The RTE staff at the protest were all NUJ members. There is lots of staff in RTE that are not NUJ members such as canteen workers, researchers and I.T. Staff.
Possibly when exchanging goods and services. For money it would just make no sense to use one. We really need an answer as to why this practice was in use. It is potentially fraudulent if the intent was to transfer money out of the organisation without proper sign off or approval.

As far as I know, they have to be "invited" first, and if they decline the invite, they can be compelled to attend.
Can Forbes be compelled so? I'm not so sure that someone working in the private sector can be compelled to attend the Committee or PAC. I suspect legally that would not be the case.
I'd imagine NKM, RTE, RT and all the other goons are hoping the Horse Racing Ireland story is even bigger than this.
I have no doubt NKM are complete chancers but I also think RT was pushing them for payrises and other benefits. That's what you do with your agent. I am positive he told them he didn't want a paycut and that he was more important than ever during Covid and that they needed to tell RTE that he would be headhunted etc etc.
They are not going elsewhere because they have a nice cosy number with NKM and Im sure he is giving the decision makers plenty of freebies as well to keep the money rolling in.
Poor Lottie gets an awful bashing but in all honesty rightly so. The list of people above are they been paid all that much? you do need some household names and they probably do have the ability to attract money via commercials etc. The problem is the main stars are massively overpaid but the organisation from top to bottom seems to be massively overpaid.
It's also the waste around the entire company. Everything takes 5 attempts to get correct because they employ the mate of a mate philosophy. Have for years. Stories of the entire 2FM staff booking into an expensive hotel beside RTE because maybe a storm might happen, the storm didn't but they spent the night on free food and beer waiting for it. That alone probably cost 20k or more?
It's just a pig from top to bottom. Hiring Grant Thornton or Deloitte to cover up for them is not working either.

Duffy actually made the argument on his show a few days ago that nobody wanted to sponsor Liveline because of all the companies that he had brought to account over the years in the interests of public service. Total nonsense of course and I don't think he even believed that. But clearly this is a line his friends at NKM had formulated in advance of negotiations for his fees. I now believe that the RTE executive team were stupid enough to believe it.

What I'm worried about are the calls to shut down RTE. I don't like it all the time, it's presenters are biased at times, but to shut it down entirely is dangerous. We can see this from the media landscape in the US and the UK where the whole media landscape is dominated by a half dozen or so individuals. They can decide elections, rile people up against each other, start wars and more.
Be careful what you wish for. RTE needs to be changed and updated, not abolised.
Considering the behaviour of RTE during the pandemic I would suggest they are already as bad as anything in the US, they acted as a propaganda wing of the government every bit as much as a FOX news would.
RTE doesn't need to be changed and updated, it needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
