Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

100% Forbes warned NK and RT.
Well if there is a misappropriation of public funds then it is a criminal offence is it not?
I wonder will Kielty pull out of TLLS ? I’m sure it’s crossed his mind. It will be a challenge for him to do well with all that’s going on that’s for sure
Probably glad of the work
I was always under the impression that the advertisers did the wining and dining to try and secure more favourable rates/slots? Why is it the other way around at Rté? Especially when they almost have a monopoly on the airwaves.
The RTE board deserve to be ridiculed after the way they have behaved. NKM and RT are no better either.
There’d have to be some detail/context to it to make it a criminal offence.
Money placed in a slush fund for "expenses" would be one to start with - Alan Kelly asked for the books on it going back 20 years, will make interesting reading
They don't call him Machine Gun Kelly for nothing.
NK pens them himself (or supervised minion to do so), all written in exact same style, then handed as filler to junior “journalists” as filler for a wee sum or in exchange for something.
I don't know some of those RTE execs seem to think they can turn up and wing it. And if they put on a show for camera they will still be in jobs.
The only two RTE acting execs I believed were Anne O'Leary and Robert Shortt. The rest of them seemed to be in various stages of bluffing/bluster.
Apparently, Tommy Tiernan, Maia Dunphy, Richard Curran & Baz Ashmawy are paid by independent production companies who then provide finished programmes to RTE. So, their pay transactions won't be on the 100 list. Couple of NK clients in there.
I can't recall every having a completed garda investigation into this type of thing that ever resulted in a criminal charge let alone a criminal conviction. If it didn't happen within our banking crisis, the FAS debacle or the FAI debacle, it won't happen now either.
Not saying that its right that people get away with questionable behaviour scott free, it's just difficult to much in this country with these types of things.
Yes.
Here are 2 possible internationally recognised criminal offences that might have happened in this instance:
1. False invoicing https://guide.iacrc.org/potential-scheme-false-inflated-and-duplicate-invoices/
2. Conspiracy to defraud
Will have to check if these are offences in Irish criminal law (they should be) but if false invoices were issued from the UK, the UK police might be interested.
I agree was almost said by Collins only after he was pressed for his opinion, so he would be left in peace for a few minutes.
Most people who have gone through difficult times can understand & empathise with being ‘money-hungry’. I’ve been there, done that & am still wearing the tee-shirt. Ryan Tubridy came from a privileged family. Professional parents. Private school education. When I think back to his patronising broadcasts at the beginning of Covid - urging us all (the great unwashed) to ‘be kind’, telling us ‘We’re all in this together’ my blood boils. He was laughing up his sleeve at us. Zero fcuk did he give. ‘I’m all right Jack - keep your hands offa my stack’. The whole sorry saga reminds me of the clerical abuse debacle. Men standing on pedestals high above everybody else, wagging their fingers, saying sex before marriage was a sin, all the while riding everything in sight, including children. Ryan Tubridy, on his pedestal in Montrose, telling us to pull together, be kind, bullshit bullshit bullshit, laughing all the way to the bank. Sickens my arse. And as for RTE’s treatment of Dee Forbes? They circled the wagons, built a big bonfire & threw her on top of it. I’m not a Dee Forbes fan, but Jesus, they threw her under a big bus. RTE will forever be tainted in my book after this. May-Fayners the lot of them. Mo náire thú.
I never made any point justifying their behavior or performance or stated any belief in them at any point. I simply said the criticism is justified but it's better than not showing up like DF, RT, and NK.
The payment to NKM through the UK seems to fall squarely under your bulletin point #1
The 200 k was huge as he was not doing his job. He was asleep at the wheel.
In any company there is only 2-3 people that can counter the power of a CEO( in this case a DG). One is a CFO who has reports going directly to the board of the company, another is the audit/compliance executive.
Where these are nodding dogs to the CEO it allows the CEO to go rogue.
The board is not absolved either. It should definitely have more scrunity that it seemed to have.
That has to be done away with. It's a sneaky way of hiding wages.
And funny how he seemed to know a lot about the barter account but not anything of significance like what it was being used for, the fees charged, where the money was going etc - you would think a CFO would have even a miniscule understanding of the workings of a system funnelling millions of euros within the business
He is up to his oxters in it. How can he know a lot about the barter account except what is was used for and how it was used. I wasn't born yesterday.
I never liked Ryan, always found him cringey as F. On the tv his second question would always be so tell us about your Irish roots. Recently had stars on from breaking bad but just couldn’t watch. This crap his says about be kind and mind each other. I do like Patrick so I’d watched him. Scandalous the money all those presenters on rte are getting, if his back on the radio I will go mad out of principle, I don’t listen to radio. How much do the men and women who do be up working in rte first thing in the mornings make, joke. Like how does joe Duffy make the morning his on answering phone calls from people raving for a half hour about how they can’t afford to buy food but have enough money to talk to joe.
There's a touch of John Delaney about the whole thing.
The executive board were clearly not doing their job. A lot of dodgy practices going on, when you would expect them to be providing oversight and asking questions about where money was going.
The story that Tubridy and his agent were refusing to accept a pay cut at one point is mind boggling. The DG and the board should have been facing him down and insisting on it.
Heard that odd "mmm" sound when I was watching Prime Time and thought there was a Bluebottle flying around.
Regards...jmcc
The law seems cut and dried on this.
Forbes misrepresented payments to Tubridy as consultency fees to NKM. She did this to the CFO and Grant Thorntan.
Maybe I picked this up wrong, but I understood the sequence of events to be:
- DG/Commercial Director made the payment to NK with reference Consultantly Fees in 2020/21 ish, can't remember the time
- Deloitte found these transactions during the audit and asked the CFO about them.
- He didn't know, so asked Dee Forbes, and she gave that explanation which he passed back to Deloitte.
- Deloitte were not happy with the explanation and brought it to the attention of the Audit and Risk director, who then engaged Grant Thornton to investigate.
There was never any payments made to NK for Consultancy Fees, they were actually because RTE had underwritten the commercial agreement and needed to pay it from somewhere. The consultantany fees thing was just the excuse she came up with when it was found by the auditors.
Happens to a lot of full time contractors really , they’re happy out getting paid but the client hates paperwork
was this barter account at nil at the end of every reporting period or how was it missed prior?
That was my understanding as well.
