I predict RTE will rapidly go bankrupt, and reopen as something like Broadcasting Service Ireland which will become more of a one-station journalism/public information vehicle with less fluff.
I'd say the reason why Tubridy et al got paid so much was because his pay was then used as a benchmark for everyone else in RTE and media land generally to be earning so much. If Tubridy was on 250k instead of 500k well then someone on 100k should really have only been earning close to 50k. It was a basis of inflating all the salaries in irish media land

Tax has to be equitable, you can't say one person can avail of this tax exemption but another can't.
Now the Dept of Finance could change the rules and remove or taper the artist exemption if you have other income over a certain amount.
It is ridiculous that Ryan Tubridy with his substantial income is claiming artists exemption on at least 3 different books, avoiding income tax on up to €150k a year.
But they are saying he hasn't had a contact since he quit late late no?
Matt Cooper's books on "Who really runs Ireland" and "How Ireland went bust" (apologies if I have the titles incorrect there, but they're similar at least from memory) are investigate journalism-type books written by an actual journalist. I think that type of book deserves to be treated a little differently than say a hypothetically-titled "Joe Duffy's Favourite Coddle Recipes" cookery book, or basically any of Tubridy's books.

The committee chair said that they could run PACs on improving standards at RTE all summer.
So he can't make any further comment as this story develops, but can come out to once again basically say "F*ck off" to the company that pays his fees on behalf of the public. I don't know who is advising Tubridy, but they're doing one hell of a job!
