Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Because the contractor or his agent asked for more money?
Does this really need to be answered?
Maybe Tubs asked for a pay rise or didn't want a pay cut and RTE were trying to figure out ways to get him more money. That's on RTE, not Tubbs.
Fcuked if I'd be happy taking a pay cut and before I joined the public service I would have regularly asked for pay rises.
Again, nothing wrong with any of that.
If my boss asks me whether I would like to earn an extra few euro - I certainly would accept and I would feel great within myself knowing I was highly regarded within the organisation.
any poster here would willingly take the extra few euro being offered.
Nothing wrong in getting an increase in salary for a job very well done
As I said.
I go to work to earn money. I dont want to "change" companies.
If thats what they're interested in then......
It is when you know the only way they can do it is through dirty deeds.
Because your pay is published.
And facilitate that deception with false invoices.
A fairly arrogant one??
Absolutenly not.
RTE should have went and came up with a business case to increase his salary or told him he wasn't getting it.
RTE should be in control here.
RTE shouldn't have bowed to the request, RTE shouldn't have buried it in the slush fund, but RT and NK knew full well that is was going to be kept "off the books". Equals complicit
Only way for Tubs to half rescue his tattered reputation is to hand back the money, end of story.
He was way overpaid as he was, even without the secret money.
100,000 or maybe 150,000 is plenty for the highest earners in RTE: we are only a small country. If they do not want that, they can F*** off and there are plenty more who will do the job.
How was it found if it was 'off the books'?
As I said. It's not RT's or NK's business how the money is paid.
It's RTE's.
RTE designed it.
RTE paid it out
RTE put out false income.
RTE are at fault.
It depends. If your employer comes back to you and says
“limnam. I’ve had to lie to some other employees and tell them that we can’t afford to pay them their Christmas bonus and that they are going to have to take a pay cut in order to give you your raise, but that’s what I’ve done. So I’m happy to tell you you’ve got that raise. Congrats!
Of course I’m going to have to be…creative… with the accounts so that the shareholders don’t see that you’re being paid more. They probably wouldn’t be pleased. But it will all be legal I just need you to understand that your pay rise needs to be…kept quiet… if you understand.”
And you stand there and say “yeah that’s fine. Where do I sign”. Then, yes, you are complicit.
And the publicly saying you'd taken a pay cut. Wouldn't that be a lie?
50% is commercial income and tickets for Rugby / CL would be standard practice in business .
The core issue is RTE being both public and private .
Blind eyes could look at me and see the truth.
Lil Wayne
Then give him the pay cut and have done with it.
No need to come with up any backdoors.
RTE need to grow a pair of balls.
We are talking about complicity in the scheme and people don't think it is relevant why the scheme was needed in the first place?
Pay cuts announced across the company, Tubridy himself pontificating about taking a paycut while in the background RTE were skirting illegality trying to find ways to give him more money, and people want to pretend Tubridy was just a lucky beneficiary? That he was not in fact the root cause of the entire grubby little stroke? That he and his representative were not the origins of all this?
Its bizarre that people want to downplay Tubridys role in all this. Call the **** spade a spade lads.
Ever hear the saying 'If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys'?
You mightn't consider €100k to €150k peanuts, but a lot of talented, highly qualified people would consider that money peanuts. You'd have a load of people leaving RTE (and not just presenters) and the organisation would be in a jock.
The fact is that good people cost money, and if don't pay the going rate, you won't get them.
Is buying them through a slush fund charging 35% commission normal ?
The barter account was deliberately excluded from audits until the new CFO insisted it be included, i.e., it was kept secret.
Did I read somewhere that some new IFRS standard came in from Jan 2022? Maybe the way things were recorded/recognised changed from 2022 and that's how the auditors picked it up back in March when they were doing the audit. If they went back to previous years after that discovery then it would cause more questions. Maybe...
Any accountants on here know?
I hear he is a nice man
T. Wogan and G. Ryan were amongst those cited as examples - so I suppose that means we're looking at the BBC and Death as being competitors for RTE talent! He was a little out of control, mummy will definitely be having a word with him over the weekend ;-)
What I would like to know about the tickets that were bought for the CL Final, the rugby WC etc, were these bought by Rte so they could say to the likes of Renault, Hyundai, Supervalu etc "buy some advertising with us and we'll give you free tickets", or were they bought for that purpose and just used by rte top brass and their families.
If I walk into a furniture shop and see a sofa on sale with a price tag of €1000 and it is now for sale at €750
Last week I know that same sofa was there with a price tag of €750.
in the meantime - a new price tag with €1000 is attached to the sofa with a reduction of €250
now - please do not tell me that this is not ok
RTE paid big bucks and still got a monkey imo.
We would all like to know this. Public money.
yes I heard that myself, Anton was defending paying "star" salaries because they bring audience figures, he used the analogy that Gerry Ryans audience figures fell off a cliff when he died, he was replaced by non other than Ryan Tubridy, of course Anton must have realised the big hole in his argument because Tubridy did not get a pay reduction on losing G Ryan's audience, that period was actually Ryan getting his peak salary. He didn't like it when Mullan told him he was simply wrong and kept talking over him and then cut him off completely. So the media smugness and arrogance is not just within RTE and Anton is obviously trying to get himself into RTE. I think all those journo types are now really afraid that the whole rug has been pulled out from under their little cartel thats been in existence for the guts of 30 years now
They were not 'bought ' through the Barter Account - the term used was 'charged against ' - which is probably on the right side of correct treatment.
The 35% in relation to tickets ?
It wasn't really a secret though if it was managed by the commercial department and they decided what went through the barter exchange company (Astus UK, both a customer and a supplier to RTE). Those deals didn't go through the regular RTE systems, just the broker fees - and this is just my take on it, could be wrong here. The way those transactions need to be recorded may have changed from Jan2022, again, not sure.
Edit - maybe IFRS15 rules about non-cash consideration?
