Her father is one of the organisers and is involved with GAAW. Extremist Republicans and anti war groups bit of an odd combination.
The group dates back to the days of the Cold War days when anti-war was just a cover for anti-American groups, with dubious sources of funding.
Don’t think it’s that odd at all. A quick scan of the An Phoblacht archives show that the “semtex branch” of SF were always in awe of Russia and the former USSR. Despite Moscow preferring to fund the Workers Party and the INLA.
Disastrous opinion poll for SF. Where the hell is Mary Lou? She seems to have gone missing.
They are rolling out the increasingly ludicrous Eoin Ó Broin (Michael D levels of pomposity) and the thick as two short planks Matt Carthy.
All ok with them?
Sinn Fein let themselves down again. Scratch the surface and you see the nasty thuggish underbelly.
A chance to show that they are part of normal society and they botch it again.
The opinion poll was interesting. They are speaking with forked tongues (what's new about that, you ask) on the issue of immigration and they are losing votes to both views.
I‘ve had a feeling something’s been wrong for a while.
The pressure must be getting to them, many people have huge expectations on them not just to form the next government but to deliver on housing.
It’s not a great sign that two of their most important figures are struggling with health issues already, if this tweet was from Joe Biden everybody would be saying he’s not fit for office…
Hope she get's better soon, governments need opposition.
Is Paul saying out loud what a lot of “there since the troubles” SF supporters are thinking?
SF appear to be going off the boil, even though they have not had a day in government yet.
God help them in the future.
I wouldn't put it down to anything SF have done or not done, except maybe that sitting on the sidelines crying and whinging doesn't work in the longer term.
For example, the record number of first-time buyers in May this year are hardly likely to vote for a party promising a free house with a garden to everyone in the audience.
Have the Shinners gone on holidays early or something? Not a peep out of them, and the online party “activists” seem to be very quiet as well.
All ok with them? I see even Paddy Cosgrave’s The Ditch taking a few potshots at the leftie credentials of SF yesterday.
Stanley Laurel is still playing for laughs at the PAC.
Some very interesting polling takes in this.
"On every single question asked – and there were a lot – Sinn Féin voters were the most anti-immigrant, anti-refugee and anti-asylum-seeker cohort by political party support. This is really worrying. SF have developed an unfortunate habit of generating xenophobic rhetoric from a small group of their councillors, of which Aidan Mullins is the latest – going so far as to join a far-right Twitter space to espouse his views. As of the time of writing it does not appear Cllr Mullins, who has been espousing these views for months, has suffered any consequences. And let’s not even get into what it said in their 2020 manifesto…"
Are we surprised?
Listening to a SF video called Unbroken Comrades on YT. It dawned on me that Gerry Adams has consistently denied being in the IRA. On that basis why would he have been flown over to London for talks with the British Government in 1972/73 time? Was he in SF at that stage?
Going down like a lead balloon even with their online army. Chavez died a billionaire and Venezuela is now the most dangerous country in the world.
because he was in the ira and responsible for many of its crimes
In fairness to SF we got a knock on the door from their canvassing team last night. He had a set of teeth like an abandoned graveyard and herself was skulking in the background probably looking for a debate on Palestine.
The door-to-door thing is important though, even when you get the feeling “normal politics” isn’t landing with the team.
Great piece in the Times today that hints at the real decision makers and “activists” in the “kitchen cabinet” of SF. Goes some way to explaining why so many of their councillor’s in “the South” resigned due to feeling threatened and intimidated by the party structure.
Very much not a normal party, and that seems to be ok for the party faithful.
Doesn’t really get into the various long-standing rumours that members of the kitchen cabinet are informers.
Sinn Féin candidate accepts he shouldn’t have tweeted ‘f**k the gardaí’, says party’s justice spokesman | Independent.ie
sf normalizing the personal abuse of your police service boys will be boys eh .
not a normal party just another crime gang more like
A nice little jolly for the lads
Recommend Shane Ross's book on McDonald. Numerous insights into both her life and probings into the workings of SF. Reader left in no doubt but that there are two SFs on the island - the northern SF and the southern SF. Which coexist somewhat uncomfortably with the former group calling the real shots.
Two of the bigwigs as well. The buckets will be full to the brim that night.
Business class flights to Aus I expect.
Boys will be boys is the standard excuse for anything SF get up to. It's rolled out again
Micheal Gerard McMonagle: Arrest warrant ordered for ex-Sinn Fein Derry press officer charged with alleged child sex offences - SundayWorld.com
i hope they aren't bringing this creature to oz with them, its not like sf would hide a sex offender or anything ............
Another one, who is surprised?
They have ignored their own guidelines for years.
Can’t really blame SF here unless we find out they attempted to hide the story or carry out their own internal discipline like they’ve done in the past.
Is he going to become another of the “on the run” gang?
Was that when they sent a few lads around to a house to tell the young lady to delete tweets? or another of the "internal discipline" meetings they have on a regular basis
They will be looking for an amnesty for him shortly.
Apparently, some pictures and videos of him with MLMD circulating, but the media appear to have pulled them.
https://twitter.com/ThoughtsToby/status/1686882936006602752
Only right that media aren't sharing photos like that - MLMcD isn't responsible for what he may or may not have been getting up to in his private life and it's not like the Dowdall situation where a small bit of due dilligence would have suggested what he was involved in.
That said - I'm not sure any other party would be getting the kid gloves treatment if there were photos of their party leader doing media events with an alleged sex offender.
