Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

He knew that his salary was incorrect, therefore he stole
Think that Tubridy also tried to break into US TV. Didn't work out. That's a seriously competitive market compared to the Dublin media village.

In fairness, I don't think RTE can legitimately blame Tubridy for RTE deciding to hide payment details since they themselves freely went along with the scheme and hid the payments.
He has enough talent to be employed by Channel 4 and UTV.
Tubs? Not so much ...
Very hard to try to get any sense out of a good Karen who can’t see what The great Ryan can do no wrong, best to ignore.
Can they not be employed on fixed term contracts?
Tubridy's initial statement on the extra monies paid is as tone deaf as they come. It reeks of entitlement and high handedness blaming corporate governance at RTE and completely absolving himself of any possible responsibility. In a sense his subsequent statement is rendered pointless and shows a delayed realisation that his reputation is in trouble. I would argue it's now destroyed in the eyes of the public. His own doing. In a sense his initial statement merely highlights how intellectually bereft he actually is. Which makes his pay even more annoying. Gerry Ryan shared many of Tubridy's characteristics but at least Gerry had intellectual depth and was more tuned in to the public mood and far shrewder in most respects.
What's equally tragic about Tubridy is he got a foot in the door through connections not ability. So someone who may have been talented, charming and charismatic never got a chance due to not having the right connections. This is a PR disaster for RTE. Bad enough they were overpaying him to begin with and then we hear of additional payments undeclared in his reported annual salary which PER YEAR is almost double the average national wage.
If Tubridy had a percent of moral fibre he would return the 345k to RTE but of course he doesn't. He is an entitled, arrogant, well connected pompous git whose view of his own worth far exceeds reality. I feel sorry for the good people in RTE. I like RTE for their current affairs coverage and sports docs like the Liam Brady and Kevin Moran type programs.
The first step to recovering public trust is to have a complete and unobstructed review of operations at Montrose. Then restructure the payments of the top 'stars' downwards with some off set for ratings so if your numbers are increasing/decreasing your wage is proportionately adjusted. Most importantly find someway to punish those who engaged in hoodwinking us the license fee payers.
I can remember a few years ago Joe Duffy complaining on air that he does not get sick pay. My first thought was you cheeky fooker, you are paying less tax so you don't need sick pay. Are other NK clients who are contractors thinking like this?
I think the RTE side of the deal is what PAC will be going after.
They could use fixed term contracts and pay a more conservative salary.
ETA - @odyssey06 got there before me!
Yeah. That would've been illegal under fa rules. Really only semantics but if tubs has declared it he's legally sound at least.
Though that UK diversion only seems to have been for 20 & 21 he's been getting extra since 17 - that seems to be getting lost.
Tubs is getting most of the ire on here at least, fair enough, but whoever knew & authorised this in rte should really be bearing the brunt I think. Probably won't happen though as they're only a name most have heard in the last few days, no public persona like tubs to associate to the outrage.
Thats now how sports contracts are structured, even for players paying paye type taxes in UK. They are fixed term contracts. I wonder whats different.
Alternatively the employee contract could be structured with a much lower salary amount and bonus payments based on shows presented / viewers / advertising.
Thats just me throwing out ideas if they did want to go down that route.
You do not have to do something illegal to get sacked. In contract law there is usually standard legalise standardized by employers in contracts like this that cannot be removed.
I would be surprised that some of these clauses where not included in RT's contract. Mainly the big one is not carrying out any action that will cause lega issues for your employer. RT has cause his employer to publish misleading information with others in the organisation. It's immaterial that it was in a contract he partook in a scheme that in many organisations would be considered on a par with an attempt to defraud his employer.
Tubridy would be covered by UK/ Irish/ EU tax agreement's. These make you tax residents in one country and allow for free trade of goods and services. It unlikely he would have personal tax issues where he might have an issue is if VAT was appropriate to the service. But it was a UK company that received a payment for a service from an Irish company and an Irish company that received a payment from a UK company.
