Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Sunday Times has this:
"RTE told Ryan Tubridy’s agent to send a British media company invoices, labelled as “consultancy services”, which the broadcaster used for €150,000 in top-up salary payments to its star presenter.
Dee Forbes, RTE’s director-general, discussed the payments with Tubridy’s agent, Noel Kelly, days before an arrangement was put in place to route money from the state-funded public broadcaster to the presenter."
The Sunday Business Post reported that there was an emergency board meeting in RTE after the meeting with Minister Catherine Martin and Tubridy's continued employment was discussed.
"The Business Post understands that the organisation is questioning if presenter Ryan Tubridy can be on the air again because he can’t hold politicians to account."
The Sindo front page has a story about a whistleblower claiming that there was around 50 million in kickbacks to ad agencies.
Tubridy, it seems, is causing massive problems for RTE and a lot of people are talking to the media.
Regards...jmcc
Problem with Tubridy is to a lot of people he’s not altogether very likeable… he’s not shít at his job(s) but he’s certainly in the very fûcking average category. That’s a problem when you are on the take of serious payments of undeclared taxpayers money.
the fallout :
a suspended director general.
sponsors quitting. That shortfall has to be bridged from other sources. That money was for RTÉ not the LLS.
His employment / contract with RTÉ has to be questioned for his radio gig. His rep while not in tatters it’s not far off, it has taken a good hiding here.
he can’t appear on his radio show now moralising about any particular grievance or social, current affairs issues… so, really is there a place for Ryan on and in RTÉ ? Can you play devils advocate whilst being a bit of a divil yourself ?
I'm inclined to think no. I’m inclined to think his time at RTÉ should be ended.
Tubridy is finished on RTE, if not massive backlash with licence fee not been paid.
Agree ... Tubridy is a silly and cringy interviewer ... the LLS disimproved on his watch ... he was bad at all categories and was the reality/Luv island era host .... if you were not into reality stuff or Alison Spittle style comedy you had no business tuning in to Tubbers! ... to me Tubbers only catered for the realty TV audience and did not give a toss about anyone else .... Pat Kenny and Gaybo tried their best to broaden the show to all audiences but Tubbers didn't .... and it showed ... worst presenter of the LLS yet ...
Before Brendan O'Conner's Saturday night show was axed it was beating the Late Late Show in the ratings. Ryan Tubridy's stint at 2fm as Gerry Ryan's replacement was an absolute disaster. Admittedly it was a difficult job to take on, but he is supposedly RTE's biggest star - he lost 40% of Gerry ryan's listeners. Yet RTE leaves him there for nearly 5 years. Meanwhile his replacement on RTE 1, john Murray, did just fine. Getting listener figures not a whole lot different then what Tubridy is getting now. Which begs the question - why the f have RTE been giving this guy so much money? I don't get it.
The thing is the published figures are obscene as well ... this guy has 2 and a quarters hours a week TV time and 5 hours a week on the radio .... has a full team researching his shows .... only has to turn up an hour before and has little to prepare when the guests are the same old same old over and over .... no way does he deserve anything like he gets .... if he was in an ordinary job he could expect 20 per hour by 7 which would give him 140 per week ... give him 150 to be generous .... that is about all he is worth ...
Looking at the media coverage, RTE will be very lucky if there's an RTE after these investigations.
Often wondered what the attraction was. The Late Show is a big cash cow and he was getting the numbers, somehow,so maybe they just didn't want to rock the boat with a new presenter.
RTE seem to have a thing for mediocrity, just look at Radio1. 2FM is a big pile of drivel.Absolutely no new talent coming through on TV. if you're under sixty there's nothing there for you.
Place must be like the HSE in regard to ingrained methods, unions and resistance to change.
Extinction level event for RTE?
You raise a very, very interesting point here. Legally, RTE should be able to end the arrangement very swiftly and easily as he is a contractor. They should also not being paying him for last Friday and next week as they do not require his services.
On the other hand, he may well argue that he is a de facto employee and may attempt to go after them legally, in the same way the Fair City actors have done, if he is dismissed.
But, but, where will all those freebies go if Ryan leaves??
he may well argue that he is a de facto employee
That would really be taking the p*ss!
Once the dust settles, there will be a rebranding exercise. remember AnCO, then FÁS which transmogrified to SOLAS.
Hardly comes as a surprise, woeful state broadcaster in gross mismanagement shocker.
What a scumbag
So the Barter Company received 80,000 in "fees".
Man this is so dodgy.
Might also impact his tax status
Don't think it will be rebranded, was there any other state broadcaster renamed, political/country renaming situations aside?
Who.the.****.are these people.
Rotten to the core.
That arrangement looks a lot like money laundering.
If this is a can of worms (which it looks like it is) it will be interesting to see if other state bodies or gov depts get somehow dragged into it. Story in the Indo today about Robert Watt having "severe reservations" about the Dept of Health's sponsorship of Operation Transformation. That was "only" 283k per year but I wonder how much the Dept/HSE paid for Covid ads during the pandemic, was there a cosy relationship, was there any creative accounting on either side.
So the "British Media Company" is the "Barter Company" presumably?
Why did they cream off 80,000 for half a dozen transactions?
Half a dozen transactions we know about.
If you are doing something dodgy you are going to charge an extra wedge for it.
It will be interesting to see who owns that company or who might work in it.
This is like the FAI scandal on steroids. Tubridys rumoured political ambitions are surely now put to bed.
If he tries that then RTE are on the hook for a small fortune in Employers PRSI payments, and then his Tuttle Productions company should be seriously reviewed by Revenue and all expenses claimed over the past decade plus be added back and PAYE charged on his income. It would cost both RT and RTE a fortune.
Yes! BiBi Netanyahu did it in Israel in 2017!
it can and should be done.
The Fair City actors believe that it's worthwhile. And if Ryan gets the bullet, which I suspect he will, then he will have nothing to lose.
Bunch of pr!cks. They are delighted to be independent contractors when it suits them for tax purposes, and then when their contract is cut by RTE they suddenly decide they want to be employees with job security.
They can't have it both ways.
Sounds like the tracker mortgage whingers, not a peep out of them when times were good and they paid p!ss all mortgage interest but now that rates are rising they're playing the poor mouth and complaining about the cost. Idiots.
He had political ambitions?? Not a hope. He made the LLS unwatchable for most people.
No doubt he was considering politics.
He is the nephew of former MEP Niall Andrews and former government minister David Andrews. He is the grandson of TD Sean Tubridy, the cousin of FF TDs Barry Andrews and Chris Andrews and was himself a member of gra Fianna Fáil
