Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Where did he lie? Well when he said in numerous interviews that he took a pay cut. If that's not a lie, what is it? Nobody who works on his radio show wants to work with him as they all took pay cuts whilst he said he did when he never did.
Sorry what part of getting 75k a year through a third party and hardly providing them any service while your employer credits that company with the same amount and gives another credit note to facilitate the process is not collusion. What part of seeing your wages published and it's short by 75k and you stay mum. And it not like you did not know about it as the deal fell apart after a year and the employer has underwritten the amount. Are you saying they Tubridy did not read his own contract terms.
That is colluding to keep information from the board of the company.
In any private company he be sacked and left go to court to try to enforce the contract.
Did Tubridy read the terms of his contract before signing I be absolutely shocked if he did not. Did he not ask what can the 75k not be paid to me directly. This was not a once off. Previous to this there was 20-50 k payments to keep his pay below 500k. Add to that he was supposed to take a 15% iay cut three years ago and in reality by use of the barter system got a pay rise.
That is collusion
As a senior employee you are expected to do nothing that will bring your employer into disrepute. He colluded to bring the RTE brand into disrepute.
That is a sacking offence in private industry
Do you think it's legal to get paid via another jurisdiction that he has no working or personal ties to?
He is not an actor or footballer getting paid over the odds by Hollywood or an oligarch.
These are public funds effectively being misapprpriated.
He is paid to commentate on current affairs, to understand the public mood and to do so from a position of respect...
That is completely shot to bits - that he didnt he needed to correct the incorrect public figure?
That he went along with the RTE lies about pay cuts while pocketing these sums under the counter?
He has zero credibility commentating on current affairs after this.
He lied by omission.
You dont have to do something illegal to destroy a public facing career.
He was making a virtue out of him taking pay cuts...
"I've taken a pay cut before, I took over 30pc the last time and they've asked for more, which would bring it up to about 45pc or thereabouts since I took 'The Late Late Show'," he said. And when it comes to this sort of issue that's not something I've been found wanting in, and that continues to be the case."
while receiving hidden payments which lessoned those cuts by a third.
Very well put.
As shown above his credibility is shot. He has no chance of redemption.
Yep, it's Tub's obligation to know what's in his contract. But even if he knew the contract off by heart, it doesn't change the fact that it was RTE's obligation to report his salary correctly. That wasn't Tub's obligation.
I'd say most of the old journalists and presenters are on the gravy train and that's why they don't want to retire. Again, not illegal.
What going to happen to all those hoping to build up a profile on Newstalk before escaping to the big bucks on RTE with a contract negotiated by NK management back to plan B to become a political advisor?
That’s the issue though. The money wasn’t paid to his company by RTE.
It was paid by RTE to a UK agency, which took a huge slice off the top and then passed on what was left to his company.
It smells off.
It may also be RTE laying part of NK agent fees for Tubridy. Normally there is a fee paid by the Star to the agent. It's why agents generally negotiate 3 years or so contracts. They then take a few if about 15%. Again it would be another way to keep Tubridy wages below 500k which seems to be the complete purpose of the excerise
Yes, it probably is. Depends how his company is set up.
All this he did nothing illegal chat is a total red herring.
If the board decide he has no future in RTE, as I suspect they will, they can drop him like a stone without any of the worries and responsibilities of employment law.
Sure, arrangements between RTE and Tuttle will be subject to contract law. And in the unlikely event the directors cannot find anything in the small print to claim breach of contract they still have option to call his bluff.
This is all about court of public opinion now, not the court of law.
The directors of RTE might, with some justification, feel that kicking Tubridy to the kerb is the right call for them regarding public opinion.
At which stage it will be up to Tubs to play his cards, if he feels that it is in his best interests to take it to the courts, then presumably he'll do so. I doubt he'll misread the room quite so spectacularly again though.
And bear in mind, whatever is left of his contract is only for his radio show. He's already walked away voluntarily from his LLS contractual commitments, thereby freeing RTE from theirs. Presumably the radio side of it is the smaller beer.
Agreed, he has zero credibility now. Morally he probably should have spoken up. But he was under no obligation to do so.
What he is paid to do is immaterial to the issue. The issue is that RTE didn't report the correct figure.
Right. So he did take a pay cut.
I don't disagree that it smells a bit off, but it isn't woefully unusual for money to be moved around like that.
There is no way Tubs will get back on the radio. No team will work with him and his listenership would drop off a cliff. I get the sense many other presenters are delighted he got exposed.
Since he left the LLS, his wage won't be as high as he is only doing radio work now.
They didn't take a cut - they charged their commission on top
Often wondered about Pat. He has a production company as well that makes over a million in profit,so maybe he does it to keep sharp,or genuinely enjoys it.
Not complaining anyway, he'll be a loss to the nation when he does hang up the spurs.
I knew a contractor working in Ireland for a Jersey (IIRC) based employment agency - so no illegality there
Immaterial to what issue exactly?
One issue is he didnt correct the figure. Isnt that what his own statement said?
And he continued to collude in the deception to his financial advantage.
His role is relevant.
A TV chef or a footballer or actor might be able to play dumb and try to put all the blame on RTE and agent.
He has no credibility in his role to analyse current affairs or the state of the nation when he didnt correct the record given the publication by RTE of presenter salaries is a current affairs story.
Either he is incompetent in that role or a liar or both.
Not a look anyone wants to see on TV or radio discussing public affairs.
He is toxic.
I don't think the Directors of RTE can kick Tubridy to the kerb as they are in a sport of bother themselves. RTE are the main culprits here. It was their obligation to report RT's salary correctly.
I reckon the only way they can kick him to the kerb is to give him a financial cushion to land on to soften the blow.
Tomayto Tomahto - call it what you like. The agency took a big chunk of RTE's money, about 1/3rd I think, and Tubridy got what was left.
What value did they add for that third?
Yes, how will the nation survive not having Pat complaining about cyclists weekly, on his car company sponsored show?
off-topic, Pat Kenny is a good presenter and intelligent but his stuck-in-the-1980s union and Hse bashing and similar is tiresome and at this point, he should move off the stage it's not the same Ireland anymore.
No.
It is under the table/off the books or however you want to describe it because THE BOARD WERE NOT AWARE OF IT.
It appears as if Dee Forbes (or someone else in RTE) made a side deal(s) with Tubs/Tubs Agent that was not board-approved. She/They do not have the authority to do that.
And the fact that as you say "he's a preachy fcuk is immaterial" is laughable. It's not. He's built his whole "brand" on being #kind, open, honest, approachable, one of us etc. etc. He's not. He's as greedy and grubby and underhand as Haughey or Ahern, and he's been caught out.
That's a mighty expensive service.
Tomayto Tomahto - it cost an extra 80k to try and hide the transaction, could have been paid direct to NKM but then it would have been on the books...
The directors are in a spot of bother precisely because of Tubridy's contract.
RTE publish his salary publicly with a statement saying it is the directors responsibility to ensure accurate reporting. The oublished figures were inaccurate because of an arrangement deliberately designed to publicly conceal the true figure from the board.
They have to act, and they will kick both sides to the kerb. Tubs and whoever in RTE was behind the concealment.
I don't think they'll have to pay anybody off.
No doubt Tubs will have the neck to ask for a pay off, but if they tell him to sling his hook and sue them for it, what can he do?
I was in london on business last week should i make a donation to hmrc?