Where he might have an issue is over his status as a contractor in Ireland. The revenue commissioners could look at his company's and see were these payments ( remember there were previous ones as well) used to reinforce his status as a contractor as opposed to an employee of RTE. If they were he and RTE could have a significant tax liability
You seem the have forgotten that Frontline show that resulted in Higgins being gifted the presidency in 2011. Other members of its staff were not so lucky and did not have their contracts renewed at the time. RTE knew that Kenny's audience was an RTE audience rather than a Pat Kenny audience. Kenny was smart enough to realise that he was not indispensable but the economic conditions were not good in 2013.
Much the same RTE audience argument could be applied to the LLS. After Gay Byrne left and Pat Kenny took over. Kenny tried to do a good job with it but he's more current affairs than light entertainment. It would have been really interesting to see what Gerry Ryan would have made of it. However, it was given to Tubridy and it just continued to lose viewers. Fewer viewers mean less advertising.
That's the theory but in practice they are treating them like employees in terms of tenure.
Contractors wages with unofficial permanent tenure is a great deal for the "stars".
If the contractors were actually employees then the wages would have to be more modest. RTE could then do what it should be doing - an incubator for Irish talent. Experienced employees would have a choice of security at RTE for a modest wage or play the commercial field for higher stakes and wages.
It would cost RTE more to hire the likes of the very high earners (Tubs/Pat Kenny) as employees rather than have them as contractors which is the current model.
If Tubs was an RTE employee, he'd have to be paid that money until he reached retirement date. With contractors, they can choose not to renew their contracts and get rid of them much sooner (and thus cheaper).
What should come out of all this is that if you want to work for Rte, then you become an rte employee. None of this 1 man company nonsense, billing rte for your services so you can limit your tax.
Take your big wage but pay proper tax on it like the rest of us.
Definitely has psychopathic traits, fairly common, but he would think he's worth every penny, and the best thing since sliced Brennan's.
Unless he was there 183 days that year he is tax resident in Ireland
Has any of them commented since this broke?
Suprised U2 didn't come out in support of him, oh wait...
It's indicative of a lack of self-awareness on Tubridys part. If you were in a job where you're averaging half a million euro a year and you are, subjectively, not very good at that job then you would be aware that you've got it good. He is surely not deaf to criticisms about his broadcasting skill. As such, since your remuneration is disclosed publicly, then, in the interests of protecting yourself you'd make damn sure there is nothing going on that would potentially jeopardise your position and remuneration. It perhaps reeks of a sense of entitlement and delusion in that agreeing to the arrangement matched Tubridys assessment of his worth. Reputation is everything. It is worth more than money and once one is lost it is difficult to recover. You see that happening already with no one supporting his statements. He blew his reputation for the sake of a third of a million. He knew what the arrangement was and was happy to go along with duping the public via the false reported figures.
Granted - usual reason for it to be done is to hide it from tax man.
But it could also mean eg back in 1960s there were under the counter payments to footballers to avoid FA rules about maximum wage. Not sure of their exact tax status!
Probably trying to hush it up? It wouldn't fit with his image!!!
I wouldn't voluntarily take a pay cut & what was he earning that made him
feel that a 30K reduction in pay was ok & it wouldn't be missed?
Its a great thread but to be honest I cant make head or tail of what going on at this stage.
In fairness I'd say most would take under the table & off books to mean illegal payment, cash.
If Charlie Haughey was taking brown envelopes along with many others in politics for as many
decades I can assure you that practice found it's way into many different professional careers!
I was hesitant to use the phrase myself initially but have been paying attention to the media commentary phrasings.
You can never predict the twists and turns of a media career but it seems a long road back from here.
Wow, that's nuts. It does specify sports stars though. HMRC might think RT owes UK income tax on that 1 show, but based on the article it would be his 1 UK based LLS income from all of his apperances/shows that year and end up being worth extremely little in tax to HMRC.
I've placed a number of posters on ignore following advice from my agent (lol). I've separately been told via PM that one or two of them are continuing to troll and attempt to bait me - they know who they are.
