Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Is much of your second paragraph actually true? He railed specifically against lads taking on a nixer during covid?
I think Tubridy has a lot of explaining to do here, he has clearly not acted very honestly. But much of that second paragraph seems like spin and exaggeration.
Who said she should not be held accountable? Not sure how you read my post and came up with that...
But that doesn't change the fact that they are people, and that they can still suffer mentally and physically from stress and pressure and scandal etc.
As soon as I heard she had resigned, I thought she hasn't a notion of attending any kind of inquiry now, and there she goes.
Health issues, aye.
Meanwhile, an independent review carried out the boards of RTÉ have confirmed that, try as they might, there isn’t a living soul on the island of Ireland who is willing to host a show for less than €250,000.
has me in tears. whether laughter or not I am still not sure
No it's 100 percent true. He wanted us all to put everything on hold while he took our money on the QT. Now you can get into the semantics of it if you want but everyone remembers his and RTE's coverage on Covid. And all the while they were lining his pockets.
DEE gone into hiding and won't go to the PAC.
If that was a bloke who decided to phone in sick and not go they would be ripped apart.
We really are a country of cute hoors.
Every section of society is at it.
Ryan and co just got caught, didn’t cover their tracks carefully enough.
Most others won’t.
What about the mental health and stress of RTE staff she gave pay cuts to and justified with lies?
Zero sympathy for her. This is entirely of her own doing.
I mean, just to play devil's advocate here, she could be having mental health issues, I mean she is being scrutinized intensely by the irish media, she has RTE trying to deflect all responsibility onto her and her career could be over, she is still relatively young. I think many people would have a touch of anxiety at the minimum in this situation. Who are we to say? I cant imagine her getting much sleep for the last week.
I remember his preachy sermons during covid. Admittedly, they gave me a pain in my hole but never once do I recall him having a go at people taking a nixer to feed their family or saying anything about how bad society was. Quite the opposite.
Maybe she could sew a nice quilt out of crisp €100 notes from her recent €305,000 salary to help her to sleep at night?
One specific morning I remember it. Trying to dig it out now.
Good
If you read the role of DG it says that it will be a very public role and you will need to be comfortable being in the public eye. She had no issue with the deals made and no issue calling for more funding. Maybe she has covid or a flu or something nothing do do with mental health issues. When she better she can go into the oireachtas and answer some questions, how about that?
Well, I think that's overly harsh to have 0 sympathy for a person who made calls/decisions that have now come back to see her heavily demonized. She's a human being. She didn't murder someone.
Are we that heartless and cold that we can't try look deeper into some these issues and understand that, sometimes, people (who can be good people) make mistakes/bad calls. Nobody is saying cry her a river, but some type human understanding that affords people some consideration.
So to be clear should no one who is involved with journalism or presenting in RTE have an agency negotiates with RTE on their behalf?
Maybe. I'd imagine, regardless of how rich you are, you'd struggle in her position. Her name is being dragged through the gutter on a daily basis. However, she still should be accountable.
Problem is that the PAC will always have politicians grandstanding and playing to the gallery trying to make a name for themselves. She would never get a fair hearing because she'd have lost before she went in. Not saying what she's doing is right, makes me very uneasy, but she wouldn't be the first and won't be the last to do it.
No sympathy at all. If you sign up to take one of these jobs with the 6 figure salary then you have to take the good with the bad. Too easy in this country for those on these big public pay packets to take the money but none of the responsibility or accountability. She is a coward who doesn't want to face the music and has pulled the auld "mental health, get out of jail free card" from her pocket. An absolute disgrace.
She took on a high profile, extremely well paid job knowing full well she would be held to account if she screwed up. She appears to have screwed up and now she doesn't want to answer questions due to her mental health. Feck that. That's why she's on the big bucks.
Perhaps she should have given due consideration to the fact that she might be caught by the small and curleys before she orchestrated shady deals for such immensely talented presenters like Ryan "The Toyman" Tubridy, whilst simultaneously demanding the licence fee be increased due to dire financial straits that she was, in fact, partly responsible for?
Just a thought, mind.
I am not saying that she should be immune from answering questions.
It's not harsh at all. She is being subjected to legitimate public scrutiny commensurate with the role she was employed in.
But she was happy to take the huge remuneration for her role wasn't she?
I don't wish stress on anyone. But I feel zero sympathy if chickens are coming home to roost.
Noted that you pointedly did not express any sympathy for RTE staff she deceived. The hypocrisy of your position is obvious.
I think it is hard for a lot of folks who are not in a comfortable position to have sympathy for someone who makes extortionate amounts of money yearly and yet preaches about the hardships of their company and staff who are also on ridiculous money, yet many have had job loses, costs going up everywhere and generally struggling to get by day to day. This kind of stuff generates a lot of resentment and anger at how flippant these people are to those not as fortunate, eg increasing tv license fees as RTE is so hard done by.
Won't someone please think of the multi-millionaire tax avoider and hypocrite, and the incredibly well-remunerated former DG who made side deals that have brought the state broadcaster into disrepute because of their wink-wink nudge nudge slyness and complete disregard for the taxpayer from whose pockets they became wealthy in the first place?
Yes that's exactly what should happen.
If she has nothing to hide she should go in and explain her position.
Most people can see right through those politicians and when a straight answer is given they find it hard to grandstand. However I suspect that there really are not any straight answers to give. I suspect that they have been caught red handed doing something they shouldn't have done and she doesn't want a telling off.
Yeah, that's what people are saying alright. 🙄
Deflect. Deflect. Deflect.
No why would I, I'm am also a bit perplexed that people are surprised that the likes of Luke O Neill has an agent in fact I'd say most experts be it, history, science, politics, they all get paid by the RTE for their content, did people think they were doing it for nothing?
Also not forgetting as we have seen the pressure and stress she exerted on regular employees in RTE with the constant whining of there being no money, imposing pay cuts and the shambolic work practices she oversaw in the organisation. So sorry but I not one bit of sympathy for her. She was very well paid and for that she must answer for what has been exposed.
