Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Buddy,
Every time you post on this thread it's a "Gotcha" moment.
But there was no dishonest declaration of earnings, right?
Rubbish. He went years without bothering to correct what was in the public domain about his wages.
Only when he was CAUGHT did he apologise and admit there was a mistake.
He's as guilty as RTE.
Yeah but if you did that you'd undermine loyalty to the brand of people who mainly watch RTE for Fair City, Ireland's Fittest Family etc. and reinforce public resentment of the licence fee (or whatever is going to replace it). You might pay a few bob for the kind of highbrow service you are advocating but a lot more would only do so under threat of fine/imprisonment...
Well RT went along with the idea he was receiving a paycut. He didn't query the extra 345K. Nothing honest about that.
You still don't understand the basic fundamental that RTE ,NOT Turbidy made an inaccurate disclosure.
There was no gross misconduct by Turbidy and to suggest shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the meaning of the term and the mechanics behind the transactions.
It's very possible that others had similar arrangements, will the same vitriol be shown ?
The 'barter ' arrangements were/are common place and I would suggest not just in RTE.
Are you sure about that? I don't think we have seen anything that proves that.

Is there any evidence that there wasn’t honest declarations of earnings in this episode?
Just reading over the Companies Act 2014, its not looking good for RTE.
The RTE Board were signing off on inaccurate accounts for years.
It would be great if this was a watershed moment, not just for RTE but as a nation in general where being on the take, side deal, nods and winks and all forms of financial corruption were totally outlawed. Probably a dreamers utopia but how and ever. Honest declarations of earnings and wealth should be the norm in society.
Presenters who are not staff should have their salary directly linked to the advertising revenue they bring in and they would have to do this without turning in to Newstalk, with no sensationalism, no click bate type presentations.
This is utter nonsense, he had a contractual arrangement, the only person who you could even argue brought RTE into disrepute was whoever agreed it. Some of the stuff posted here is mad.
I'd love a "balancing" exercise which, after tax, would still easily clear my mortgage
I'd say plenty knew, Dee Forbes might have agreed to take the blame as she was leaving anyway, or was made a scapegoat as she can't spill the beans without hanging herself further.
Well, that guy has a habit of making grandiose statements then nothing. So large saltmine required.
But yes, the 63 year old money sucker that is RTE should be reconstituted into an actual PUBLIC service broadcaster, cut out the soaps/reality/canteen chatshows/house voyuer entertainment stuff (There's already a four channel commercial TV station and innumerable music radio conglomerates/stations) and concentrate on news /current affairs/docus/culture/national sports - news etc with actual journalism not activist journalism and no bloody govt agendas, they should be dissecting and debating govt agendas not promoting them as if they were commandments from on high and infallible.
I'd pay a few bob for that. Make it the paragon of the Fourth Estate and reinstall trust and confidence of the population in that Estate.
Wishful thinking though.
I don't think RTE is a market though. There's a large cohort of Noel Kelly clients. When presenters are lifers there is no market.
Yes there's the argument if someone pays you too much it's their problem. But RT is a major public figure who presents a hoier than thou image. He spoke about wanting to do more for poverty in Ireland yet accepted €345,000 euros extra while playing along with the RTE spiel he took a pay cut. He's complicit in my book.
No chance. If there is an investigation by RTE or others he won't be let near his desk or email account.
I'd say RTE are going through his email account as we speak, and he may be fired based on what they find. He'll certainly be suspended but as with the LLS he'll be allowed resign before he's pushed.
I’ve been at it longer than most, but yes, there absolutely has been an organized underhand campaign by a group of posters attempting to silence anyone who dares to say anything critical of not just Tubridy, but curiously anyone in the NK stable.
They know who they are. Some of them have gone to ground with this news, some however are still posting defending the indefensible on this very thread.
It’s “bonkers” as Tubs would say.
I’m saying if there is such a clause.
And no, it’s not a stretch. This is the biggest story in the news at the moment. It is absolutely bring the company into disrepute. That it seems that only a handful of people knew about it - one of whom is currently suspended - doesn’t change the fact that this has brought RTÉ into disrepute.
It's a market, if his opinion of his own talents are inflated, then he should lose his job. Honestly the days of loyalty or whatever are long gone. I personally go out every few years to see where I can earn more money, there's nothing morally wrong with it. He didn't force anyone to pay him.
No really sure why you're having a go at ButtersSuki. He has been honest and was right in trying to expose Tubridy. I've also been very critical of Tubridy’s behaviour, mainly posting on the radio thread (which is closed at the moment). I'm thinking of the likes of JimmyNokia, Poly, JonathanAnon, StevenToast and others who have been vociferous in their criticism of him. Many received warnings and threadbans. The last couple of days have been liberating and they've been vindicated. Seems like there was an underhanded campaign at work.
Hard to make those 'charges' (for want of a better word) stick when this arrangement was agreed contractually.
One can only hope that there is some general review or termination clause in his contracts.
It would only be if he didnt fulfil the extra duties he was paid for maybe? Bit of a stretch to say he brought RTE into disrepute given they were in on it.
It all comes back to a few fundamental truths.
A sense of entitlement.
An inflated ego where people think they're better at their job than they are, better than ordinary people. They call me the Toyman, a vanity last Late Late. Every show in covid began with a patronising address to the nation. Tubridy indulged his fantasy that he was presidential or a statesman he could spout rhetoric and be RFK or JFK for 5 min speeches every week.
Greed and something common to all egotists a feeling they won't be caught and are a little bit above the law. Lance Armstrong etc.
Yes but you’d have to assume/hope there’s a cause re. Gross Misconduct or bringing the organisation into disrepute etc. which would allow them to terminate the contract immediately and with no pay out.
But then again this is RTÉ so probably not.
A master at PR? Lol. His first statement was so bad he had to come back today and attempt to redo it. Terry Prone (who I have no fondness for - to put it mildly) said he made a huge error in his statement and that it came too quickly, was tired, accepted no blame, and left many questions unanswered. She said the same about NK’s.
His second statement has also failed and leaves more questions to be answered.
Master of PR my h*le.
Also Tubs new they they publish his wages every 2 years, he'd be advise that they were going to do it, IMO RTÉ really tippy toe around the release of those figures, so much so that they don't always publish the on time.
Really kicking off now.
PAC inviting them back again after they promised salary cuts to them on "a number of occasions over the last 2-3 years".
Yeah I read it, same stuff from Dee Forbes,
"I made hard decision on cuts ... but I made sure that the top people got their money."
