I know nothing about barter companies, but I would assume that their role is to negotiate and then assign values to, eg the bathroom refurbished and the electrician. Say the bathroom guy says his work would approximate €15000 and the electrician says her work is worth €13000, then either the bathroom guy agrees to do a simpler job or the electrician agrees to wire up a car charger in addition. And the barter company asks each for half the commission of 10% (€750) each. Of course a different scenario when dealing with a broadcaster, agency and talent!
Tubs extra payments may well be the tip of the iceberg and yes the cause is the big question. People are rightly annoyed at the flippant use of public money and the seemingly endless jollies the senior RTE folk enjoyed for years. It was clear early in the thread that people had strong opinions on Tubs, and as he's totally blamed others for the mess he's in now, maybe they're right. He was slap bang in the middle of it after all. I can take him or leave him personally and the real bit for me was how RTE managed the extra payments and the barter account that everyone else seemed to understand 😢. That must impact more than just Tubs.
