Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Tubs does a max 9 months per year - always has at least 3 months off. The LLS is not on for 9 months so many months Tubs is putting in just 5 hours a week.
Thanks, that's very interesting.
Might be doing it as a new career angle. Bit of experience and the UK or US talk show market could be an option.
Hopefully the PAC will focus more on "tri-partite" or parallel arrangements whereby RTE has a sponsorship/advertising agreement with an organisation and there is a parallel agreement with one of the RTE stars spearheading the advertising campaign. These stars can effectively exploit their roles at RTE to generate their own advertising income and legally keep these earnings entirely off the RTE books. It wouldn't be acceptable anymore, I think, for RTE to assert that any such parallel arrangements between the "talent" and RTE's sponsors directly has nothing to do with them.
There was a significant sponsorship deal between RTE and Failte Ireland over a longer period. For 6 years in a row between 2014 and 2019 The Ryan Tubridy Show was used as a vehicle to promote the Wild Atlantic Way. As well as broadcasting the radio show from locations on the Wild Atlantic Way Tubridy made several personal appearances at tourist locations promoted by Failte Ireland. I always assumed that this type of work would already have been covered by Tubridy's significant salary/fees from RTE and everything that Failte Ireland paid would have gone directly to RTE. This may be the case, but now this will need to be confirmed in my view.
Now in my opinion, that is being underpaid compared to the other salaries.
Much bigger and better entertainer than Tubridy.
I think Kielty will have a right to feel hoodwinked. Execs knew exactly the shitstorm that was coming and made sure he was out on a comparably lowish salary.
Is that the case, so if I give time volunteering or whatever I can get a receipt from the charity or organisation and then get that value deducted off my tax bill, are you sure about that?
According to Kielty's statement, he's able to claim flight and accommodation costs from RTE as part of his contract, but he's already agreed not to claim these costs (he lives in LA if I remember right), and asked RTE to offset carbon costs from his flights.
I just can't listen to Brendan. His accent grates on me. 'C'mer to me now'.
Do I recall correctly the time when Tubridy, Gaybo and Pat Kenny were on LLS all together, think it was time of Gerry Ryan’s death? I just remember having a great impression at how much superior the older hosts were to Tubridy.
Just about. Not happy with pay to the likes of Duffy, etc.
RTE is a loss making company, so why reward people involved in this loss making? And there's a lot of talented younger presenters who rarely get the top jobs.
The average age of RTE TV presenters must be quite high.
I don't think I entirely agree with you TBH. I'd say after Pat Kenny's departure John Kenny held the fort in that slot fairly admirably til RT's return without much if any loss of listenership. Equally whilst Oliver Callan isn't entirely my cup of tea, the reality is there is a considerably element of stickiness or band lethargy when it comes to changing channels although I so despise Ray Darcy that I always switch over to Sean Moncrief (or local radio or Spotify) after Liveline (and sometimes during Liveline) and I've frequently found myself switching to Newstalk during boring segments of RT/Claire Byrne and a lot for Ronan Collins and latterly Louise Duffy (Who I imagine by and large has managed to retain RC's Light Entertainment listenership!) But all in all I'd say I'm fairly representative of many regular "middle Ireland" RTE listeners reluctance towards much channel changing
Where do you think those stories come from??????
They come from NKM!!!!
like anyone in a new Job, give them a shot..if crap, finished.
The toyman didn't even do a probation for the role.
So people seem ok with Kielty getting a quarter of a million?
Yeh because reading out researched questions to someone flogging a book, saying one for everyone in the audience, and asking every overseas guest about their Irish connections is a talent.
Maybe Patrick K could interview Tubs on his first episode of the Late Late ?
I definitely seem to remember Gaybo and Pat Kenny interviewing each other at various points.
The insanity doesn't stop there.
What about Brendan O'Connor for 4 hours weekly on radio?
2020 payment: E238K
2021 payment: E245K
I don't think Kielty has had a decent job in a long time. He was out of the loop in the UK. But i could be wrong on that. No interest in the man.
Hahahh at the end of the day , they are defo all mates , Noel Kelly ,RT and Dee Forbes/Rte Board. That is the essence of why we got absolutely shafted.
Imo that's almost a bigger scandal and deserves as much coverage.
Its another way of getting money to RTE stars under the table.
Well done Patrick K..
hope the rest of the gravy train gang are sweating..
I hope he sticks with it and makes the other top 10 work for their fat pay cheque
I'm amazed they could even get a new presenter for a paltry 250k.
I had thought the market rate was more like 500k and that's just what you need to pay for talent.
Not sure how rte valued each job he was doing, but he was getting 500k for the LLS and the radio gig, so if Kielty is getting 250k now for the LLS, I'm just doing the maths.
Weird sub pages still up.
News to me cheers, I haven't had to tender for anything in a while.
It's time to totally do away with RTÉ. It has not kept up with the times.
I doubt many people actually watch TV any more, when there is netfilx, youtube, amazon prime etc etc available. Why would anyone listen to the radio when we have spotify etc?
Cut them loose Bruce. let them create a fully commercial streaming service, or even a youtube channel. We'll know for sure then exactly how much RTÉ 'Talent' is really worth.
The only reason RTÉ exists is because politicians can use it.
Absolutely, surprised Kielty is still taking up the job knowing Tubs was on a much larger wedge.
Tubs radio gig was just 5hrs work a week?!
And he was getting €250k alone for that? Insane!
I can only imagine Kieltys is a paltry 250k because those bastids of course new at this stage about this shitstorm
IMO the loyalty to the presenter is greater when it comes to light entertainment. The transition between presenters is pretty smooth when it comes to current affairs or Liveline, as the listener's experience remains much the same, but personal taste is a bigger factor for the easy listening stuff. RT isn't my cup of tea at all but he's clearly got huge middle Ireland appeal. I don't know who would step into his shoes if gets the heave-ho, Creedon maybe?
It goes much deeper than that. Noel Kelly represents over 20 members of the RTE organisation (all public knowledge). Which the RTE reps yesterday in the Oireachtas Committee were extremely reluctant to put a figure on.
First it was they did not know, then it was 4-5? - then they said 'oh I thought you meant the top 10 earners'. Then an approximation was finally put on the true figure.
There is no proof of corruption though just wonderful completely legal accounting manipulations, giving the person in question what they were owed contractually.

It is interesting that that Noel Kelly Management website is now blank
