The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
Limerick, no?
Stupid and misguided bunkum IMO. Prices are perfectly valid in current market
So the IEVA has sent a letter of complaint to EBS eCars and asking them to reduce the prices with respect to the quality of service provided (not reflected in the price). Nice one!
What do we think?
^^ I've added that to the site now:
Could probably do with tidying up that page. Lots of graphs... too much scrolling
Just occurred to me that while I do post number of "sites" Ecars have, I don't post a chart of the number of units/chargers they have.
Finally more CCS units that CHAdeMO. Next Mondays graph will include BOb plaza.
My Mini charging card still seems to be active, so I'm still in the envious position of eCars being the cheapest per kWh. (35c on all DC)
You're allowed to name them 😉
I think you've hit the nail on the head, Ecars are effectively the provider of last resort so when there's an alternative available they get used instead
And the car company that shall not be named has done a decent job of expanding over the last year or two so you can generally get around a lot of Ireland without using Ecars
You can take your Leaf on a spin to Galway now 😉
I must admit that I have lost almost all interest in ESB, EasyGo etc charging, now that I have the car brand that must not be named..😋
and incredulously 9 chademo plugs too!
I think a bit of both, the only controversial thing that eCars have done in the last 12 months is the removal of the CHAdeMO charger in Clifden, other than that they've been doing a decent job of rolling out small charging stations with Supervalu and charging hubs with the Plaza group.
This thread has really died off recently, have Ecars started doing their job or something?
Or have the competition rolled out enough chargers that we can ignore Ecars now?
Or are we just so jaded that we've stopped complaining? 😅
Don't get your hopes up, I'm sure there's going to be some major flaw waiting to be discovered
Finally an actual ESB hub.
Barack Obama Plaza hub appears online 9 CCS plugs 👍
O Bama plaza, 4 cars queuing to use the one charger today but soon...
Pass it under the car, or trial it around behind the wheels. Not really an issue
Probably not, AFAIK the announced chargers are being installed by the county council and they tend to go with an Irish provider (I believe they're actually legally obliged to do so unless there's no company in Ireland that can fulfill the requirement)
The issue with the Ionity expansion is that it's been about a year and nothing has happened. I know it takes a long while to acquire sites and get planning permission and grid connections, so I still feel the 2025 completion date is very much at risk
I'm also pretty convinced that Ireland is way down the priority list for Ionity
ionity are installing chargers in waterford, i wonder will they count those.
Fast in an Irish sense means 50kW. I'd be having a proper moan if they went with the UK definition
Well they seem to think they're in Norway based on the amount of Viking monuments there, but they haven't rolled out a Norwegian style charging network either 😜
My point was more around the extremely loose definition of a fast charger and without a stated power output it's hard to gauge how useful they'll be
I'm hoping it's twelve 50kW units at a minimum, but if they installed a dozen 200kW units I'd be very impressed. My worry is they'll trend towards the more budget friendly option of installing a bunch of AC chargers, or installing a few triple head units and claiming the AC side as another charger (so 6 DC and 6 AC)
I'd hope Waterford Council don't think they are in the UK
"Fast" charger is a depressingly variable term, could be 6 dual 22kW AC chargers and still satisfy the term fast charger (going by the UK definitions)
12 "delivered" fast chargers in Waterford by the end of CY 2023 is a great target. After the first 6 months 0 (well -1) have been done but hopefully the speed of delivery will increase sometime between now and December.
They're operating at ecars levels of speed so.
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm?
Don't forget, Waterford council have committed to installing 12 new chargers this year, they're currently at 0 at my last count though...
Got mine off @Kramer a few years back.
Google "10m type 2 charging cable" and you'll find some. epower for example: https://www.epower.ie/product-page/type-2-to-type-2-32-a-5m
Actually that kinda looks like my cable
Do you have a link or source you recommend for such a cable. Sounds like something worth having in the boot.
The reason I have a 10m cable for when I need to AC charge. Saved me twice in centre parcs, and was handy when AC charging was free.
Stays in the attic though. Only brought out for road trips. Single phase too, so 7KW max.
Speaking of long cables, I passed ESB's on-street charger down beside the old Dundrum shopping centre last night, it's where the road has been made one-way now and the parking is on the left as you drive down the street, so you can only drive in to park facing the direction of the traffic. Sorry I didn't photograph it, but there were two ID4's parked up for a charge, but the charging port is on the right side (traffic side) of the ID4 meaning that both had the cable draped over and around their vehicles and it looked like a right unsafe mess of hanging or stretched cables. I don't know what the solution is there but that's clearly less than ideal for anybody except a Kona or Leaf, etc!
How long do you reckon the cable is on those chargers? I'm wondering if there's a car in the disabled spot and I come along in anything other than a Tesla, will the cable reach without parking on the blue area?
EDIT: Actually it looks like the charger is closer to the left space than I thought, it looked at first like it was in front of the disabled spot and not beside it
