I see the the usual suspects are rounding on Callan, intriguing.
For those who don’t know, Callan is not with NK.
There’s also been allegations made about him on the Tubridy and the Callan’s Kicks pages that he has a pro-Sinn Féin bias in his show. Considering one of the people he mimics most is Mary Lou McDonald, this is a bit of a stretch, but it’s made on a weekly basis.
When Callan filled in for Tubridy he was a breath of fresh air to the slot. Genuinely cheerful and upbeat, he was prepared for the show (not reading cue cards for the first time), and he had a much more natural and altogether better rapport with guests. Crucially for a morning light entertainment show, there was also an absence of death, cancer, and misery.
It was a much better and smoother show as a result and a far more enjoyable way to spend 53mins than with the incumbent.
It’s also intriguing that Callan’s biggest detractors are by coincidence Tubridy’s biggest supporters.

I am now --- Up to Date. Read a load of pages this morning. We seem to be going around in circles in much of it. Still a lot of unanswered questions especially on why Tubridy or NK would refuse to go in front of PAC if they did nothing wrong? I would be very willing to appear if I felt that way and was getting slated as if I had.

Whatever about RT not attending there's a huge number of reasons why NK should attend....each reason works in RTE and his failure to attend could be the death knell for agents being recognised by RTE into the future...something Siun referred to on Wednesday at PAC about engaging with agents.
NK not attending is not an option IMHO.
Are you under some impression that if Tubs left ALL of the viewers and advertising money would vanish? That there would be none of either for the new host?
If I understand the mechanics right as I posted earlier, RTE sells ad slots to Astus the barter company and they are offset against flights, tickets etc supplied by the barter company. Both transactions are in the barter Company's books (astus uk). Astus uk also charge membership fees and huge broker fees to rte.
Think these deals were outside the RTE finance, sales and procurement system as the Astus deals were managed by geraldine o'leary commercial department.
Thats just my take on it & I may have it all wrong..

But for RTE executives, losing Tubridy would create work and uncertainty for them. New presenter. They could be a minor impact on ratings etc.
The €75,000 is a I don't want the hassle of switching right now payment.
Is RT not attending? He simply has to. Not doing so would be even more damaging than his attendance.

It would be great to calculate how much that 9-7 slot cost on presenter's fees alone on radio one vs newstalk, the difference would be what the ordinary Joe is being asked to pick up for in the license fee.

Exactly right about the traceability of the money system. Everything tightened up after the crash and it seems that barter exchange companies/facilitators have become a multi billion sector since.
So this is why they pedal the illusion that these stars need high wages to keep the rotten culture going of inflated wages and living it large at the expense of others. No one wanted to call a halt to the party as it were. It's more convenient to use the excuse of incompetence/ ignorance. Which would probably get you fired in a lot of private sector companies.
