Seems my understanding of the barter mechanics might be right (I'm sure others understood it earlier / last week). I suppose if the rte crowd and other articles described it correctly, ie that it's a Company (Astus UK) and not an internal account in RTE's books, then it might have been a bit clearer to me😣😣😣

Anton Savage lost the run of himself this morning and cut-off Senator Ronan Mullen live on air. The cause: Mullen, who has been campaigning to cap RTE salaries since 2019, would not agree with Anton that the market demands higher fees to prevent the talent from walking. Dempsey left Montrose in acrimonious circumstances after a disagreement with the then DG Helen Shaw and has had a grievance against RTE ever since so his views on Tubridy and Darcy should be taken with a pinch of salt. Joining Today FM was not an upward step on the career ladder for him.

I go to work to earn money for my family and I.
I enter negotiations with the employer and I expect the employer to deliver on any contract entered into. It's none of of my colleagues business what the contract is or how much I earn or how the company delivers it.
I don't tell them what % bonus I get on a given year as they get the hump when they hear anyone else got more. Same for yearly salary review or any discussion on base wages. I don't expect others to tell me what they get and I don't talk about mine.
If that makes me a pr|ck so be it. If that makes me morally corrupt. guilty.
You need to keep in mind it's not RT's responsibility to declare his income. It's RTE's. There's no legal requirement for RT to declare his income to anyone bar revenue.
If I don't like what my employer is willing to pay me. I go somewhere else. If RTE's staff are not happy. They should go somewhere else.

The lady on the Colm O'Mongain show is very good and direct. She said the RTE governance and culture is like something out of the 1970s.
As far as I'm aware there's no issues with RT's company and revenue. If that comes to light I'll be the first to be on here hammering him.
There's also no evidence that RT or NK requested that the salary was to be supplemented through flush funds.
The head of coperate said that she advised NK on how to invoice the slush fund. RTE.
RTE said that they were looking into the market for corp deals and it was RTE who reached out to Renault. not RT or NK.
