Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

RTE is another FAI but the figures are going to be so much bigger.
What is it with grubby entitled gombeens in this country. We produce them en masse. They can't help themselves.
Why would a UK company be paying tax on being invoiced by NK. It would NK/RT's tax liability on being paid from the barter exchange.
Fraud is what the little people do, ie a single staff member.
Deceit is what the big people do, ie the Board.
Often its hard to tell the difference.
Funny, as the "other" collins used to be a director in Dunnes stores.
:D :D :D
No no no.
He's a VERY smart guy. :)
I thought Collins said that when he joined rte he was unhappy when he heard about the barter account and insisted it be included as part of the audit.
Think just saying Mattie McGrath is enough :)
Alan Kelly says..
Exactly those being questioned have their arses well covered.
Ah that's ok it wasn't a Renault. 😀
And they all end up in companies that a funded by the tax payer.
The bit I got was that he was 'uncomfortable' about it but yet he constantly accepted it because the DG 'signed off' on it.
Such a strong CFO.
someone else said it was grand so I said grand.
Fraud. Surely illegal.
I'm watching this on delay. So Tubridy doesn't have a contract at the mo. So subsume the Tubridy show into Claire Byrnes show and have it 3 hours long like Pat Kennys Newstalk show and she doesn't get a penny extra cause shes way overpaid anyway. Problem solved. RTE save a fortune cause they dont have to pay Tubridy anymore.
I thought it was Anne O Leary Audit and Risk (lady with black hair) as opposed to Geraldine the Commercial Director..
Deloitte alerted her in an udit report about 2 invoices of €75000 each. She alerted the DG ( who knew already) and hired Grant Thornton to audit that report.
She did her job.
The disclosure that the CFO thought that the two 75,000 euro payments for Kelly was a "consultancy fee on how to structure RTE during covid, and how to deal with agents" was the biggest shocker for me.
Seems this guy was the real one running the shop, and they let him do anything he wanted
"How to deal with agents" Jesus christ, We are continuously told he's the main agent for all the "talent" anyways, so why did they think this ludicrous demand warranted a 5 euro payment, let alone 75,000.
Whole thing stinks to high heaven.
How come the committee don't have access to the board meeting minutes, they are asking questions like "was it discussed at the meeting back in 2017"? They should have all the meeting minutes and know exactly who attended and what exactly was discussed. They don't seem to have access to any of the documentation. They are only asking for bits and pieces at today's meeting.
One of them asked for the credits notes from the barter account. You need the full transactions details going back at least 10 years for everything in that account. Stop messing with this bit and that bit, get the whole thing and see exactly who was benefitting and for god's sake will someone check to see if the UK barter company has links to anyone in RTE. 35-40% fees is not in line with usual fees.
The CFO and the Commercial Director will never work again. 81K on a jolly to Japan. Why does the commercial director of a state funded broadcaster need to go to Japan for work?
The PAC members did a great job today. Lets hope when armed with all the documentation by next week they finish the job. I think there may be a few sick notes for next week.....
I would say modern day there would be no need to take the laptops/desktops as IT would have copies of all email and network documents from those involved in contract negotiation/sign off and finance. Mobile phones would be problematic to have internal backups of SMS/call data/WhatsApp etc so would need to be seized, the staff could just be given a fresh phone with their existing SIM to continue working.
Going by what we have seen the last 2 days Anne O'Leary is the only one that seems to have done her job as soon as she found out about it. Was she asked if she discussed this with the DG and what was the DG's response to her about it?
Nope. Not ordinary employees. Only select few on the commercial side and their family members, directors, clients they wanted to schmooze and others they wanted to get on side.
Did you not see Robert Shortt speaking on behalf of the general news and other workers of RTE?
He said the joke was a perk for them was getting a copy of the RTE guide, and not the Christmas edition!
Anyone got a summary of what happened today?, thread has way too many new pages to keep up :)
So he got to Director in Dunnes Stores because of nepotism and then into RTE as CFO because of nepotism?
Before passing out advice best to understand what you are talking about first because you don't seem to understand nepotism.
Tubs and Lottie Ryan are an excellent example of nepotism. Two people who have managed to do nothing outside of RTE and got hired into RTE because of their family in the first place.
Anyway, as you had no idea about him working anywhere else till I pointed you in the right direction it is clear to me that you don't understand what the situation is. It's great what knowledge someone has once they are told what to look for
Same as yesterday!! Just more lying
Just in from work. I take it more has come out, junkets to the Champions League and RWC. The slush fund. The Siun lady admitting deception.
Think he's retired and plays a bit of golf :)
I genuinely have no idea at this stage.
They said y'day his radio and tv contract was done...but he still had a radio contract so was still being paid I am pretty sure....but open to correction.
You can't follow a simple conversation.
Your original point was he's a liar.
My point was he comes across to me someone who's more a long the lines of someones who's incompetent than a liar.
(I'm not sticking up for him. He could very well be telling us a heap of fibs)
Your claim is you cannot become a CFO and be incompetent. This is just naive.
I suggest that's a bit rich for someone working in an organization known for nepotism.
In turn, it happens he's never worked anywhere as a CFO previously. That seems a bit odd to me for an organization such as RTE.
The fact he was a director in Dunnes doesn't state much for his competence. After many years in many companies big and small. Competent Directors especially in Ireland tends to be a rarity.
So yes, he may have got his job in RTE through a friend/ex colleague etc.
He may have reached director level in Dunnes while also being incompetent.
Try and stay focused
Ok I take that point. I still think this would never have been discovered only he insisted the barter account was included in the audit. He wasn't there when the 275k was spent in 2019.
700 households in Ireland paid 166 euro each in one year so these gangsters could have their fun around the world
Ahh wouldn't want that to be fair.
But fess up., do your job and get out if you can't.
