Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

No mention of stress in her statement.
No idea what this means....tone deaf, how?
It's simple: Could she be suffering from stress? Yes or no....
No idea what is tone deaf about thinking she could....
Remote controls in the newsroom that don't work? No maternity pay for people on maternity? No crews?
Where is all the money going? Over a 140 million of a budget last year.
This is not just a few payments. No way.
She may well be stressed. I don't believe she's too ill to answer questions and explain her role in all this though. She may not want to, but too ill? Nope, not buying it.
No. She mentions her health is suffering. So, I think it's fair to deduce that this could be stress/anxiety due to the pressure and scrutiny she is now subject to.
It's fair to deduce that's she's making that up to avoid questions. But you think otherwise.
Agreed. There is a reason why statements are being delayed and are so fudged when they do come out. I'd imagine nobody knows exactly what was paid and to whom. I'd suspect it runs far beyond the presenters and celebs too. I'd like to know if any of the non screen staff were getting generous payments like this.
You can see why the barbecue was cancelled after RTE consulted with the NUJ now. I’d say Tubs is not coming back and RTE will find a way to make it happen with as little fuss as possible.
Mother of god
She doesn’t need an excuse to avoid questions.
Me thinking that this crisis could be affecting her mental well-being is somehow being construed into me defending her. I am not. I am simply saying that, as a person who is under intense negative media scrutiny, it is not at all inconceivable to think that she could be suffering with stress and anxiety
Is this the way the thread needs to go? That if you're not coming down hard hard hard on Forbes and Tubridy, and you dare to show some consideration and debate, that you're somehow defending them and trying to absolve them of any wrongdoing?
Ridiculous take. I have had posters tell me I am excusing her not attending PAC, when I said no such thing. She and others in this crisis are accountable and should be held to account.
Is that it?
Never mind Tubs - how does Joe Duffy, Miriam, Brendan O'Connor, Ray D'arcy, and Claire Byrne walk back into RTE with their big wages and look struggling people in the eye. I'd say they'll swan around.
Stress and Anxiety are normal human reactions.
Being mentally unwell is a manifestation of many reactions and your lack ability to control them.
She didn’t get a mental health diagnosis from a doctor over the weekend.
It’s actually a disgraceful excuse and just another F-U to the people who paid her excuberent salary for the last number years. How dare she trot that out like some get out of jail free card when we have people with actual mental health disorders suffering without care day after day.
Disgracful in my opinion.
Read the first line of that mate. No wouldn't spit on her. We'd just like her to answer a few questions.
You made your view. I responded. The matter is over. We have different views.
She absolutely should go before the committee as long as there is no attempt to grandstand by any member of the committee in order to up their or their party profile, the whole thing should be unemotive, factual, and calm before she attends she should see her legal representative, make sure everything is factual in fact stick strictly to the facts have lots of notes.
There had to be accountability.
Surely isn’t it awful for her honestly. She made eejits of everyone in and out of RTE but god help her, listen don’t tell anyone, but I heard she had a tension headache with all of this.
Panadol didn’t even work. She had to get the Solpadine. So as you can imagine she’s up to her eyes and really, she needs a few days, maybe weeks. Look, sure what’s a few months as long as she’s ok.
All that said, when she’s back, I’d say within a few years, sure won’t we all be terribly sorry for the stress she’s under. I mean, Dee is very sorry. She was just doing what she thought was the right thing!
No, honestly now, she’s very, very, sorry.
Okey doke....
Remember too that this is not the first time RTE have appeared at the PAC. And they were told before to get their house in order and live within their means. Question marks also arose around their Revenue liabilities.
Public Accounts Committee express concern over RTÉ's 'dependence on State funding' (breakingnews.ie)
Public Accounts Committee express concern over RTÉ's 'dependence on State funding'
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised concern that RTÉ is over-reliant on State funding, while commercial revenues have slumped in recent years.
The PAC also raised the issue of RTÉ's outstanding liabilities to Revenue following a review in 2017 into the broadcaster's use of contractors.
The review found 157 workers had contracts which were found to be "in need of a further review as they had either attributes 'akin to employment' or 'akin to both employment and self-employment'," Mr Stanley said.
It's the same reaction her husband had for the media at their house - F**k off.
I wouldn’t cross the street to spit on her.
That said I wouldn’t cross the street to help her if she tripped either.
I wonder how many months she's had it hanging over her.
She won't be back she is 57 or 59 or something like that, none of the main players will be back they will quietly set up media a company, and get UK and or US contracts that's how this will play out.
Maybe she's just a cnunt?
If she had tripped it would be due to the undersubscription of the TV license…
From January.
No sustainable future without funding reform - RTÉ (rte.ie)
RTÉ has told a Dáil committee that there is no sustainable future for the organisation and many of its key partners that rely on its capacity to invest, without a reformed public funding model.
Director of Strategy Rory Coveney was speaking to the Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media, which is meeting today to discuss the long-term vision for the media sector in television and film.
Mr Coveney said Toy Show the Musical may come back in some form next year.
@Spanish Eyes i think it was you who asked about the other “stars” in RTÉ. It’s taken me all day to catch up with the thread and I’m not going back again to check!
I’m interested in hearing about Miriam O’Callaghan. Between herself, her 2nd husband who was employed by RTÉ for a while and their company, Mint Productions (started in 2000 but now wound up), there was a very hefty income being paid over by RTÉ to their household.
What about other production companies that RTÉ use? Do they have other family connections within?
Unions are going to want answers I'd say or there'll be hell to pay.
Any sign of this statement ?
