underwhelming, the orange ruins it.
oh please be like a silver arrow, teasing Merc. Chrome on cars is quite heavy though!
That mclaren livery is beyond underwhelming, jesus
Saying Papaya orange doesn't suit McLaren is like saying yellow doesn't suit Jordan. It's 7up green or nothing.
