Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

No one is RTE has a fraction of the talent or screen presence as GN or TW, even if you fused them all together into one entity they wouldn't come close. Let 'em off to hell!
It is a stupid phrase used by fnckwits. But it's mostly repeated here now, to rightly mock the eejits who used it in an Irish chat forum to play down how important this story is.
Creepy shltbags use that phrase play down a story. Creeps.
I don’t know why RTE don’t just “grow a pair “ when dealing with these so called “stars “ and their agents. When they get demanding, stand your ground. They know where the door is and they know their mediocrity won’t be as well paid elsewhere
It seems to be very popular with the regulars of the Etiquette thread, maybe it gives them all the runs? A "Content Creator" of sorts.
Q - they obv thought they would get away with this..
what went wrong? a lot of the blah blah blah is a bit over my head
A discrepancy was picked up by an auditor, but there are suggestions of a whistle-blower. RT doesn't seem to be popular with his colleagues.
1/10
Only now we get to see how overpaid these celebrities are. No wonder no one wants to be a doctor or a lawyer anymore.
Tubs lied to the media, the public, and his co-workers about taking a pay cut whilst employing his agent, acting on his instruction and behalf, to put more pressure on RTE, to obtain more money via dodgy contractual dealings, which saw his salary increase rather than reduce. His agent acted for him, not the other way around. At a time of crisis and great poverty in this country such shenanigans might not be illegal, but they are morally wrong. Tubridy's greed and dishonesty in his misappropriation of tax payer's money, along with RTE's collusion in this fraud, disgusts most people. His misconduct has brought the national broadcaster into disrepute, and caused a public breach of trust which will last a long time. People who cannot afford food have gone to prison for failing to pay their tv licence. He has breached his contract because his financial dealings are corrupt. A man who publicly champions charities to fight 'poverty', and who then brazenly lies about pocketing over 300 thousand euro, brought about not by an RTE accounting error but by his own agents strenuous efforts to obtain more money for him, is someone who is unfit to work in the public domain. The public don't want him. Not now. Therefore he is unemployable. RTE should terminate his contract forthwith, as they have a right to do, as he has brought about a national crisis purely as a result of his own misconduct... otherwise known as pure greed.
We learned so much about the RTE shenanigans in 4 hours and yet Martin's report will take 7 months. That's Ireland.
Hard to believe the staff didn't walk out tonight after that performance in front of the public accounts committee this evening - It has to have boiled peoples blood?
Irish broadcasting has been dominated by RTE for far too long, it needs to be reformed now, scale it back, separate and commercialise 2RN and let them be similar to NPR and PBS in the states.
Exactly, could it be that hard to interview a few new fresh candidate's with a much lower amount on the table to be got ?
There are consequences for those who buy the products pushed by the sponsors of the Newstalk shows. It looks like Renault's sponsorship cost each Renault buyer about €200 on the price of their new car. There will be similar uplifts on the car manufacturers and others sponsoring Newstalk. We pay, one way or other.
Yes, they usually spin things out for as long as possible so that peoples anger gradually dies down, then other news happens to cause distractions and people forget. But a change is needed, badly. No-one I know watches the Irish stations, so RTE is on the way out. The only way it can survive in the future is as someone posted earlier, to just continue as a channel making documentaries and Irish language/interest programmes. The private sponsorship should be ended, along with the massive salaries - let other new private channels start up ( though I doubt if its the same crap as the LLS that anyone will watch them).
Marketing has gone man, I went to a main dealer to get something for my car and all the staff were in HH jackets ( Helly Henson ) construction clothes have brand ambassadors.
invite? If he’s an employee, demand it. But at the same time, they’ll stick to their party line.
But the sponsorship didn't cost Renault a penny. RTE gave them free advertising for the cost of the sponsorship and paid the hospitality costs when RT attended Renault events. They actually saved money on it!
Jesus looking at Nevin McGuire on RTE now. Shocking. Dreadful. How mich does that guy get paid?
Not PAC it is tomorrow
You leave Nevin out of this!
But Renault didn't pay him that.
RTE did.
but surely the powers at RTE would been aware of future audit.. ?
i heard something about a whistle blower too..
but I dunno - more to it? with regards to Renault..?
Another good Dunphy pod on the matter with Arthur Beasley of The Irish Times this time. note: it was recorded before today's Oireachtas session.
Apparently the barter account was overlooked before because it always balanced, for some reason it was looked at this time.
Renault didn't do anything suspicious, they're just linked to the RT scandal.
There's loads of info online that outlined the sequence of events, but not everything is out in the open yet.
Was it leaked? I thought RTE released it to all last Thursday?
It may not be his responsibility but he saw the lies published re his salary and like the greedy little pig he is he made no attempt to correct it.
Tubs is finished in this country and he will just get what he deserves and heres hoping us taxpayers are not asked to give him a golden handshake.
Very popular man in my home house. I've eaten in his restaurant a couple of times. Sweet divine Jeebus.
I've not idea how the executive staff in RTE can continue in their roles. They've been the Central part of developing and and embedding the culture that has gotten RTE to this point. There desperate attempts to pin it all on Dee Forbes is comical.
I don't know why they weren't pressed further to resign. Weak TDs.
Can they be sacked?…
Tubs - despite claiming earlier this year he wouldn't be going anywhere re. TLLS for years yet - suddenly and unexpectedly announces on March 16th he's ending his tenure in May.
On March 17th , a day later, and the biggest Bank Holiday of the year (and one on which practically no-one is at work), the auditors alert the RTE Board that there's "a problem".
It has been published in several media outlets today that - and I quote - "prior to Deloitte auditors contacting the board on 17 March, Deloitte spoke with the chief finance officer & to Dee Forbes, and was unhappy with the responses". Now if Deloitte are trying to contact the board on March 17th it's an understatement to say it's just "a problem", they clearly felt it was of huge importance the board be made aware immediately, regardless of the fact that it's our National Holiday.
So Forbes and the CFO knew their elaborate scheme was rumbled before March 17th. Are we seriously supposed to believe that neither Forbes nor the CFO contacted Noel Kelly or Tubridy to tell them the scheme had been discovered? Anyone who thinks this is all a coincidence is being very naive.