To those posters: I've decided not to engage further with people who call me unhinged, a c*nt, a stalker, a psycho, unemployed, obsessed, depressed, lonely, insane, mentally ill, sensitive, jealous, bitter....and all the various other things I've been called on the Tubridy/NKM subject over the years in what is supposed to be a civil forum. Please note: I can't see your posts so won't be in a position to reply. I'm not running scared, you haven't "beaten" me - I simply for the sake of my mental health (that you frequently question) will not be engaging with you further. Almost every single time people start the personal abuse I ask them to stop and debate without resorting to insults - it has rarely worked. I have frequently said I'll debate anyone on the topics of RTE Radio and TV, NKM, Tubs, and Joe Duffy as long as the debate doesn't resort to personal abuse. No-one has yet taken me up on that.
Apparently my post count and tenure on boards was questioned too? I'm posting on boards since 2009. I have 50,000+ posts, 45,000 approx. of which are radio-related in that time. I am I believe the poster with (by far) the highest radio post count on the site, despite being banned from the Tubridy thread earlier this year for a post I showed a photo of a number of pages back. I have been talking about the overpaid "talent" of NKM for most of that time, specifically Joe Duffy and Ryan Tubridy. Indeed, I've been immeasurably more critical of Joe Duffy than I ever was on Tubridy. I work in a field where I have met Tubridy professionally and socially. I grew up within a KM of him. I'm the same age as him, and I've known him since he was a teenager. We have many overlapping acquaintances, but we are very different individuals. We have a lot in common and we are acquaintances, but we were never friends.
In my various work roles over the years I have been responsible for buying advertising on RTE (and obviously, other media outlets). I have negotiated Sponsorship deals with them for Radio and TV programmes. I have been in RTE countless times. I have been on RTE junkets and received gifts from them at Christmas etc. - I've made no secret of this in my radio posts. I was offered tickets to the Toy Show once and politely declined - it's apparently not the done thing to decline these btw. I have met most of the Commercial team over the years. I have many an RTE Commercial Dept. member's phone number in my phone incl. Geraldine O'Leary's (outgoing Commercial Director). Another member of that department was even at my wedding, though he has since moved to a rival. I have a few friends who works for other radio and TV stations. I as recently as last week had coffee with the host of a current affairs radio show on a national station. I would venture I know more about how this stuff (and RTE) works than most - hence why I've been so vocal about it, NKM, Tubs, and Duffy for so long. There's lots I know that I couldn't and can't put in writing for legal reasons, and I've never ventured there - I even requested poster to stop discussing a rumour about Tubridy which was mentioned by a poster I believe in an attempt to shut this thread down. I have stuck to things I have knowledge of.
To those who question my bonafides, that's up to you whether you believe me or not. There's a few posters on here who can verify everything I've said above. I'm many things but I'm not a liar, nor am I economical with the truth a la Mr. Tubridy and Mr. Kelly.
I've been talking about this stuff for years. This is not some attempt at boasting but at a cursory glance, I have been by far the most thanked poster in this thread alone (several posts with 20+ thanks, one post on page 2 touching 50)......so I can only gather form that that some people agree with my thoughts on this subject and the parties involved. I've obviously struck a chord and with a much wider audience than the lonely confines of the Radio Thread - I commented in this thread often I would be the only person posting on the Tubridy Thread.
I'm not surprised he'd been knocked off his perch given everything I know - I just am surprised that it's greed that has been his downfall. It just seems very "uncouth". I would have thought given his background, education, and life of entitlement and privilege he would have been above something as grubby and dirty as greed.
Finally, to those of you who continue to call me unhinged, a c*nt, a stalker, a psycho, unemployed, obsessed, depressed, lonely, insane, mentally ill, sensitive, jealous, bitter....and all the various other things I've been called over the years - let's for arguments say I am all of those and more. Let's say I'm the devil himself. It doesn't change the fact that I've been right on these people; and for so long, no matter how much you try to deflect, troll, obfuscate, attempt muddy the waters, waffle, engage in whataboutery, and dole out the personal abuse - how could i forget that one?
Goodnight everyone.

P.S. Again, if you reply to this - and you know who you are - I can't see it. I'm not afraid of you. I never was.
