Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

I was just using your post as an opportunity to vent as she came on air and, once again, I switch to anything else (usually Lyric).
The main difference between Andrea and Joe (IMO) is that Andrea is trying her best but is out of her depth. Mr Duffy on the other hand is lazy and is phoning it in (so to speak!).
Duffy and Darcy salaries are two of the universe’s biggest mysteries.
Why don't they just cancel the Ryan Tubridy show?
...
Probably because they seem to have no fcking idea if he has a contract or not or how even pay roll can pay him/stop paying him without one.
You couldn't make it up. As someone else said if this was France montrose be smoking this morning
Hell we should even pay for the taxi fare up to tv3 in Ballymount.
The NKM lockout of the "talent" is a serious problem across Irish media.
There's a correspondent on another national talk station who started popping up several time a day (on nearly every show) a few years ago. I queried why this had started happening with someone who works there and was told that they had signed with NKM and this was part of the deal. Because NKM represent so many people they can dictate who works when as a package deal. Talent is not really a driving factor.
It's like the "Now that's what I call music" albums, where the record labels make them stick on a few rando label artist tracks that need pushing if they want to have the hits.
I bet he ain't laughing now.... Oh, how the mighty have fallen
With all the kick backs that these advertisers got from RTE, with all the expenses for RTE etc for running these events
Did RTE ever actually make a profit from selling to advertisers? or was it just an excuse to get a company onto the books and they got paid back in free events paid by tax payers?
Would ya ever make up your mind! One minute you’re telling us that it’s all a storm in a teacup and sure isn’t Ryan grand and poor old Dee not feeling well. Next that the competition in RTÉ is overpaid.
Quite. Has there ever been such a fall from grace in Irish media? And so bloody quick too.
im sure there’s an account for that 😂
And why is it still called The Ryan Tubridy show???
Media Committee seeking to invite RTE’s former DG Noel Curran, ex-chair Moya Doherty and ex-CFO Breda O’Keeffe next Wednesday, as well as the same RTÉ reps who attended this week.
Ryan Tubridy and Noel Kelly to be invited in at a later date, but committee believes it needs to establish further information from officials who were in charge at the time
Based on a 250k-ish contract a year for the radio, he's receiving 5k a week or 1k a day, or rather 1k for 1 hour on air. Except he isn't on air, and he's off air because of shenanigans from his agent which he must take responsibility for.
He should be shown the door and told never come back, in any other organization he would be, but not dysfunctional RTE who never show top "talent" the door.
Hi everyone here,
I was really enjoying watching the meeting yesterday but I had to do something and missed the last 30 mins or so...
Is there a link to watch a replay of yesterdays meeting between PAC and RTE as I'd love to watch the rest of it... (I googled but could not find anything)
Thanks in advance
If they show him the door he will be paid fully and could sue for unfair dismissal. :)
You would be absolutely stone mad to turn up on an "invite".
If I were any of the above I would go near the PAC / Committee.
The next news story will break soon enough and I'd imagine Tubs and NKM are hoping it's huge. The likes of a terror attack in the States or EU big.
You would get 2/3 very good radio presenters for what Joe Duffy is paid. You about get about 8 for the sum of his and Tubridys pay.
It's madness when you stand back. We are an absolutely tiny country with a tiny population. There is no real competition to RTE. The salaries are absolutely ridiculous.
Some of these guys salaries dwarf those of presenters in the BBC (a country with about 15 times the population and audience reach RTE has)
It's stupid, bite the bullet, pay off existing contracts for those who acted within the law, redundancies where necessary, restructure the organization and start again under a new brand is the way to go.
Give some of our talented youth a chance in our media.

Thats assuming he has a contract, which no one in RTE seems to be able to confirm.
Exactly and as good an example as any. If this is going on, smacks of one tax law for individuals and another for business. Now I run a small business and well familiar with writing off cost of inputs against turnover. That’s normal and perfectly legitimate where inputs and purchases are business related and paid for normally. As soon as I heard the term ‘barter account’, the first thing that crossed my mind was tax avoidance.
Tax avoidance is legal but morally dodgy. Tax evasion is illegal and I’d guess that’s what Varadkar is pointing towards.
He has no contract. He has a verbal agreement that a new contract will be negotiated. That's about it. New evidence has come to light that shows him/his agent acted in very bad faith and clearly against the best interests of RTE in collusion with the former DG. That imo is more than enough for instant dismissal, contract or not. There is also a question mark over fraudulent practices related to the tripartate agreement in how it was concealed from the board.
There is no way the board would have signed off on these payments to Tubridy if they knew all the facts.
according to this article 119 staff earned between 100,000 and 250,000 in 2022, this excludes the top 10 earners and those on above 250k. The total wage bill was 123 million euros in 2022. From those figures the average wage bill was around 68,000 euros per year for all 1800 staff. On that basis RTE staff are paid as much as the ESB who are the highest paid semi state employees but are way more important than RTE. RTE are not fixing power lines in driving wind and rain in the middle of January
It's live TV now. It's taxpayers now. Nothing is making this go away. If you don't show up you might get away it but you've admitted your guilt to the public.
Make my mind up? Does anyone think Ray and Joe are good broadcasters?
as regards this affair and investigation, yes, they’re making quite a meal ouha it all. Lotta grandstanding and box ticking and posturing. No idea what people think will come of it all.
you unable to separate the two above?
But surely the tax implications would have been less than the Barter Account fees. That's what I can't get my head around.
I think it was more to do with trying to conceal the payments.
Miles better than Tubridy anyway, but not worth the money they’re on either.
Not so sure about that. Whilst I think it will be hard for Tubridy to work again in the near future I do think this will be forgotten about in years to come like a lot of other scandals.
No they are a con job. Disgusting money and a poor return. All Darcy does is lecture us on our diets and cuts people off mid sentence to finish it for them. Duffy sounds like he is riding the mic.
