Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Deflect, deflect, deflect.
did you even listen to the podcasts?
I remember a favourite line of Dunphy's at the time of the 2008 financial crash was "the Taoiseach earns more than President of the United States". The fact that he himself was getting more than a Taoiseach's salary from RTE for a bit of punditry didn't seem to bother him too much though.
Also what is this Exit Fee when a contract finishes? It's a contract and it ends and you either renew it or say goodbye
RTE absolutely rotten to the core that someone is getting these sweetheart deals
They'd get it wrong.
People talking about Top 10 earners in RTE.
We need to look into the Top 100.
The ordinary employees in there would back that up.
You’d have assumed that nearly a week into this mess, there would start by some clarity, but the statement from Dee Forbes and the Rte statement, it’s more confusing.
Renault write off €75k in paying this money to Tubs, reduces corporation tax bill. Tubs gets €75k or part of after agent fees and pays tax on it, hopefully for him. Who writes the invoice to Renault and presumably charges and collects VAT on it. Tubs doesn’t invoice them, the money just comes his way from RTÉ. So RTÉ must be invoicing/ credit noting and are they not liable for tax on this? The whole practice stinks.
He has a right to be paid for his contract unless someone can show how he has broken the terms of that contract, and thats not going to happen.
You cant accuse him of breaching a contract because the terms of that contract hid his earnings from a third party (the public) at the behest of the person offering the contract.
Tubs is guilt of a lot of things, but none of them are valid reasons for RTE to terminate his contract.
Don't blame it on the sunshine
Don't blame it on the moonlight
Don't blame it on the good times
Blame it on the DG
The 17k balance may have been the brokerage fee. Possibly?
Where are the defenders?
It was in the report that NK invoiced RTE when Renault ended the sponsorship, but it was paid through the barter account to hide it.
I suppose the lack of clarity is a clarity in itself about how even more shambolic this will turn out to be.
It requires the very dedicated to continue here… fair dues to his sets 😁
How was it being handled when Renault were involved? Was NK invoicing Renault then? And collecting VAT?
I believe he was paid from the bank account of "Grubby little payments limited".
No idea, but it's likely very dodgy.
You have a substantial point there. The whole thing stinks to a similar degree as the JD debacle, granted with some significant differences. And look what's actually happened there since. Very little. Are we still waiting on a report?
There are so many things that have happened her even since the news broke that are a disgrace!
Did he breach his contract when he stepped down from LLS?
It's presumably a provision sought to ensure that a contract is renewed on favourable terms.
Say tubs had managed to negotiate an exit fee of say €2m during the good times that really puts him in a position of enormous strength when it comes to renegotiate terms. I suspect that the exit fee must have been huge since rte were running scared of losing him/triggering it and would have caused them great difficulty if they had to pay it.
It really goes to show what a canny operator Tubs is, in that he absolutely knew how to protect his income through both getting guarantees and this exit clause.
Hopefully they will explore the exit clause tomorrow at committee.
The original title of this thread was
"Tubs on the take?"
I think it was a beaut....
But sure Tubs probably didn't know ... 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Needs a detailed breakdown from Tubs as to exactly what services he supplied to Renault for this extra money. If whatever he did was completely in his own time and completely separate from RTÉ that would be ok. But if he did any promo work associated with his working life in RTÉ, either casual mentions or on RTÉ working hours, then there are significant issues for RTÉ, potential loss of revenue etc. One suspects there’s a right can of worms in this and various parties involved may be straining to keep the lid from popping.
NK power and control is absurd. It results in the likes of Dermot Bannon having a complete monopoly on architecture programmes. No up and coming architect gets a look in.
In civil service work procurement procedure requires you to get 3 quotes for all jobs. Why aren't RTE following such procedures? RTE is full of cocked up lifers.
Outrageous amounts of porridge perks.
It's the RTE way - fling lots of taxpayers money at the problem. Lets take Martina Fitzgerald for instance - her contract ends, RTE decide not to renew it, she gets the hump, goes legal and RTE fling a load of our money at the problem for her to FO - Reminds me of the govt tbh
Nevermind what he did, RTE paid for it in a convoluted ponzi scheme!
Thing about Dunphy, and as he said tonight he was earning 300k (let's assume euro) back in 2008 and he demanded to take a 10% cut - one coild argue that the fact he was getting 300k was extreme, but also did he not have a contract that had no termination date, they were unable to get rid of him without paying him off (from the football); that is a nice gig, and wasn't his then squeeze (now wife) quite senior in RTE but perhaps she had nothing to do with these generous terms offered to Dunphy
Indeed. Thinking about this a bit more, the only time the Tubs would genuinely have had the upper hand in a negotiation that might have cornered RTE into accepting such terms was if they sought to renegotiate his contract very early. This might have been the case in the early to mid 2010's. Can anyone remember anything about the talent volunteering pay cuts? It sounds vaguely familiar.
If the exit fee is large (which it must be) you can bet your backside that it's been rolling over into subsequent contracts.
This reminds me big time of Dee Forbes 'total culpability'.
